Hello! Just a quick message to clarify a point that keeps coming up! :) I guess when I recorded this reaction I wasn't really thinking about people that were actually into metal as my audience (bit stupid of me really haha!) so my comment of the growl/scream not being "as loud as you'd think it is" is kind of aimed at people who've never heard metal. To a new listener, it sounds insane, like a lions roar or something, so I was trying to explain it in a way that made more sense to a casual watcher. I'm aware that some metal screams are very loud, and some not loud at all (and that can differ from singer to singer, i've been told tatianna has a pretty loud scream live, which i'm keen to hear!) I'd also like to say how enjoyable it's been reading (most of) your comments on this video! You're all hugely knowlegable and keen to give me insights here and there, it's made me really want to dive deeper into the genre and broaden my horizons a little bit. I used to listen to some metal in my teens, but fell off the wagon :( Anyway, thanks again for watching, and look forward to carrying on the conversation!
You're dead wrong. No effect made her growls and screams much louder. Try listening more to her stage/live performances, she's way better than most metal screamers, particularly men.
While the bulk of your audience may not be metalheads, typically when we see reactions to metal bands, especially this one and this song in particular, we come en masse because we all know that NO ONE expects THAT sound to come from THAT body if they're not familiar with Jinjer. We come for the reaction and to answer any questions the Reactor may (will) have about whether it's actually her or not. Mostly we come for the faces made when she breaks it out first time. 😁😁 I don't miss the chance to see anyone react to this, especially vocal coaches.
Honestly it's just fun seeing how different people react to the switch. Didn't someone else on another video say "Jinjer face" is becoming a thing? But yeah, damn I've realistically listened to this song hundreds of times through reactions on top of actually listening to it in the shower etc. It's still not old.
Watch either the new video of Perennial at Wacken, or the concert video Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live) as a follow-up. The latter is where Tatiana really shows of what she can do with her growls (spoiler: she goes lower haha). Perennial is a great all around song and the video from Wacken is beautiful.
@@juyifan7933 The belting in the performance of I Speak Astronomy at Resurrection Fest is epic - starts at the 14-minute mark in the full set performance video.
Yes, live at Wacken, from few days ago...I'm interested in what you'll think of her cleans there. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/bxi3i9wzQBk/видео.html

When I take the doggies for a long walk in the dunes, I listen to it over and over and secretly try and sing the clears while softly trying to get the feel of the growls in my body. (yes people might think I'm crazy, and they are bloody right!!! Hahaha)
It was double layered. It was a live session but the bassist said they added to the song so it could be turned into a music video. Her chorus has a double scream as well.
There are a lot of videos of her singing live. She has got a lot of control over her voice. She can 'switch' between different technics quite effortlessly (it seemed).
Man I'm convinced that if you include all of the reaction channels and the people that watch them, this video is the most watched video on RUclips. Prove me wrong.
Mic ain't doin the work bro. If her mic cuts out during a vocal fry / scream...you can still hear her over the band..just like George Fisher of Cannibal Corpse. Believe it. Saw and heard it happen live with both bands. Can't wait to see Jinjer again in October
his point is valid if you listen to the nuance and specific words he used... he said the mic does much of the work - spoiler - it always does. Why the heck you think we have sound systems man? not saying she can't project, but everyone needs a mic. maybe you heard them over the band in the front pit, but the back of an arena? no way my dude.
i agree. they did some doubling and tripling as a substitute for her doing mostly closed placement on her consonants both clean and fry scream. seems the parts they augmented were her mix voice plus closed sounds for 3 notes at a time..

They have confirmed the vocal in this video was doubled or overdubbed in post, but she also does this voice in concert. Those videos are all over RUclips to confirm.
You need to watch her actually live. It's totally her. she can definitely do this even better than this on stage. she does it better than almost anyone. And the band is ridiculously talented. This song is always the first song people say to watch and I guess that's a good thing because it draws you in and you don't believe it and maybe that's why. But Tatiana is for real. Check out Perennial Live at Waken 2019. She goes from a very deep growl to clean singing in a split second right in front of a close up camera. It's all her doing the work, not the mic.
The most common reaction people do after this is Jinjer's live stage performance of "Who Is Gonna Be The One". There are fewer clean vocals in it but you can see what she's like with less post production. It's really amazing.

It’s called false chord screaming and it utilizes the vestibular fold rather than the vocal chords. It actually has a pretty good volume to it and doesn’t totally rely on amplification from the mic. She’s a master at it with amazing control. She also sometimes uses fry screams for the higher screams, which does use the vocal chords, but at a healthy lower volume balancing chord compression with a controlled release of less air.
Tee Totally agree! I called it constriction, which is the term I use for what you describe in your comment (which is incredibly well written btw!) I’ve referenced what I mean by that in previous videos, but probably should have reiterated in this video for clarity. I also agree it’ll have a decent volume, just that it won’t be *AS* loud as it may be perceived by some. I saw an interview where they were asked what effects she uses, and they said only a delay when they are live. That's the "two voices" you were talking about.
What I like to see in a good Jinjer-Pisces reaction. 1. Startlement. I mean, come on, we LOVE to see people startled by it. 2. Either reactors who DON’T know what is going on, but appreciate the music anyway, OR someone who does know what is going on, and respects Tati’s talent and the work she puts in. Nicely done.
I recommend live performances to see the true power of her vocals without any polishing or double ups. Who is Gonna be the one live, or maybe the more recent Perennial in Wacken 2019.
My favorite track of Jinjer is "Teacher, Teacher". It shows much more of her and her band members brilliance. So many different sides to their art. Their songs are so diverse and always different.
In an interview afterwards, they said they went back in and did some overdubs. I noticed some doubling much later on the word "underworld", and was hoping that they had just split her signal and processed the parts differently with EQ and delays live. So I guess they should have called it "Studio Session" instead. It's pretty good how the lyrics, which concern the dual nature of the Pisces sign, and her wanting love but also being reluctant due to past hurts, is reflected by the 2 voices.
It says in the description vocal layering was added in post production but check out a "real" live performance she sounds the same. In the newer live performances she has a backing track in some parts but u can tell she is extremely talented
Great reaction. As others have said, you should listen to Jinjer's live performance of "Perennial". You'll be blown away by both her vocals and stage presence.
Yeah, she definitely has a vocal effect on her voice during those few parts. She sounds great doing dry vocals in the verses as well! Tatiana is a beast! I Speak Astronomy is great too!
It certainly is not on such a low volume as you say/think it is. That's only the case when people don't actually have their technique right. If you know how to make that sound and then project it, the way you would project when belting, it's pretty loud. There's certainly some sort done. They should t really have called it 'live', but hey, it's still great, right? Check out some live stuff. You'll see that it's all her.
Wow really great and amazing analysis. You got so many things right especially about her volume. I’ve been a fan of theirs for very long and I’ve done vocal fry screaming for a while and you were very right about the volume and I think it was a great catch when you talked about the double layer. Great and amazing reaction.
With fry screams your vocal folds remain closed, letting out air without producing a clear singing note. like a vocal fry with more pressure from the diaphragm, making the soft pallate and areas around vibrate, so keep throat and pallate relaxed, push with diaphragm and keep vocal folds closed. you need some pretty strong compression muscles to project it loud and even keep it for a few seconds. False chords are the same thing, but with vocal folds completely open the entire time. When done correctly you don't feel anything in the throat, but you feel a rumble in your soft pallate. Often get phlegm as well. So again, really good fry screamers can get it loud enough to sing along in a car cause they've worked hard on their vocal fold muscles. Newer and weaker vocalists will have to keep the volume low in order to maintain the scream.
As far as Jinjer tracks I would say Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live), Perennial, and I Speak Astronomy are good songs to show Tatiana's vocals as well as the bands talent. Also, if you can find them watch the live videos from concerts.
One of the best descriptions of a vocal fry “scream” without being able to produce said scream; and still explained it in layman’s terms so that someone who had ever heard of this before could understand.
Most of the screams in this are also slightly doubled In post, but don’t get it twisted, her screams are by no means quiet or soft, she is quite capable of using that style of vocal with AMPLE power
i dabble in screaming vocals, i can tell you that yes the mic might have a little more gain, BUT screams as loud (or louder) as clean singing! her vocals are legit :)
i loved how your face lit up every time it went into the growling. Also, i like that you straight away realized that all the post production was only in gain/volume and the doubling of vocals, but no distortion etc.
I'd love to see you listen to another of their songs that is a true live recording. The live is just as impressive. Please check out Perenial Live at Waken.
She certainly can do it because I can do it easily too. I found that voice in me by accident, had fun with it, so with time it improved a lot. It's great to scare people and it doesn't hurt to switch. Just different muscles. You can even use both at the same time as we can hear in this song.
As others have pointed out, Perennial (live) and Who is Gonna Be the One? (live) are great ways to see her versatility. "Teacher Teacher" is also a wonderful song by Jinjer.
It's no secret that there are vocal tracks layered in some parts, it's all explained in the description of the original video. They did it to make this new version of the song sound as close as possible to the original album version. However, those 2nd voices you heard were not created by any digital effect, they were all sang by Tatiana in the studio. I hope this helped clearing some of your "doubts". : ) Anyway, like 42.
Check their live videos. She has a low register scream where she’s close to the mic and a belted scream where she’s backed off the mic. Both sound amazing and neither seem to take a toll on her voice.
You are absolutely right about the effects going on like the doubling. Its in the screams as well, there is a lower and a higher scream at the same time. Does it matter? Not really, a lot of bands do it. And she gets close to this performance live.
Neptune's child shivering inside... at minute 8:45 have a second whisper voice background ;-) ..and I think he reinforces his screams at the end of stanza also with a second voice... "Another runs for death"
Sam Carter of Architects has intense projection and a very unique vocal style. Would be great to see a review and reaction of Architects // Royal Beggars (LIVE)
It's good, that you had the balls to mention the postproduction. In other Reaction videos there was just 'No, that's not her' OR 'Yes, that's absolutely her' (in the comments too). I think, she as a performer and her Voice as her Instrument are extraordinary and for me it's O.K. to underline the greatness oft all this in the postproduction.
Tatiana shared in an interview that the only effects used for her vocals are reverb and a "slight" delay. That might be why they sound dubbed. Also, in that very same interview, she said that "extreme" vocals (i.e. growling and screaming) requires a lot of training, which she said she has been doing for many, many years. Therefore, she advised others to not do it without the proper training. Furthermore, she is a Pisces (March 15). As I am also a Pisces, I understand her message. Pisces is very dichotomous sign. "One being brings life. The other runs for death". Therefore, the message should also be conveyed dichotomously. Good analysis!
I'm 99% sure that you're right about the volume of her screams, because I believe she's doing fry scream vocals (although still very well projected and probably much louder than what mine sound irl and I'm a guy lol) which can be heard much better in their live videos, you can especially see the difference when compared to this song because this one has layered screams. Now with false cord screams, volume is whole 'nother story, those CAN be projected really loud, but I rarely heard this technique among female vocalists in metal (my guess is that smaller vocal folds allow girls to do better fry vocals so they prefer using those).
You need to react to them doing "Perennial" live at Wacken, dropped recently! Also "Teacher Teacher" is another great song by them! Anyway keep at it man, Respect from 0121! 🤘🏼
Tatiana smokes, drinks, doesn’t warm up, never got trained. It’s all a natural talent to achieve the greatest vocal fry on the planet. Her Glottal folds are vibrating beyond belief. She has the voice of a thousand warriors and equally mind blowing live. There is compression, delay, reverb, dual layer or time shift and a whisper track occasionally too. Possibly micro shift as well. All minor effects.. the majority is all her. God love her🤘
You sir are correct about the double up on the voice. Even in her live concerts there is a back track she does herself that goes with the song. I know I will get some haters because they think it is all her but those of us that really know how music is produced hear this. Before someone says anything please go listen to the song closely many bands do this. The volume does not need to be loud to produce that sound either. It is a technic that is learned just like any other like classical or opera. She is a very gifted vocalist which is obvious. I love watching her live videos.
You are correct. According to someone that has mixed their live show, she is very dynamic on the mic and does need a fair degree of compression live. But that's pretty normal for anyone that performs this technique with real control.
I'm glad I was talking a wee bit of sense then! It's really not my forte, but I've done a lot of live performance in my time, and worked with engineers in an out of a studio, so that was where my mind went. I also do mic technique in my coaching sessions, and if someone who sang metal came to me, this is what I would suggest for them to sing with stamina in mind :)
Sam Scott-Thorne: Session Singer & Vocal Coach in my own (limited) experience, this kind of vocal is as much of a knack as a technique. And part of it is finding the pitch at which you can comfortably generate all the distortion. For instance: I can’t sound like Corey Taylor, it’s too high for me. Tatiana is unusual in how guttural she can actually go.

Oh boi, we got another!
That was probably the best analysis of this version of this track I've seen.
You have to watch Nightwish man, just do it. The fans are waiting...
Matthew MacWilliams I agree. I love the technical view on floors voice. Go for it. Ghost Love score live at wackin.
Best reaction I’ve seen. You pointed things out I haven’t heard before. Like the layering. And she wasn’t projecting much volume. Well done
Please react to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Wacken 2013)
Yeah, she definitely has a vocal effect on her voice during those few parts. She sounds great doing dry vocals in the verses as well! Tatiana is a beast! I Speak Astronomy is great too!
I Love watching reactions to this song! I just can't get enough of them!!! 😂
After this, you need to check out Devin Townsend - Deadhead live at Royal Albert Hall.. you'll have a blast!
I really liked your reaction. Great job. Keep giving your honesty! It is priceless in this day and age.
You'll see that it's all her.
also he should watch devon townsend live.
Yes. Deadhead at the Royal Albert Hall!
Honestly not really Using low screams are like talking Voice or a little louder usually maids or highs are the loudest
It's called "live session" because that's what it was. Smh. The layering was done post production
@@christianhernandez8575 if she was using vocal fry I'd agree, but she's making use of false. You have to project to get that sound
I never get tired of watching reactions to that video. Never!
They did lay some extra vocal tracks as they arrived at the studio a little early.
Anyway, like 42.
Just one more reaction video before bed....crap its 4am!
At 3:13 you can see him go through all 5 stages of grief
Considering Tatiana been doing same for over 13 years now I'm sure her voice is good n solid.
Check their live videos. She has a low register scream where she’s close to the mic and a belted scream where she’s backed off the mic. Both sound amazing and neither seem to take a toll on her voice.
read the description of the song :P Max Morton has mixed/mastered the song so that's why it has some effects and doubling
You are absolutely right about the effects going on like the doubling. Its in the screams as well, there is a lower and a higher scream at the same time. Does it matter? Not really, a lot of bands do it. And she gets close to this performance live.
One of my favourite things to do in downtime is watching that first reaction to the scream.... and at 3.15... there's the WTAF just happened.
Yes, the recorded it live to add the layering.
In one of the many articles that I have read about Jinjer and Tatiana, it was mentioned that she has/is working with Melissa Cross as her vocal coach.
Mary Zimmer is also a Vocal Metal scream teacher. Her RUclips is called VoiceHacks
Jinjer does use multi tracking; for the originators of that, check out Les Paul & Mary Ford, they pioneered the technique.
Another great Jinjer song that shows her range better is teacher teacher. It's live concert footage from 3 concerts over album audio
If I closed my eyes, I would swear this was Mrs. Doubtfire reacting to Jinjer. “Oh dear....”
Hahahaha amazing! I might get the outfit for next time and change my intro to "HELLLOOOOOOOOOOO DEARS"
I know you clarified some points, but she's doing this life too. I saw Jinjer 5 times now, she can do it. Definitely.
You should Check out "Teacher Teacher" thats another good one that shows some range.
It was a live session like she said but the band did release a statement saying after they did it the put the double voices in it and everything.
Have never heard her do harmony's like this in any other song. They are layered throughout the song. That or they do an echo with a pitch alteration.
Love watching reactions to both Jinjer - Pisces and Devin Townsend - Kingdom. Pretty much gets the same reactions every time. Great fun
I literally get chills every time the heavy part kicks in for the first time.
Edit: and the end part...
It's not the microphone Bro :)
You can tell by watching some of their live performances
The first time I watched this performance I was in utter shock. 😳 She did a great job though. Thank you Sam. 👏🏼👏🏼💗🌺
Thank you Tanya! Good to hear from you! :)
Another Following. Been fan since 2012 seen them 2x can't wait for Oct 2 cuz they sure have change a lot
