Driving a clutch car at the strip takes talent and practice. You already have enough to think about without controlling your rpm and your clutch pedal. And with those wimpy tires that torino could burn them through the 1/4. Notice the dodges consistency? Thats why most people prefer an Automatic in drag racing. Myself had a 70 thunderbird with the 429 thunderjet motor. A living room on wheels
Heading to a concert in Detroit the I-75 overpass that goes uphill towards Detroit
I hit well over 130mph and the car started shaking so I let off. She still had more.
That being said doing a burn out broke the frame in 1/2.
That was her demise. I would have loved to have that motor in a Fairlane or stang.

I had a 440 before so im not surprised by the numbers. It's nice to know that the common 440 would run with the Super Cobra Jet though. It's a proven engine too. I dont think a SCJ could handle all the things ppl put 440s through. The 440 (6 pack) is one of the few factory engines that could outrun a hemi. Never underestimate a 440!!!
