Neither does the 429SCJ. Those 4.30s hurt it, along with a 300 pound, 11 cubic inch penalty. Auto vs. 4-speed makes driver skill important. SCJ still out mph'ed the GTX and other than the terrible wheelspin third race, beat it in ET, too. But the two are so close it's a toss up with like-to-like conditions.

Sure is. Yet so many are convinced if they drive a restored car somehow it will get ruined! Meantime these guys are having fun.
These videos are awesome!
Compared to the 429 CJ, the Super Cobra Jet engine featured four-bolt mains, a precision-balanced forged crankshaft, forged-aluminum pistons that raised the compression ratio to 11.3:1, a high-lift solid-lifter camshaft, heavy-duty connecting rods secured with "football" bolts, unique harmonic balancer and flywheel, high-volume oil pump, unique cylinder heads, high-rise intake manifold, and 780-cfm Holley four-barrel carburetor. Motor Trend and other magazines testing this car in the 1/4 mile, turning 13.3 @ 109 mph. Amide reports of making 375 hp, the factory 1970 SCJ actually made 425 hp and 450 lbft.
Breaking 100mph in the 1/4 even in the 80s was said to be a decent st car
109 in 1970 wow. I was 2 yrs old then
Fast st car no matter the brand...sure pulled good up top once the heads started working.
Does anyone know what music video/band that was with the streaker running down the hallway that was used in the Cobra Snake skit?

@@CarsAndZebras Yes! Thank you Sir!
@@CarsAndZebras Listening to this right now. twenty years just fell off. I haven't heard this in so long. A different time. Thanks for replying! I just subscribed two days ago, looking forward to your next one
Recorded in 1988. I knew I remembered this. Something buried deep. I was a whopping seven years old. But i remembered. Thanks again
IN 69, THE ROADRUNNER WAS MOTOR TREND’S CAR OF THE YEAR , MUCH RESPECT TO FORD WITH THE BOSS IN 1970 , CHEVY HAD THE LS-6 , BUT THE PLYMOUTH CUDA AND DODGE CHALLENGER SMOKED IT WITH A FASTER QUARTER MILE TIME !!!!!
13.1 and 13.3 106-108 for the ls6 which mopars are you referring to?
@@gordocarbo I WOULD BE REFERRING TO THE QUARTER MILE TESTS OF ROAD & TRACK OR MOTOR TREND TESTING !! 13.5 SEC. 70 HEMI CUDA , 70 LS - 6 CHEVELLE 13.8 SEC. HEAVIER CAR !!!
Now that's what a race would look like back in the day. As always the owners are as awesome as the cars.
Two iconic cars. If offered either one, I'd have to take the Torino just for the four speed but nothing lacking on the torqueflite.
Same..love the GTX but a sucker for deep gears 4 speeds and solid lifter engines every time! Never gets old
Too funny...as always !
Pretty consistent times for a 4-speed. 13.78, 13.74 and 13.75.
GTX was automatic and sure did have consistent times. Torino with the 4 speed not so much.
Takes a mopar to.....
You all know the rest by now.
Get laid?🤔
Myself had a 70 thunderbird with the 429 thunderjet motor. A living room on wheels
Heading to a concert in Detroit the I-75 overpass that goes uphill towards Detroit
I hit well over 130mph and the car started shaking so I let off. She still had more.
That being said doing a burn out broke the frame in 1/2.
That was her demise. I would have loved to have that motor in a Fairlane or stang.
great content
this is a fair race ! both use BF-Goodrich Radials !!
Good stuff!
Love that Torino
That Cobra is brutal!!!
Those Fords seem way under carbureted. 600cfm for a 429 cubic inch engine? Even the 780 in the super cobra jet seems a little underwhelming.
Not with the stock heads and cam. It’s plenty of carb.
@@danmyers9372 True! This was the same engine that powered the 1970 T-Bird.
Pack it up Ford boy's 😅
Well the quickest (and best looking) car lost because the GTX had a more experienced driver. That Torino was the best looking one of them all and with ALL the right boxes checked off! Too bad they didnt make a light weight version, maybe getting it under 4,000 lb.?
Reminds me of the UTG (uncle Tony garage)race this weekend where he holeshotted a F100 w/ 700hp 429 and him in a 318 powered 4 door mopar (with a little Nitrous).
Getting it out of the hole without spinning was the problem.
That 429SCJ was mad underrated. There's a dyno video on here of an original, unopened one that thumped out 484 hp with headers ( 18k miles )
Missed you
Beautiful cars.
WELL… the chub from this episodes Torino Porn went away with the $&@! in a coffee can sound effect. Awesome!! SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK!! OH HOW I HAVE MISSED THESE C&Z’s!!
Where U been?
SCJ should've smoked Hemi-less GTX...Hilarious video !!!
Just think if that GTX had 3:91 or 4:10 gears
Those 440 Mopar motors have so much low end grunt that they don't seem to need the low gears.
Yup, the automatic put the GTX in the win column.
@@dougchildress4031 good points
The 429 isn't the best engine for drag racing, the stroke is simply too short.
The Torino had good trap speeds. Put 4.10's in that GTX and say goodnight. That car ran hard !!
Don't forget the engine oil cooler with the drag pack!!
These are pretty nice ETs for what are, I assume, basically stock engines. Nice vehicles - both of them. The 3.23 gears in the GTX really hurts acceleration.
MOPAR OR NO CAR...Fords could NEVER keep up! I always preferred the 360, 383 & 440s ✌💖☮
