AK 3G recommended AK11895 IJN Q1 Anti-Glare Blue-black for the underside of the HKM 1/48 Lancaster that I built recently. Bearing in mind that I am colourblind, I thought that the colour worked really well. When I eventually build a nightfighter, it's going to be the paint that I will use. 😊❤😊
An all black scheme is really tough to master and fills me with trepidation because I like nightfighters and as modelling subjects. Yours looks pretty good and I learned a lot from watching you. Hopefully my first RAF nightfighter model will be as good. 😊🤞🏻 I have this one and the Airfix Defiant in my stash too.
I really enjoyed watching a full build out , your techniques are always valuable. Based on the box review I was really wanting to try this kit, however, as I mentioned in a previous post, ARMA is no longer offering it as a single kit but added it to a three order kit combo . Not a bad value but out of my budgeting range for model builds. I'm still hoping as you recommended that maybe a hobby shop got in a pre - order and is offering it as the single kit. I'm sure whatever you chose to build will be another epic adventure. Cheers
Thanks mate. Yeah, I've seen a number of local hobby shops and online retailers with these in stock so there is still hope of getting (just) one. The tropical version is being released soon too.
This looks really nice. Always odd to think how quickly we went from radar to using it for night fighting! Or even how quick from 1st flight to planes like this!
This really is an excellent kit. You've built and finished it beautifully. Looking forward to other variants, hopefully, in the pipeline. Maybe a nod to Airfix's original release by way way of a Hurricane IV armed with 60lb rockets?😊 Great content.👍
It's turned out so well, MN and the final reveal is terrific. It's a beautiful looking kit and obviously fun to build albeit those sprue gate issues and some hard to fathom instructions. Have to agree that black camo is difficult but you did manage to produce an excellent result.
Thank you Robbo. I'll look to improve and take it even further with the Defiant. There are some images out there of very heavily worn paintwork on those.
Bgreetings Nerd, that was a excellent build and the black sceme came out perfecctly, congratulations on a job well done, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Liam - appreciate the feedback. I really wasn't sure about the black at first. It's such a hard colour to paint - heck, even creating a thumbnail for the video is tough with an all-black aircraft! :)
The colour change in the decals are likely due to them not being completely opague. Therefore the background colour will show through. Nice kit, though.
Excellent job! I've always preferred the Hurricane to the Spitfire. I'm waiting for Arma Hobby to do an Australian Hurricane IIC, Southeast Asian Command.
I think the extra cost may be worth it for the rivet detail. I get a bit fed up with lots of detail in kits that ends up being internal detail that is out of sight, the "but I know its there stuff". I always build it but a few months down the line its out of sight and out of mind. For decals I always lay down a couple of coats of Tamiya X-22 clear before applying the decals. I find they move better to position them and seem to respond to decal set better. In the past where I have applied decals to matt finishes I have had the decal start to peel off the model after about a year even when I have put varnish over the decal.
I knew you would't use XF-1 as a base coat 😎 - the rubber black looks great - well done MN, congrats 👏👏👏 Could you do me a favor? Next time you use the air brush would you please try spraying with only one eye open to see if it was possible for me? I mean I would love to use one in the near future but with only a mere half of one eye working and no depth perception at all I don't think it is feasible for me. What do you think? Cheers Mike
Thanks Mike - much appreciated! Airbrushing...hmm. I can see how limited depth perception might be an issue but I'm not sure if it would be any more problematic than brush painting. Certainly if you're painting high contrast colours (e.g. a base coat over a primer) I'd imagine hand-eye coordination would be more important, as you can see the paint hitting the model and then move the airbrush accordingly. That's just a guess though!
@@ModelNerd Thank you for your assessment, but would you be so kind and give it a try to see what the pitfalls of a limited depth perception might be? I imagine myself spraying everything but the model 🙂 I mean I spray with rattle cans (outside of course) but always only the base coat - everything else is brush painted under a very large magnifying glass. I recently bought those magnifying goggles (I hope you know what I mean), but they don't work for me as great as I hoped 😞The reason I brought up this whole issue is that right now I'm totally dependent on the weather - 6 months it's too cold and too humid, and right now we're in the middle of a heat wave and it's too fecking hot to do anything outside and inside. So I thought an airbrush which can be used inside especially during winter time would solve that problem. So, would you be my guinea pig? Please? Pretty please???
Hi Mike, I'd like to offer you a tip if I may. I'm an artist and one exercise I use is to close one eye and draw something. The object of this is to see what my hand does in relation to what my single eye sees. It gives the (one) eye an opportunity to see how the hand is doing what the eye sees. I'd suggest drawing or brush painting to get a feel for what you are seeing versus what your hand is doing. Once you get an ideas of what this relationship is it should aid your manual tasks with the visual desires. Yes, I do have the benefit of closing either eye for a more complete view of what I've done, but I am of the opinion that this understanding of eye/hand can refine what you wish to do. I might also suggest that you constantly rotate the piece or your head when you look at it (move it higher, lower, to the left and right). This overcomes the lack of peripheral vision that 2 eyes provide. Quality lighting is ALWAYS essential. The eye(s) can't see anything without light! I wish you luck and please let me know if this helps. Michael Virtuoso
This kit is starting to deliver some seriously good build videos and this one is no different. very nice work
Thank you mate!
First class build I built the old matchbox 1/72 hurricane love the night fighter scheme!!
Thank you!
What a lovely job you've made of this kit. Looking forward to seeing some more builds.
Thanks! They'll be a poll coming out on Sunday where you can vote for my next build :)

@@ModelNerd You're welcome.
Excellent work maybe a worthy addition to the Hurricane choice as only the old Hasegawa for this mark
Yep, good choice by Arma Hobby

Thank you. I agree - it's hard to achieve. Did you see my video on the Airfix Defiant night fighter?
@@ModelNerd no i havent. Will look for it. I thought you hadn’t started it yet. 😄
Great looking result, looking to pick one of these up to try an ADLS Hurricane.
Thanks! I'd definitely recommend it.
Looks amazing up there with my favourites will definitely try a hurricane night fighter now. Brilliant
Thanks!

Nice build…. Before decalling i use Humbrol Clear, really great stuff..
Thanks. I use VMS gloss which is my new favourite varnish, along with their matt coat
Beautiful job on great kit.
Thanks mate
Nice job, the all black came out well.
Thanks

What was the rubber black number?? I think it'll go well on my mk3 HST coaches, the bodies and lower frame areas.
It's Tamiya XF-85
Gorgeous!
Thank you Mark
Pretty nice! 👍

👀looks a nice little kit ,do have it when instructions don't correctly tell you 😠😠lucky you spotted the light .

Excellent job! I've always preferred the Hurricane to the Spitfire. I'm waiting for Arma Hobby to do an Australian Hurricane IIC, Southeast Asian Command.

I can't find this kit online, can anyone point me?
It was a relatively short run, I think. There should be similar versions on most of the UK based sites though, I would have thought.

Nice build of a nice kit but too expensive for my mdel budget.
Fair enough for sure - it is a fair bit more expensive than counterpart kits in the same scale.
