Sounds like you got it figured out. On this car the cables themselves were getting corroded and weren't long enough for me to cut the end off and put a new end on...thus I replaced the entire cable.

can you use 0 gauge wire for both sides or does it have to b 2 gauge?
Should not be an issue to go larger

Can I use 4 gauge wire instead if I don’t have 2 gauge wire ?
I am not a wiring expert, but I do know that it is generally okay to go thicker...just not thinner on wire gauge size.
