As someone who washes his car every 7-10 days, I can tell you that McGuire's works fine, but you're 100% correct about the gel being a pain in the ass to apply, I normally use their tire spray, and it's hands down the glossiest I've seen.
I use the Meguiars tire gel, and you are going to have to take your time applying it. Plus it lasts a good while, and i haven't had any splash alongside the car since I've been using it.
Reminds me of my old college Materials Testing class, where we tested wood adhesives, everything from water-soluble to noxious. The winner was Elmers Wood Glue. The runner up was regular Elmers Glue. Both classic, low priced, with the highest strength.
I use Meguiar's tire shine that comes in a spray _cannister_ , and it works pretty well for a few weeks and in between a couple of washes. Apply 2 coats to a clean, dry tire and you're good to go! Only downside is it take a long time to really dry/cure so as to not get any "spin off" onto your lower side panels, which is easy to get off with some detail spray.
I’ve used Meguirs endurance gel. If you like shine, that’s a go-to, but it last for about 3 weeks with 1 wash per week. I’d recommend to get a tire coating instead of a dressing. I use tire coating & protection by Optimum. It looks like a hybrid of the original Armor All and Griot’s garage and last for several months.
My biggest concern with tire shine is how well it stays on the tires. Nothing is worse than black or shiny spots on a nicely cleaned car body after one drive.
I have a Grios Garage Satin Finish spray I just started using at the beginning of summer. At first was for my Jeep since I didn't want high gloss and dirt buildup. But, ended up as the preferred dressing for my 300 and Telluride. May be my favorite so far.
TRINOVA is the BEST tire dressing I've ever used in over 2 decades! It is NOT messy or oily. It's not super shiny. Just makes it tires nice and black without slinging shit up on your paint.
I like the tire to shine. I like the slick look. The only product on here that I used was ArmorAll. I have used two other products that I can't remember the names of and they did the job. One was just for the tires and the other was for both rims and tires. Both did the job for making tires shine. However, the dual shine (rim and tire) did work for the tires, it didn't really help the rims. I don't know if I was doing somthing wrong, the the tool I was using or just the product didn't do as advertised.
Nice job Cooley, I'm surprised how much I like the Armor All dressing too. I hear you on gels! My personal technique is to wash the wheels and tires first, then I'll apply tire dressing which for me currently is the Chemical Guys VRP mixed 3:1 in a spray mist bottle with water to make it a liquid and I'll let it sit while washing the rest of the car. Once the paint is washed, I'll lately wash the tire like you did with the car soap at the end of the wash cycle. For me, this knocks down any excess product, it washes the dressing off of the alloy wheel as well, leaves a clean and even satin finish tire.
Love these! Thank you. Only thing you forgot to test is tire shine sling. A lot of these leave a lot of residue on the side of your paint from slinging around.
I've been using Meguiars tire gel for years, it never really thought about it's difficulty in application. You definitely can get a "good" appearance on it, you just need a good technique to applying it. But seeing as how all the sprays came out that good with the little effort you put in, i actually might switch to one.
Be careful of Chemical guys VRP if you accidentally leave some on a rim it will pull the clearcoat off so make sure you wipe off your nice rims if you get any of this product on them!
The gel is harder to work with and I don't think Cooley took the time to apply them well. If you half-ass the application, they look splotchy like in the video. I've used the Meguiar's and it definitely is the longest lasting but ultimately it as too shiny for my tastes. I didn't have any issues with it attacking dirt or hair. Otherwise, a pretty good comparison! Thank you! Looks like Griot's for my taste...
I’m with you I don’t high sine in my tires! I just want a real clean look! Plus many are using for cleaning tires and rims with Super Clean spays to get those items clean! You should test that with real dirty ones getting clean if the reviews are correct or just pulling our legs!
Cover All Tire Dressing (Aerosol) by SUPERIOR. The best I ever used. It’s not available in California and a few other States because of VOC regulations. I think they offer one that is, but it’s not the same.
I enjoy these videos. I think you guys should do a video on cleaning rims and cleaning and detailing the engine. With cleaning the and detailing the engine, you guys can dive into the myth maybe fact that the the dirt and grime traps the heat and cleaning and detailing the engine allows your car engine to run cooler.
Cooley you left out the best tire dressing out there. Where's Black Magic? That's the best dressing I've ever used so far. Especially when it comes to shine.
having used Amourall, Meguiar's, & Turtle wax... by far the best is Turtle wax. Non gels of the others are great, but what I truly dislike on my fresh wash is spin off... & both gels do that & turn black.
Before I even watch this if the Armor All tire stuff is anything like their other products than anything would be better, doubly so if it was from established brands like Meguiar's or Mothers. Edit: So having just watched the video I have to say its not a very scientific comparison between tires, which at least Cooley acknowledged so prompts to him on that. I'm also not sure if Cooley applied the Gel finishes correctly.I think he left too much on the tire (hence the un-even appearance). Regardless true test of how well a tire-dressing performs is real world driving conditions, would have loved to see Roadshow attempt that as well.
I Wish we had more of Brain Cooley come on CNET. Being back full episodes of on cars please. Can you imagine if CNET brings out a 30 min weekly show hosted Brian Cooley and Molly Wood! Now that would get millions of views call it Check the tech.....Royaltys to me please lol.
This would have been great if the review showed how the tires look after a week of everyday normal road use. Most people don’t let their car sit for a week after dressing their tires. Good information overall though!
Hi. Very nice video. Wish you could or would have included. Chemical guys O-HIGH SHINE. NEW CAR HIGH SHINE DRESSING. Used it for the first time. Excellent product. Is 100% dry to the touch. Has a medium shine. So far it’s the best product I have used. Great product and I am with you on the original Armero. I also like armor all tire foam. Low shine. And like you I hate the gel. And I have not had very good luck with aerosol can you do hygiene products so far they’ve all been garbage except for the armor all.
Been using Megiuars gel for years. Prefer the old formula. Low luster. Just stream a bead like toothpaste on the applicator. Nor over saturated. Old formula lasted about a week. no dust cling. after washing looks clean.
Episode brings back the memories of good old days.... CNET on CARS
We want more Cooley!
We want more Cooley!
We want more Cooley!
dont worry guys i have arrived
Brian Cooley you need to do more of this!
I 2nd that.
Cooley is literally the BEST. Seeing him and his no nonsense reviews is so refreshing
Reminds me of the CNET on Cars. Mr. Coolie deserves a weekly show (30 mins). He is one amazing automobile journalist!
As for the tire stuff, I use Black Magic "Tire Wet." Been using it for years!!!
Agree with you 100% that's all I use it's easy and it works great
How about CNET's version of the best "waterless" car wash products?
opium

How long does the spray last? 5 days of normal driving?
I use the Meguiars tire gel, and you are going to have to take your time applying it. Plus it lasts a good while, and i haven't had any splash alongside the car since I've been using it.
This Guy agreed. Love the Endurance Gel
He seemed bias against the gels from the get go, and didn't give them their proper application.
Loved the fact Cooley is back and also you didn’t leave us waiting 7 days to see the result!
Congrats Original Armor All. Nice to see one of the least expensive as the winner.
Reminds me of my old college Materials Testing class, where we tested wood adhesives, everything from water-soluble to noxious. The winner was Elmers Wood Glue. The runner up was regular Elmers Glue. Both classic, low priced, with the highest strength.
Endurance is my favorite
Shoutout to the duck tape for making this all possible 😂😂😂😂
Lol
Wow Cooley I figured you guys were going to just test junk but I’ve used all that stuff over the years I’m pretty impressed with your research !
Cooley, we miss your old car show. Bring it back
Literally a video about tire shine.
Proof that we will watch almost anything that has Cooley in it.
An OSH BUCKET!! I miss that store!!
You can thanks Sears for running them into the ground...I loved OSH before the takeover by Sears.
@@MichaelSmith-kr9qw I thought it was LOWES that took them over and ruined them - not Sears?

I clean my car every two weeks because I go every where so🤷🏽♂️
Cooley went all in on this one. I love it!
Cooley dressed as the parking lot...blending pretty well
My biggest concern with tire shine is how well it stays on the tires. Nothing is worse than black or shiny spots on a nicely cleaned car body after one drive.
Nice study. I'll have to give armor all a try again after all these years of using a gel.
I have a Grios Garage Satin Finish spray I just started using at the beginning of summer. At first was for my Jeep since I didn't want high gloss and dirt buildup. But, ended up as the preferred dressing for my 300 and Telluride. May be my favorite so far.

14.5 min of Cooley. What did we do to deserve this?

Thank you for taking the time and testing the products.
Been using Car Guys for a couple of months now. It has great shine (not gross gloss) and easy, no fuss application.
Thank you Brian Cooley. Keep on reviewing cars and products!
Love these! Thank you. Only thing you forgot to test is tire shine sling. A lot of these leave a lot of residue on the side of your paint from slinging around.
Black jack is by far my absolute favourite. Silicone gel on a sponge applicator, old but gold.
I've been using Meguiars tire gel for years, it never really thought about it's difficulty in application. You definitely can get a "good" appearance on it, you just need a good technique to applying it. But seeing as how all the sprays came out that good with the little effort you put in, i actually might switch to one.
Mr Cooley when are we going to see you reviewing cars again?
Cooley's approach is always entertaining. Thumbs up!
Now, this is a well done review of a niche product (that I use a whole lot!)
I stopped using spray because I was endlessly cleaning the overspray off my rims.
Car Guys did you try them?
Be careful of Chemical guys VRP if you accidentally leave some on a rim it will pull the clearcoat off so make sure you wipe off your nice rims if you get any of this product on them!
I love that he still has that old wagon LOL
At 10:42 you state 7 weeks? Must be a typo/blooper... ;-)
Can't get enough of Cooley!
Nice video! Griots makes a tire gel, spray, and a matte finish spray and they cannot be beat in my opinion!
Where was this video before I got the gel!!?? Gaaaah! Thanks for this, very informative.

ur comparison is by far the best comparison i ever see, thumb up !!
This is a great video!!! Keep it up, keep on Cooley.
Thank you for your time and money for this topic
14 minutes of Cooley. HELL YEAH
Cover All Tire Dressing (Aerosol) by SUPERIOR. The best I ever used. It’s not available in California and a few other States because of VOC regulations. I think they offer one that is, but it’s not the same.
If Brian Cooley leaves CNET On Cars, so am I. The man is just refreshingly brutal. I love it.

Cooley is an American hero.
Cooley you left out the best tire dressing out there. Where's Black Magic? That's the best dressing I've ever used so far. Especially when it comes to shine.
Meguiars D170 Hyper Dressing or CarPro Perl. No contest.
You should try aero cosmetics rubber tire care. Water based and low shine. It looks like a brand new tire. It also lasts a VERY VERY long time.
BEST 14min 26seconds spent IN MY 50 YEARS ! ! !
Try comparing these products to Turtle Wax Jet Black Tire Kit. This tire shine lasted me through a hurricane and have an even gloss
Whatever happened to this show... it was awesome!
Great review and comparison!
Cooley needs his own car show... more practical info and a funny genuine personality in his videos than on the crappy car shows on cable.
Great job!! Really great video!
I love to watch Cooley videos
They use the music from the Giant Beastcast when he cleans the tires.
Cooley, you are the man!
Great job Cooley 👍🏻
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... "Cooley for President 2020"
Love to put this stuff on my vinyl seats.
More Cooley please.
the spray always gets on my rims so i just stopped bothering cleaning them myself. I'll get my car detail once or twice a month more so for the tires.
Which is best for my tank's tread?
Ha ha ha. I'd love to see how any of them would do after a week here in rainy Ireland!
Seamus Carroll so your tires look wet most of the time?
Not so much wet as muddy!
having used Amourall, Meguiar's, & Turtle wax... by far the best is Turtle wax. Non gels of the others are great, but what I truly dislike on my fresh wash is spin off... & both gels do that & turn black.
I will not wipe the tires so no gel for me. I like Meguiar's Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray.
Before I even watch this if the Armor All tire stuff is anything like their other products than anything would be better, doubly so if it was from established brands like Meguiar's or Mothers.

Meguiars endurance tire gel is the best !!!
Good stuff as always, more cooley!
The standard armor all looks the best imo lol
How does this compare to Armor All Extreme Tire Shine?
This would have been great if the review showed how the tires look after a week of everyday normal road use. Most people don’t let their car sit for a week after dressing their tires. Good information overall though!
How funny I’ve been using car guys for a long time now Cooley hey, thanks for the great video you probably don’t read the comments but that’s OK 👍
Hi. Very nice video. Wish you could or would have included. Chemical guys O-HIGH SHINE. NEW CAR HIGH SHINE DRESSING. Used it for the first time. Excellent product. Is 100% dry to the touch. Ive spent a small fortune on tire shines. My favorite has to be Carfidant.
i like it to, but not available by the gallon.
About time a real review
This video should have way more likes and views. The best video to decide which tire product im going to b using now. Hint its armor-all lol
Been using Megiuars gel for years. Prefer the old formula. Low luster. Just stream a bead like toothpaste on the applicator. Nor over saturated. Old formula lasted about a week. no dust cling. after washing looks clean.
Cooley is always interesting!
Love your watch
thanks for making this video! definitely subscribing! ♥️👍🏽
I love over the top shine
The question is which one resist UV and dry rot?
More Cooley please
More Shine by Stoner. It’s fantastic !! The best. I’ve tried them all
I’m surprised you didn’t try Maguire’s foam cleaning and shining spray
What’s the silver car in the back behind the black one
The one that makes them look new but no shine is the best
That ole school armor all is especially good for white wall tires.
