Just a side note for newer techs... If the compressor shows a short at the compressor terminals, make sure you disconnect the wiring at the compressor and recheck for internal shorts before condemning the compressor. I've had dozens of apparent shorts that turned out to be rub throughs in the conduit between the control panel and the compressor. 😀

Just wanted to say, coming from residential hvac to commercial refrigerant has been tough. Resi hvac has a ton of info available on RUclips, if you ever get stuck on something, someone somewhere has too and they filmed and posted the fix. The same cannot be said about supermarket refrigeration. I basically rode around with a guy for a week mostly breaking up ice in a freezer then they sent me off on my own and said you’ll figure it out. If it weren’t for your videos I can honestly say I don’t know if I’d have lasted very long. Your videos are very thorough and have helped me understand all the things I was never told. So just wanted to say thanks from one New England tech to another!

Man I’m glad I’m not the only one who does this , and I know to start with the easy stuff first but in a round about way we find and fix the problems great video brother

Your troubleshooting is excellent! I've been in the HVAC/R skilled trade for some years. Your videos, from a teaching standpoint, are better than any other service technicians' videos that I've watched on RUclips. I'm not knocking any of them. They all are competent technicians...Please correct me if I'm wrong in the following two scenarios: If that open contact within the contactor occurred while the contactor coil control voltage was de-energized, then once the control coil was energized on a call for refrigeration, the compressor that contactor controls would never have started due to one phase missing from the three phase power supply required. The overload within the compressor motor windings would have eventually opened up if the locked rotor amperage remained present for too long. Another scenario could be that the contactor contact opened up on that one leg while the compressor was already online running. In that case, the compressor would have begun to single phase which would mean it would run very inefficiently by way of its amperage draw significantly increasing and there would have been a voltage deviation between the phases that was well above the less than 3% deviation allowed by the OEM. Eventually, the internal compressor motor windings overload would have opened up and the motor would be de-energized, even if the contactor was still closed... One last note, I am not comfortable front seating a discharge valve unless the curcuit breaker for the compressor is locked out and tagged out by me first or unless I have pulled off the two control voltage wires from the contactor coil of the contactor that controls the compressor I am isolating. I also have to tape off those two control voltage wires with electrical tape if I take that route. That is the only way I'd feel safe that the compressor could not start while I have the discharge valve in the front-seated position. Again, this video was excellent teaching. Thank you for uploading and sharing it. You are a very good commercial refrigeration service technician.

When you paused out the oil from the compressor- Did you attach the common hose to the liquid header or the suction header??

So one side of my gauges hooks up to the back of the compressor.
The other side hooks up to any high pressure Area. So you could use the discharge or the liquid.

I might have said the wrong voltage by mistake.
But the contactor it's self is rated for both voltages

How do I donate to your channel????
I’m not rolling in dough by any means.
But you deserve it I know you’re just some random guy on the internet and you’ve never claimed to know it all.
But dammit the shit that’s being told To me in the field is not adding up, until I watch one of your videos.
Again you don’t have to do what you do, but you do it anyway.
I aspire to be a better technician everyday. And your videos really help reinforce what I’m being taught out there.
    Thank you 🙏🏾🫡
