    The 'gun' on the top wing is actually a gun camera that was activated by firing the main guns and used for training. It is housed in an adapted WWI era Lewis gun mounted upside down. You can see the grip pointing upwards. Nice build.

    I’m 100% behind Airfix bringing out this British classic aircraft,,as I’m bewildered by some who super criticize Airfix for doing so.Seeing your great build and how the parts look and go together answers any critic..If a company like ICM released this kit the critics would scream why Airfix isn’t doing such subjects..
    Great build and video..Your video’s are good to watch as you explain all very well and your love of the hobby really comes across..✌️😃👍

      Agree - I didn’t rate Airfix highly previously, as I felt they relied mainly on brand name to keep selling very old tool kit with flimsy styrene.
      However in the last few years, they’ve been absolutely smashing it out of the park with new tooled British subjects. Buccaneer, Walrus, Gannet, Wellington, Anson… they’ve produced nothing but exceptional kits

    I think it is the rigging which reminds me of old sailing ships!!

    In the automotive "real" world, to get metallic pigments to stand up correctly is vital to avoid tiger stripes (you can always tell when a metallic car has been resprayed by an amateur!). So, to do the front part of the fuselage, I would spray clear base WITH levelling thinner to keep it tacky whilst refilling your colour cup with the duraluminum, and spray that on very slowly until you get the desired effect. Give it a go sometime... won't hurt!😊
    All the best.

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  6 месяцев назад +2

      My apologies for not recording it! Hopefully this will help explain:
      In terms of attaching the rigging, I use a thin super glue. Not super thin as that dries a little to quick, any manufacturer will do for this. I then use some vernier callipers so approximate the distance between the two mounting points. Then what I will do is cut out a length of rigging that I know is about 25% longer than it needs to be for the distance, to give me some working room for error. I’ll then dab a small amount of the thin glue onto the very end of the rigging, and place it onto one of the mounting supports. After that has dried, using a pair of tweezers, I will stretch it until it is tight and at the opposing support and snip off the 20/25% excess that I used. Then repeating like before, a small dab of super glue on the end and using the tweezers I will rest it in the supports position for 45 seconds as the glue cures.
      Hope this helps!👌🏻

    Excellent instructions and camera work. I would like to see more detail of doing the rigging - so far I have jibbed at doing a biplane because of "rigging anxiety." Do you have any preference for detail brushes. I did buy a Winsor and Newton No. 7 and it has been in a different league from anything else I've used, but the cost is prohibitive and I'm not a pauper, but I wondered f there is anything out there to compete that you may recommend?.

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  6 месяцев назад

      Apologies! This is how I did it:
      In terms of brushes, I just use a cheap £20 set off of amazon. Not very professional but they have served me well for two years now! Would you look to recommend them?

    The reason of the assimetric placement of the bombs is that this way they can counteract the rather strong torque effect of the engine. At least as long as they are there... Just a guess but this method was used later on the F4U corsair as well.

    What are the colour callouts like? Airfix have improved and actually come closer to Tamiya, who leave no room for error whatsoever, but there are still times I've noticed when they've not specified a colour for any one part or area. I'm no expert in any one plane but enjoy building kits and need that guidance.

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  6 месяцев назад

      In my opinion I found the colour call-outs to be superb, any areas you see unsure about are covered in the painting guide section of the instructions. Also after looking at some references, they are spot on👌🏻

    As they say in Australia....bonza job, Luke, stunning result and another informative video. Great job on that rigging, too. I build WW1 (1/32) planes and find the rigging really fiddly so in 1/48 it must be so much more.....obviously Airfix did an amazing job with the diagrams and contact points for the line so good on them. Do you have any other biplanes in the stash or would you consider having a crack at another one some time in the future??

    One sided bomb rack? I would speculate reason is a propelers' torque - it should try to rotate the plane to the right. Having bombs and gun on left might help with it, but thats just a guess :D

    • @machmodels

      So all of the struts initially sat with no cement of gluing of the sort, after I had “jiggled” everything into place I glued everything in place with ammo mig ultra glue. If you are unfamiliar, it is a super strong PVA glue, it dried super hard but doing affect the paint finish underneath. Hope that helps!
