    You should try a price restriction challenge. Try to build a van for under 30k. I'm sure a lot of people who do van life probably don't have 90k and the skills to build these beautiful homes

      I mean, they only spent around $26,000 on the build out - so theoretically one could get a used rig for much cheaper than $62k and do it for significantly cheaper (if they have the requisite skills of course).

      @@jayem8981 this is a good point! Lots of good deals on vans right now too! The used marked is very low. To be fair the MSRP was actually only $56k. We included the interest on the loan in that payment as well which brought it over a year to $60+k

    Median price for a "normal " stationary residence in the United States... $300k-$400k.
    Add to this , Interest on the mortgage..Insurance..Taxes..Maintenance..Utilities and services for a 2,500 - 4,000 Sq.Ft. structure. Want to go away for a 2 week vacation or just a long weekend?... your stationary home is empty..an easy target for burglers and vandalism.
    For an individual or a couple, a mobile residence and a small.. 1/4 to 1 acre piece of land listed as a "garden plot, wood lot,or seasonal camp site" may be a much better alternative. This certainly will not be the solution for everyone.. but in todays world living a comfortable reasonably affordable life requires being flexible in our tactics.
    A good bit of advice to consider...
    Those who will not use the brains and skills they have are no better off than those who have none. They are by their own choice subject to the will and control of those who would be their masters.
    Your life.
    Your choice.

    Your builds are absolutely incredible, they're the original reason why I followed you guys. I was absolutely blown away with how sophisticated, modern and at times futuristic looking your builds are. It's like a genuine, real small apartment, but on wheels. And it's gorgeous, practical, and has all the amnesties you need. I could never understand people who are fine not having a shower, or a toilet, or miss even a small fridge, etc, in their vans. You guys squeeze in absolutely everything essential (even an oven? !), and you do it built-in, and cleverly. Absolutely incredible.

    Thank you for the list of the costs for the expansion. The prices have also risen in Europe, especially in Germany and the Nordic countries, the expansion costs a lot of money.
    I'm glad, not everywhere in the EU costs so much to rebuild, because the wages in some Eastern European countries are very low, like in Romania everything in euros for skilled workers who deliver good quality 11.00 and Bulgaria 9.30 Hungary 12.80, Poland 11.60..

    You dont buy 8020 thats a BRAND and they are like the Mercedes brand. Look up tnutz my dude. I built my camper fixtures for half what you did using it and it was far FAR less labor intensive the material is stronger and lighter. You plan it out, it comes precut with the fittings. My kids and I put them together with a couple of allen wrenches watching a movie. Granted this is obviously just the frames. Hinges, slides, drawers and faces are the same.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  2 месяца назад +1

      True. I’ve heard a lot of negative reviews about tnutz not being as precise as 8020. I’d also be very interested to know how much weight is saved over frameless wood cabinets. It seems like it would be similar since I haven’t found 8020 to be incredibly light on its own and it still needs to be covered. The precision and strength are definitely positives though!

    • @edgeofnothing67
      @edgeofnothing67 2 месяца назад

      @@scarletandseth I was a non structural engineer for 15 years building support frames out of strut and extruded aluminum. They are extremely durable. I wouldn't use tnutz for applications I designed back then as they are extreme conditions of live load(that's when I'd use 8020). However, A cabinet in a camper that will never be near the max load? Sure, I am using the aluminum extrusion brand that is 50% off. I still use many 8020 brackets though as the connections are important and they have MUCH cooler ones for many fun applications like bed frame rails on slides, load bearing hinges, etc.

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  2 месяца назад

      @@edgeofnothing67 yeah that make sense! We have done some stuff with 8020 like beds or slide outs and they do have some really great hinges, brackets and accessories!

    • @edgeofnothing67
      @edgeofnothing67 2 месяца назад

      @@scarletandseth oh, as to weight. The frame compared to wood is a third the weight. It can also support longer lengths/heights than wood. The 10 series aluminum can be used for every application of any dimension in a van, except a bed frame and even the frame i use 15 series because the connections are more robust which is where the failures are not in the length of aluminum

    Beautiful van toy not necessary, I don't understand why so many people are building these outrageously priced luxury vans, the whole idea of getting out on the road was minimalism this is not minimalism and it's literally pricing other people right out of the market

    • @scarletandseth
      @scarletandseth  2 месяца назад +6

      I disagree that we’ve priced anyone out of the market by building this van for ourselves. As we said in the video we lived in a low roof 2004 van that we spent a total of $14,000 on in 2018 for 4 years before we chose to build this for ourselves. We knew we wanted to do it full time for another 5+ years and that we wanted a lot of features that coast a lot. That’s not to say you still can’t do it on a budget just because we chose not to on this van though. If we live in this for 5 years we will have spent a total of about $115k (including our first van) on housing for a decade which is about as inexpensive as you could hope.
