How to start retrieving with an older dog? When it comes to an older dog that has struggles retrieving, we always start in an enclosed area like a hallway or, in this case, an enclosed porch. This is the same way we start retrieving with our little puppies. By beginning the game of retrieve in a location where the dog has no other option but to come back to you. Once we get really solid in this location, we can expand to more distracting areas with other options.
