Sailed across the ocean all over Europe. Comes to UK and gets robbed. I really get irritated at the state of my homeland at times.
At times? Dude, half of the London population is not from London.
@@yarpenzigrin1893 that is the case in most capitals like Helsinki, Tallinn etc. People move to the capital from inside the country and also from outside
@@jonnenne Let me be clearer. By not from London I mean not from the UK.
When I was in Sweden in a big city called Kalmar back in the 1980's, to my astonishment my girlfriend would leave her keys in the ignition...those days are long gone and yes it has nothing to do with the Swedes that you can't do that anymore..
It's disgusting I will donate a £10 towards this
Thanks for the video Sam. Saddened to see you ripped off by the marina and double saddened to hear that your bike got nicked. The further south you go in the UK the more you will be disappointed.
Come to the very far North and all will look better. One week of mooring in London will pay for an entire winter here, and the keys have never come out of my car ignition for 2 years. If it is not there when I come back I know someone needed it in a hurry and when they return it there will probably be a bottle of Highland Park in the passenger seat.😁👍
I once rented one of those narrowboats and toured around the Midlands and Shopshire for a couple of weeks. It was a grand adventure and I would highly recommend it if you get a chance.
So sorry to see your bike got nicked. Keep on being positive and don't let this event keep you down! The look on your face as you picked up your cut bike lock. Wow.
I think he took it well because he fancied a 16”er, but didn’t have a valid reason to replace his. then…..poof. magic.
It´s a no shocker for us living in London to get robbed, jacked, or armed assaulted in broad day light in the best areas of the city (not to speak if you head eastwards!). It´s become a third world city over the last 2 decades with mass migration from ex colonies.
@@agustinenzoa4447 When you say "armed assaulted," surely you don't mean with firearms, do you?
@@agustinenzoa4447 what do you mean "eastwards" ..... What happens over there?
It's clear Sam's an expert sailor making light work of the challenges most would find daunting.
Fascinating Sam to see a yacht head up the Thames to London.
When I commented on your last video, I was contacted by someone who left a message against my comment, and a number to text, as whoever it was had a gift for me. I texted the number, and after more questions was given another number to claim a prize, which was a kayak.
When they asked for my email and postal address, I realised it was a scam…as they were phishing.
Just feel that you should know as they are probably targeting your subscribers. The first two messages appeared on your RUclips comments section.
Great video.
Sailing up the Thames is sailing through a lot of history. 11:00 (JIC) that's Cutty Sark at Greenwich - right after you crossed the Prime Meridian. And if you visit the Greenwich Observatory and see the mark at 0 degrees longitude, your (American) phone GPS will read wrong. 0 degrees for 'our geoid' is about 250 feet east. That puzzled me when I was there. Google Maps and other map apps work just fine.
Farther up the Thames is the Golden Hinde (replica) of Francis Drake's ship he circumnavigated in.
And sorry about your bicycle and the Queen - hope you had alternative plans for high tea.
Enjoyed your comments. I thought that the masted ship must be the Cutty Sark. ‘hope to make it back to see it as it was under repair when I was last there.

@@agustinenzoa4447 I am sincerely sorry for the crime that you are claiming. A contributor may be the UK’s having built a colonial empire through exploitation and enslavement that may be coming home to roost. Anyway, be the best you can to your fellow man and woman.
They wanted what we had to offer sooo, so badly, they begged and begged us to supply them with more of what they couldn’t. Please come with more, they begged and pleaded at the time.
Do they now have buyers remorse ?
What do they have to offer us today, that we can’t supply ourselves. ?
Sailing past Cutty Sark without the slightest of nods, off-handedly mentioning the Queen's death, calmly noting the theft of his bike... Sam is the ultimate unfazed tourist :D
(Brommies are great bikes. Rode mine (6-gears) all the way from KL to Viet Nam a few years back. If you can overcome the dork factor, you won't regret buying one)
Wonderful vid. Your skill level in making your way to harbor is most impressive!
1 sentence that ways gives me chills is
"Drilling holes in the boat"
I love turning into your videos. I’m an artist and I am always amused by the simple things in life so you can only imagine how cool it is to watch you sail pretty much anywhere in the world you want. It’s got to be up there in one of the monumental adventures of life and being able to watch your videos as you document it is fascinating and a absolute joy. This summer I helped a family friend sail from Hilton head island to the Chesapeake Bay. It was a 3 1/2 day passage and one I’ll never forget. I plan on helping him out in the future. I did a little bit of video work but I haven’t even looked at it because funny enough; I didn’t video a whole lot. Each day was such an adventure and as a photographer I just put the electronics away and truly enjoyed the sail.
Finally a cruiser and not a yachtie. one who is traveling with little money but with experience and seamanship. thanks and keep it up!
Brompton Bikes are iconic, you won’t be disappointed.
Be sure to secure your boat well in Amsterdam, if you’re leaving it for a while. My brother had his boat stolen there last year. However he did find a few weeks later but with three migrant workers living on it. Police were very good at helping my brother out of this difficult situation. I guess this is common and these guys would have just moved onto some other poor persons boat.
Thats so sad about your bike ... i am so sorry on behalf of all Brits ... but i am glad it didnt spoil your stay in London and thankyou for the great videos 🙏
@@darrinito sailor Sam is blessed with some kind of special je ne quai ça. Very full of joi de vivre. Seldom speaking of an emotion, hearing him state it’s exciting sailing up the Thames to London must get chalked up to a major life moment. An ultimate event. 😊
So glad I stumbled across your channel… I really enjoy watching these adventures
Sorry about your Bike
👆SCAMMER 👆
Nice rendition of London Calling! Love The Clash! Sucks that your bike was stolen.
Sam, I suggest drilling a hole through the googeneck nut and bolt when fully installed and put a cotter pin or something in it. also on any other bolts that are subject to loosening. Cheers bro! Thank you for the years of adventure. Im always looking for my first yacht.
Ah Sam i'm so gutted i didn't see you in Harwich! My house almost looks over where you were moored and it's you that has inspired me to sail. I bought a boat - a classic wooden - so obviously it's not in the water yet lol! Will be though and a big dream is to sail under the QE2 bridge like you did in this video. The times i've driven over that bridge in crazy traffic - all noise and fuss - to sail under in calm would be amazing!
Real shame i didn't know you were in Harwich, i would have loved to chat and show you around. Christopher Jones's house was just opposite where you docked, he was the Master of the "Mayflower"' that took the first pilgrims to America, don't know if you saw his house?
Anyway, thanks for all the inspiration and honestly, all the best mate! :))
congrats on the classic wooden & thanks for the historic observation. the Mayflower is one of the most well-known vessels ever, next to Noah’s Arc, the RMS Titanic & the RMS Lusitania, who’s torpedoing was what brought us Yanks into WWI to fight alongside you, against the Kaiser’s Army…sorry we were so damn late.
@@corporalclegg914 Haha better late than never lol! The help was appreciated! :) Your Noah's Arc reference made me chuckle...Cheers!
I’m going to hit you up when I make my sail from the US. It’ll be YEARS since I’ve just got my first boat. I live in land locked Oklahoma so starting out with an O’Day 22 in order to figure out what I’m doing. I’ll have a big ol 40 footer one day to cross the oceanic divide between us. I’m so stoked! I power washed my boat today. It’s like night and day. Looks like a new boat all together.
Nice clips from the National Gallery and the Museum. You saw a lot of London on your short stay. Your sailing up the Thames was amazing.
Another good video! I liked the tour of London, bummer about your bike and I hope the new one works well for you.
I really admire you.
Seriously.
Wow its makes a tingly feeling seeing Sam sail around places i know so well!
I recognize the color of the sky and the water from Keep Turning Left. Your work is almost equal to that classic. Thank you for posting such excellent videos.
I had to laugh when you talked about the red and green navigation lights- I did the same thing two months ago coming into Monterey at night. Good to know I'm in fine company!
Too Cool, Sam. thanks for taking us along with you on your voyages. I remember your Carolina shop & boat overhaul like it recently happened & also locating you on the eastern side of Bermuda. Too Cool, Man. Enjoy the Ride.
Extremely cool!! I don't think I've seen ANY other sailing channels sailing on the Thames.
Well, not the popular ( the ones with a lot off talking, and money making) but he,dont panic if you like sailing the thames maybe you will get also what you want on “ nauticat 33 naughty ghost” year 2019,i wonder what you think off it.
( ps sorry i dont talk the whole time, and i dont ask money at the end)
You're getting really good on your keyboard. My condolences to you having your bike stolen. I know that feeling all too well and it really sucks. Stay safe my sailing free brother from another mother.
Thank you for us to follow your adventure, and se london from the sea side.
Love from Sweden
Watching these exciting videos Im now just started a new chapter at 63 years old so I bought a small sailboat and taking sailing lessons then heading south ⛵️🏝
That was super cool seeing London from your perspective. Thanks Sam! 🖖🌎⛵️
Cant think of another place to see this view of london. Great adventure.
Great video Sam, thank you. I loved seeing the underside of the QEII bridge, 20 years ago I used drive over it every day! So sorry about your bike, I feel a bit ashamed. Cheers
There is absolutely no need to feel any shame. London is a “big place” … lots going on of course.
….And besides… had the thief only but known that it was Sam’s wheels that he was “lifting” he would have chosen another unsuspecting victim. 😂
Cheers 🥂 🇨🇦
So sorry you had your bike stolen Sam. You took it very well. I would have been furious but oh well, you set a GREAT example. Hope the new bike treats you well. Great video as usual. What program do you use to edit your videos, if I might ask?
Sam is the coolest mofo on the planet.
Nothing gets him mad.
Well, I'm sure plenty does, but he handles it with grace just like he does when the sea does its level best to kill him!!!!
I came here to say this. Sam! Your attitude is so chill. From "oh my bike got stolen", to " the queen died the next day". i appreciate your vibe and adventurous spirit!

@@agustinenzoa4447 A police state without the law and order.
Watching this and the previous one and you were just saying how good your bike was! Sorry mate, welcome to London....
Absolutely Awesome. Thank you
Nice with a new video, felt like it was long ago
Exciting to sail into London, not the standard canal to go through 🙂
A great watch Sam. I have just moored my 22ft sail boat on the Tidal Thames. Im pretty nervous about venturing out onto the river as a newbie.
Holy Smokes Sam - good thing you found that bolt on deck from the goose neck fitting just in time to avoid a huge mess with the boom. That folding bike you tried out was really compact. Shame of the thief that nicked your other one. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Bravo! That could not have been as easy as it looked coming into and up the Thames.
Nice video. Lucky as heck you found the gooseneck nut lying around. That could have been a mess!!
Thanks for the video. Great to know there are other buildings and bridges in London other than the usual we are shown in the States. They actually have high rise buildings and modern suspension bridges…..wow.
Sad to hear someone took your bike. Happy that you decided to try a Brompton.
I bought one for my sailboat & love it. You can find great accessories for the bike to carry your groceries and gear. Check out Brompton bike packing on youtube channels for helpful info. Just don't lock it up anywhere. It is small enough to keep it with you all the time. S/V Cork~Texas
Very happy to have found your channel. Sailing small boats, music, gliding … we have a lot in common.
If you ever sail South Africa way, and call in to Knysna, please look me up.
Be warned. Many sailors arrive for revitalising and spend years here!
Great music selection 👍
Great sailing, beautiful video!
7:59 - lucky and timely find, prevented possible and probable troubles... yikes. 11:36 to 12:04 - that was some skillful maneuvering there, Captain - WELL DONE.
You’re a Godsend for sofa sailors like me
So weird seeing you in London..Saw this 6 months after I discovered your channel. Sick, if I had known I would have come down and got you a dinner!..Next time. By the way Harwich, pronounced Harridge!. Good luck Sam.
A legit SHS episode - proof-positive right from the start: "You had me at '...this morning I'm drilling some holes in the boat...'.." The day is complete.
Haha I love how nonchalant you were about the Queen. Sorry about the bike!
You are amazing...your having to much fun ...be careful
Cables are the least secur for bicycles. Solid chain or the solid looped bar is best
u-lock or a chain for sure, really hard to defeat that in daylight with people walking by and not get sussed out
Long time fan and sailor in training (and also a Brompton lover) here. Next time you're in London, I'd be honoured to provide any assistance I can!
Audible "holy shit" moment for me at 8:05 with that gooseneck bolt. Glad you saw that and hammered it down.
Great video Sam!
Interesting and informative, keep up the good work, love your drip!
Wow Sam, you sailed past my home. Holland on sea, Essex. Opposite the wind turbines you videoed. Maybe later in the year we may cross paths. I'll be leaving Sweden for France in early spring.👍
London, nice 👍 I enjoyed my time in there. As a tourist, The Tower of London and the Crown Jewels visit was my fav. Thx for sharing 🤙
Great boat handling
I'm sorry about your bike, it sucks.
You could go down the Cantabrian Sea and visit the north of Spain, maybe go down to Portugal and Seville and then make the leap to the mainland.
Greetings.
Hi Sam. I sailed my boat up to St Kathrines dock a few years ago, cost £12 /night ($15?). Wow, prices have really increased. Stansgate Creek would have been a much better anchorage. Pity about your bike (thats London!).
London calling in a very different fashion.like it.
I met a guy at the park a little while ago who said, Hi, my name is Tyron I’ve been hit by lightning twice. Kind of shocked me, but I figured if I had been hit by lightning twice it would probably be the first thing I would tell people about myself too. Safe travels Mr. Holmes. ⛈⚡️
What an epic sail. Bucket list item right there.
Pisser about the bike...but it looks like it pushed you to upgrading to an even nicer one. I didn't catch the manufacturer but heard they were made there in the UK. Great radio skills with Thames River traffic control. Reminded me of talking with ATC when I was flying. Thanks for taking us along- brilliant shots along the way! Dean
That's a Brompton folding bike, and they do have a cult following here, great for carrying on trains and commuting or exploring, unfortunately bike thieves are common in London, especially since invention of battery grinders!
@@chrisyarnold6205 Thanks much for replying, Chris. Oh man are they pricey!
Loved the piano music. Reminded me of a Stobe The Hobe video. Happy sailing.
RIP old bike, i feel your pain as i used a lock like you did and my bike was stolen too. now i use 2 abus bordos on my ebike, no lock is perfect but it'll take a pretty commited rascal to get through two of those covertly.
@@darrinito There are plenty of good places and people in the UK. Don't let one shitty thief in London change your plans. France, well Paris, is famous for pickpockets, in which case, go directly to Ireland.
Brilllllliant Sam - great job navigating the Thames - surly unrelated - yes Ben and his bigness- sorry about your bike - thanks for sharing 👍
Great stuff Sam. Thanks. Have some fish and chips...:)
I always watch your videos so it was fun to see some of our current barges that we have for sale popping up in the video. We sell a lot of boats at South Dock but it was way too expensive for visitors!
When in London I always use the Santander bikes for getting around as the release points are everywhere.
Borough's market is a great place to eat and shop. Have a great day. Ben
Absolutely amazing where YOU are able to sail.
Once Pickled Herring is on the hard please consider Port of Everett Marina (central Puget Sound) Washington state. World class sailing all the way to the Arctic or Cabo or back to Hawaii. Everett Marina is the largest public marina on the left coast. Slip fees are reasonable, if not cheap, old sailboats are a dime a dozen. I've flipped 9 sailboats (by accident) n made some crazy money. Best was sailing on all 9 boats. If you want to do a sailing vid on Puget
Sound, inside passage to Alaska and flipping sailboats, I could help you out, I'm retired
Sorry about your bike mate. Apart from that, hope you had a decent visit passing through our big city!
Sam, you did really well on all the logistics. London is a big city and even as a native to UK I try not to go there. I have sailed a dinghy higher up the river from Putney to Tower Bridge, quite a challenge. I think you will enjoy UK sailing as you get to the Solent and further west. The marinas have become busy in summer since Covid. All weather dependent of course, but if you get North or NE winds you can get close inshore along the Jurassic Coast, which I have just done.
I'm jealous. I worked in one of those blocks in Canary Warf and used to watch the odd sailing boat come up or go down the river.
Nice one, Sam!
Great video as always, great to see you in my home town, but really sorry you got you bike nicked. typical !!
Very cool Sam! The adventure is awesome. Sorry about bike 🚴 it's probably reparations for the Boston Tea Party! 🇺🇲
Sorry about the bike. It’s a bit of NC to see a Krispy Kreme truck at 12:37. I was shocked when I got to Paddington station and saw a Krispy Kreme kiosk. Your travels are inspiring, Sam.
I have a similar cable, the big cable cutters go through those like they were made of butter. If bike thieves want a bike they get it, you can make it more difficult with two locks.
You’re the man, Sam!
Great video! Welcome to Amsterdam 🇳🇱🌷
Great trip!
Sorry to hear about your bike and are able to replace it quickly,
thank you Sam
Hi Sam, enjoyed the latest video. So sorry that you had your bike stolen, unfortunately a cable lock is just not good enough in most UK cities. I use gold standard D locks and chain locks for my bike. There are loads of videos on RUclips about these, check out the Lock Picking Lawyer for more information. I personally use Kryptonite locks but ABUS seem to be well regarded too. If you did get yourself a Brompton I hope you are enjoying it. I hope when you return to Europe in the new year you'll make a voyage to explore Wales.
Bromptons are awesome! Love mine
Enjoyed watching this one. Awesome!
Sam, was there ever an episode when you DIDN'T drill holes in your boat? haha I also would like to see you sail into Chatham Marina at some point, used to be my home harbour for quite some time.
-Dom
Thanks Sam
Always enjoy your videos
I was in London at the same time as you. Quite the spectacle.
Dude i just discovered your channel. You are an exceptionally cool dude. Stay classy!
I think I may have seen you going in from shore, I saw a blue hulled boat going in the other day.
Hi Sam,
I just wanted to say that, though I may not be buying a sailing yacht this time, I am at least going to be living on the water and you have been a real help inspiring me to make the transition! I followed a few of your videos on your ocean crossings and noticed you were recently in Bornholm (I visited way back in 1984); what adventures and now you’re in London…wow! I’ve been a bit of a nomad on the Iberian peninsula for 6 years but will soon be living on a narrowboat back in England! Perhaps you saw some at the marina? All the very best and thanks! David
Oo sounds amazing look forward to seeing where you go and hoping for some videos of your travels. Got your first sub 😁
Nice tune was that played by you. Funny first ad we see is Krisby Kreme donuts . Thanks mike
Very strange to watch this just after watching James from Sailing Triteia in the South Pacific at the same time. The world is amazing. Arriving in London must have been a great experience after sailing so many thousands of miles alone. If it was me I would have felt the urge to have a small cannon on board to fire a salute.
Missed you by 4 days. Hope you enjoyed London as much as we did
he has! got his bike stolen and all!
I did the same trip in July, found the passage up the Thames less hectic than I expected, less traffic, but the water was very rough higher up outside St Katherine Docks where I moored, too many fast cats and ribs speeding around. I was excited about your initial plan to anchor on Stangate Creek up the Medway would’ve been calmer than out in the estuary! I’ve stopped there a few times. Lots of history on the way up the river. Sorry about the bike theft, wonder if you got a Brompton, nice and small but just too expensive for me. I was directed to Hole Haven creek right at the bottom of the Thames as a good starting off point for going up river, only good for shallow draft though, 1.5m at low water. I also had a night on the Ha’penny pier at Harwich on my way north, small but friendly place. Strong tides there.
Very cool to sail into London. Love your laid back but content rich style,.
