Holmes introduced the fact that the Doctor had two hearts as well. He is the most significant contributor to the ideas that have shaped the path of the show post Spearhead. The Krotons is also a far better story than it is given credit for, as is The Ribos Operation. The less said about the supposed 'problematic' nature of Talons the better - it remains Dr Who's finest script.
It's hugely underrated, it had brilliant dialogue throughout and an enjoyable intricate plot. For me it's perfect 'comfort blanket' Doctor Who and one for a dark winter afternoon viewing. One of his best IMHO.
27:24 Very good Robot designs in "The Mysterious Planet". Look up "Drathro". Look at the arms and hands of the robot. The designer of those went on to work in movies.
Really well put together video! I believe (and someone will correct me if I’m wrong), but I don’t think Terry Nation kept badgering Letts and Dicks’ production team with an origin story for the Daleks. I think it was Barry Letts himself who said in an interview that after Nation had handed in the script to Death to the Daleks, Letts had politely said to him, something along the lines of, “Yes, thanks for the script Terry, but there’s nothing really different to your previous Dalek scripts (Letts was trying to be tactful), so why not go away and write an origin story for the Daleks?” Which is what Nation did. As Genesis is created to Nation, I’d like to think that the majority of it was his own work, particularly the Nazi aspects, which go all the way back to the first Dalek serial that Nation wrote. I’m sure Holmes may have improved some of the dialogue here or there with his own words (all Doctor Who script editors have done that), and it’s documented fact that Nation’s opening scene with the Doctor and the Time Lord was not set on the battlefield of Skaro, but in the nice surroundings of a lovely garden! So Holmes did improve some things in Genesis, but I still believe that Nation went away from that meeting with Letts, determined to show him that he could produce a unique Doctor Who story, and he came back months later with the classic that is Genesis of the Daleks!
I'm surprised how some of the S12-14 DVDs are classified as a PG, while a story like Underworld and the invisible enemy are classified as a 12. What if the ultimate foe was finished? What if he wrote a story for the new series?
Moffat is the biggest mixed bag on the planet. Shearman is an incredible writer, but his influence on Who is hampered simply because he has contributed a limited number of scripts late in the franchise's life. He says in the MrTardis interview that he finds it ridiculous when fans treat him as an authority on the franchise because every time he's contributed something, there's been another writer overseeing him and working out the continuity. He's never worked as a producer or editor on any overarching tale. If we're saying "who's the best individual writer to contribute to Doctor Who", then consider the fact that Neil Gaiman has written two episodes and several short stories.
Great video but I need to say one thing regarding the talons of weng-chiang and the political back lash regarding this classic, from a story narrative Li H'sen Ching was augmented by Magnus Greel so he was never truly Chinese origin by this point in story terms, so I kind of feel that a english actor playing the part within the context of the story isn't necessarily politically incorrect, well that's my take right or wrong
Laurence Steele I never actually thought of that. I always wondered why they had an english actor in the role and how the makeup work makes him look like he’s got serious botox going on.
No it’s all true and can be found on sites such as Wikipedia As for the unmade stories here’s just one source: www.shannonsullivan.com/drwho/lost/lostxyz.html

Russell T Davies is essentially the NuWho equivalent of Robert Holmes. Both wrote some of the best stories, and their times on the show were both high points in terms of popularity and viewing figures.
Yes Yessss Robert Colin Holmes. My Grandpa

Yes, the woke moaning about it we have got in recent years is really pathetic.
I really enjoyed this video, hope you post a video on your thoughts of the new years special.
Great video man! A really good background into Who's most influential writer.
The Ribos Operation had the "Binro was right" scene, therefore A+++

I like Robert Holmes

The 12 rating are usually due to special features.
Those are both very interesting ‘what ifs?’
Yeah Logopolis has a 12 rating as I think Janet Fielding uses a swear word in the commentary.
23:40 U are wrong. Morgus's secretary also survived. And masterpiece means someone's greatest work.
Classic yes
Overall imo its either Moffat or Shearman
Moffat 😂😂😂

The Gunfighters isn't that bad. Good video though 😀
When did I mention The Gunfighters?
Edit: I remember now and yes it is 😉
You didn't really say HURTfordshire did you?
As I said I’m not good with place names
It's the worst story of all time

I dont think Holmes was political only in his script about the tax office.Malcolm Hulke was the political writer
Those incarnations are morbis not the doctor
Is some of this made up particularly the stories that fell through where is your source???

No, he is more the JJ Abrams.
Johanatan Morris is the NewWho Robert Holmes.
Nah Davies isn't in Holmes' league
Timeless child is not canon
