I have played Ultra Moon, and I liked it a lot. It's a shame that you don't feel the same way, but I can understand why.
For someone who has been playing Pokemon games since Gen 1, Team Rainbow Rocket and Episode RR is very enjoyable and nostalgic, which makes it a great piece of post-game content in my opinion. Mantine Surf is a ton of fun too, which makes earning BP for items and the move tutors enjoyable instead of ridiculously grindy like it was in past games. The soundtrack is fantastic, and I think that Ultra Necrozma's battle theme is one of the best songs in the entire franchise. I also appreciate the higher level of difficulty overall when compared to the other games in the core series.

@@tejas124 I'm glad you liked Totem battles. They might not have been perfect, but at the very least they were a nice change of pace from type-themed Gym Battles. Pokemon needs more unique boss fights like Ultra Necrozma, that require actual strategy to beat (like other RPG's such as Final Fantasy have). Spamming a Water-type move against a Rock-type Gym isn't interesting or fun in the slightest.

AND a dimension where they actually succeeded in catching their respective legendary because either the main hero's in those alternate dimensions either didn't exist(they weren't born)or... they just failed to beat their villain and they won. . . . and THAT.... was TH"E" most single handedly bad ass, hardcore plot twist to end all possible plot twists(for a Pokemon game that is..).... What's so bad about the gym battles? That's how it is in the anime and the games are pretty much based on the anime just like red and blue are the counter parts of Ash and Gary , why change something that ain't broke? And has made you millions of dollars over the last 20 plus years?

@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 okay, 1. games came first anime was an afterthought. And 2. it's so unbelivably stale. If you want to talk about the anime then there is so much more stuff aeound and between the gym battles and so much more stuff in the battles themselves. They have actual rules in the anime unlike the games. They can still do gym battles but they haven't changed since gen 1. They could have made the galar league so much more interesting with the idea of tournaments and such and instead of battling type specific gym leaders you could have gone through a bunch of different tournaments to qualify for the championship. It would have given players more attatchment to characters like marnie and bede who don't really get much time to shine in galar and made for a more unique experience to make the latest games shine a bit more.

I prefer gym battles over the trails they have in sun and moon the only thing about pokemon games that should change is once you get to the elite 4 they make you face off against a bunch of in game high level trainers that are also qualified to compete in the elite 4 pokemon league challenge and also add more regions to explore in the postgame like they did in soulsilver and also have returning trainers from past games like red, blue, gold and silver, mixed in with the postgame you got from black/white version 2

@@Marvel_vs_Capcom84 you should change it because it's stale as fuck. Yellow was released after the anime, the whole point of yellow was to capitalise on the success of the anime hence why you get pikachu and officer jenny is a character. Like I said, you don't need to change the general structure of gyms but you can change how they work and make them more complex. If you check out lockstin's stuff about is fanmade region his gym leaders all have themed teams instead of type based ones. Hell Raihan is the only gym leader with a themed team and he is way more interesting. Every major battle besides Raihan, leon and hop are all single type focused which means no real in depth strategy. "If it aint broke don't fix it" is redundant. It isn't that it's broke. I was able to beat it by using my Magnezone and boosting up all my stats with the roto stat enhancer thing(roto boost I think its called). . . even after just ONE of those that thing STILL hit pretty dang hard... so I kept heal stalling so as to get another chance to use another... got taken out by a fricking crit eventually(yea.. cuz even the LORD knew it Needed it... lol). . . . so I then had to play a BeAuTiFuL game of revive the Magnezone(giving it mouth to mouth... cpr, slapping it senseless the works.. was saying:GET UP DAMN IT! YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE!)while allowing that there Necrozma over there to brutally molest what remained of my team in the process. . . . . . . . . . . .
Eventually... I was able to get the Magnezone back out there and with enough boosts(like about three I think, AFTER heal stalling enough to get all the chances to boost up what I needed)to take it out with flash cannon. I THINK it was a two shot... cant really remember too well how this match went.. this happened years ago. .
But about You... with Primapes high attack and with punishment at Your disposal I can see how a one shot was in fact possible... though, am actually very perplexed as for HOW You were able to out speed the thing... it gets a plus one on ALL stats(I think.. especially in speed)and Necrozma ALREADY out speeds Primape at an equal footing... Primapes also Not very durable. . . so it hit You with a power gem and You lived on a slither(cuz that's about the ONLY attack it has that Primape resists)THEN You were able to take it out?(I also cant remember if Necrozma had any status moves it could have used in turn one)or were You just at a SUPER high level?

No need to invent a new team that has the same plot. As opposed to at least seeing some differences between Magma and Aqua and their environmental goals, Galactic trying to destroy the world rather than control it, Plasma having at least an interesting facade and playing politics to get power (but having N as a nice wild card), Flare felt... too safe. Too boring. Didn’t really care when I beat them. I was actually surprised and got a little more invested for Skull when I had to finish the fight against Guzma.

Personally, I love the Sun/Moon story more than the USUM story because it is the only main game that hasn't followed the standard set by gen 3 with the story blossoming into stopping some world ending event involving the boxart legendaries (I know there was the wormholes and ultra beasts attacking but that sit was handled by the island guardians and kahunas). Instead we have a story that is mainly focused on character growth with Lillie and Gladion learning to find their own strength instead of isolating themselves or running from their own fears. The characters of Sun and Moon feel human (minus our character who always has that blank, dead inside smile plastered to their face).
However, I do love the additions of USUM and wish some of those had made it into Sun and Moon instead of being in separate games. The Necrozma portion of the story would have been good postgame content with the UR Squad handling the quests for the capture of UBs. The extra Z-Crystals for Lycanroc, Mimikyu, etc. and last but not least, Mantine Surfing.

She used to be a good person, but events in her life turned her into a cold blooded psychopath with no empathy.
She lost her husband, she was infected by Nihilego's poison turning her into a shell of her former self. Just a husk with her worst attitudes and traits but exaggerated to the 100%.
She lost her morals with the twisted obsession, changing from looking for her lost husband to her new found fascination with those otherworldly creatures. Because that's what they both did before the incident.

But I think the main thing why I loved this game so much and making my second favorite generation is how the ultra recon squad helped you through out the story and Zossie is definitely my favorite recon squad member since she is adorable and reminds me of Mazzy from The Loud House (cause the design of her looked similar as Mazzy and the personality are similar) which is cool! I honestly feel like Ultra is where I kind of lost faith in the Pokemon brand. Splitting what is basically a third version into two games, with a worse story imo, an overall less focused setup and a lazy, nostalgia-pandering "catch all the legendaries!" postgame (especially after RR, that was at least a unique dungeon and pretty tough at that) which did not justify full price at all. ESPECIALLY twice.
It kills me to hear people act like SwSh were the first "lazy" Pokemon games when a lot of its core issues, in my honest opinion, started with the 3DS era and reached their worst level at Ultra.

    • @showmeyourmoves8551
      @showmeyourmoves8551 3 года назад

Third version were present since pokemon yellow. Ultra being 2 version is not that different and big deal anymore since trading is easier than ever. Of all the games in the series, gen 7 is the one you should not call lazy. It has an amazing production value and it pushes 3ds to its limits. Regardless of how you feel about the game, lazy is not the correct description to it.

    • @ActuallyTragic
      @ActuallyTragic 3 года назад +1

@@showmeyourmoves8551 Pokemon Yellow was not two separate releases and third versions were always a scam. Ultra was just the worst iteration of it. And for all intents and purposes, the base Sun and Moon were the games that I actually liked from the past 3DS/Switch era, which is why I'm even more mad that Ultra exists, because it's a worse third version of those games that is arbitrarily split up into its own release, advertised like it was a more substantial package than it really was.

People mostly criticize today's pokemon games cause back in the day there wasn't really a way of updating a handheld game.
But since the 3DS, not only can games receive all manner of updates but also make use of DLCs.
For example, og japanese versions of the old games have bugs and glitches not present in the international versions, because all the other versions were made afterwards and are therefore patched. There wasn't any other way of doing this without making new cartridges with different versions of the roms.
But I do understand what you mean.
Personally, after I played through Ruby, Emerald and Pearl, as a kid, seeing them release Platinum made me actually very annoyed. Which is the reason I ended up not buying it and HGSS.

The Ultra games made the story more light hearted, and I feel that was a waste of what was actually a really good story

On my first playthrough of Ultra Moon I used a Toxic strategy on a Sylveon. Which was the last of three tries. (On Ultra Necrozma)
I don't remember what I did for my second playthrough however...

    For example.
You have the scene with the Cryogenic Room where she keeps Pokémon like statues. In SM makes sense because it's stablished how she's pretty much a selfish b-tch who doesn't care for the happiness of herself...
But in USUM she's somehow a sympathetic villain with an altruistic goal?

It's interesting seeing so many people actually liking this game LOL, I'm happy that not everyone is going around in the Echo chamber of the hate train for every new Pokemon game that's released. This has gone on ever since gen 3, there was a time where everyone hated Gen 5 but now people praise it as one of the best in the series. I imagine when the dust settles around the hate train of the 3D games and gen 9 becomes a thing people will look back at gen 7 fondly

While I wasn’t blown away by Sun and Moon, but the set up could have an awesome follow through, and just feels empty unfortunately. I really wish that Ultra versions did a little more with the “alternate universes” things, and let us potentially experience the alternate universes a little more, like we did with Annabelle in ORAS.

I do also wish PMC would let mechanics stick! Mega Evos were introduced and then taken away, Z moves were introduced and then taken away, and now we’re into Dynamaxing, which will probably go away. I’d really prefer Mega Evos to come back if we get a DPPT remake soon.

Sun/Moon was a great game. One of the best stories in any mainline Pokemon game, a beautiful region to explore, and despite people complaining about how easy modern Pokemon games are, was surprisingly more difficult than many other games. However, when the Ultra games came along, they ruined one of my favorite things about Sun/Moon: the story. Lillie and Lusamine's plotline is completely ruined, and Necrozma's story is not nearly as interesting. While everything else pretty much remained the same, I just couldn't get over the change to the story, and that really just ruined the game for me.

I REALLY wish Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon had been actual sequels...
Not being sequels ruins Lusamine's character and doesn't hold her accountable for the abuse she subjected her children to in this version of events. She's just kinda... forgiven? The broken family arc is absolutely ruined. As sequels, we could have seen what happens a few years later as a new trainer comes to meet Lillie and Lusamine as they return to Alola and repair their relationship and they come to terms with the abusive period. Now with a few years under her belt as her own person, Lillie could serve as a guide rather than an escort mission, and through the story Nebby could return and protect Lillie.
The Ultra games being sequels could have given so much room for development of necrozma as the legendary boss.
The base trainer from Sun and Moon for whichever character selection you pick in USUM could be the champion and could have the starter strong against yours. Alternatively they could appear as their own developed character so as to not do the odd thing B2W2 did in its complete exclusion of Hilbert/Hilda, and a character like Hau or Gladion or someone else you met in your journey through Sun and Moon could be given a similar jump to the one Iris was given. One of the SM Captains could rise to the top and make way for a new captain, like a steel, psychic, bug, poison, etc captain.
So much could have been done better but they didn't do it. I still enjoy the hell out of what we get but I have plenty of wishes that weren't what we got.

I've played Pokemon since gen three and so I'd like to think I know what makes a good experience.
Pokemon sun/moon and ultra sun/moon are odd for sure like the vid says. There not normal enhanced versions, and there not sequels ether. There sorta in the middle. Sorta a 1.5 version if you would. That's my take on them at least. And while the story wasn't bad, I mean look at gen 1 and 2 the main story in those games was nigh non existent depending on how you look at it. But the big flaw with the games is just the gameplay experience the games to me feel like a chore to play. It felt like I had to do a cut scean every few minutes and the trainer battles where not challenging enough. In gen 5 one of my favorite gens by late game I was facing teams of four five and six pokemon. But gen 7 I'm seeing at most three on trainers. It's pitiful so while not bad games I don't think I'll pick them up again if I do for quite a while.

I see USUM as a big reference to Emerald, Platinum and B2W2.
Emerald is THE third version experience, but most of the main story doesn't really change except for a few moments. It's the post game where it really shines, like USUM'S Rainbow Rocket.
Platinum is more concerned about Giratina, and you visit the Distortion World, like Ultra Necrozma and Ultra Megaopolis.
B2W2 are sequels, yes, but that's not what's being referenced. It's their Dual Nature, which is why they couldn't make a Grey. SuMo had a gimmick that couldn't be put in one version, and the Box Art was fused Pokemon, just like B2W2.
      At least, that's my opinion

I think I mostly agree, but I do like Gen 1 and 2 for being that fairly open set up: You want to be a Pokemon master, and your Pokemon Professor wants you to complete the Pokedex. On those two things alone, you go and explore the world for the first time and try to make your way across the country to complete your goals. Along the way, you keep bumping into Team Rocket, who are up to no good, so you practice being a good samaritan and stop them. Even Lance is involved in Gen 2, which is a nice call back for Gen 1 fans. Then you finally become a gym leader and beat the rival who’s been a jerk to you the entire time, to achieve your dream of being a Pokemon champion. Definitely a fan of the “less is more” here like people were for BotW being more about exploring vs needing the guided-tour with a lot of cutscenes that some of the newer Zelda games got.

To me UsUm are the best Pokémon mainline games of the last 5 years. They are what SuMo should've been from the beginning in terms of mechanics and overall content. So you can actually skip or ignore SuMo at this point. Since I'm not a fan of Pokémon GO & LGPE and also SwSh was just a big disaster in my opinion, where the Crown Tundra was the savior, I'll always prefer to play UsUm on my 3DS than any Pokémon game on the switch so far. Plus, everytime I restart the Alola-games, it always feels like a vacation to me. And for the difficulty of the games, I'll play Nuzlockes or create some own rules. 😁
