The Phantom with advanced upgrades to its engines and radar and avionics is still a very capable jet.
It's still one of the most beautiful planes and very unique in design. One of my all time favourites. I worked on them for many years at Hellenic Aerospace.👍🇬🇷

Cheers Bluelight. It sure was a privilege, we were on base for around 15 hours on this day, then another 5 hours the following day 😳😅 Saying that I'd have happily spent the week there!
One of these crashed yesterday in the Aegean during low level flight maneuvers. Both pilots died. R I P ☦
Absolutely terrible news. Thoughts are with the families, friends and squadron buddies to the two aviators that were lost. Blue skies 😔
i think that the plane that is shown in the video was the same that crashed
Not the Aegean. It was in the Ionian Sea unfortunately with loss of the crew.

Thanks a lot bud. That was a tough decision. I think the tower had potential to be awesome, but I was worried it might be difficult to shoot video there, so I sort of hedged my bets a bit. My brother was in the tower, it sounded like a cluster funk 😳

Standard ops Phil. We were with the base commander who was giving us a running commentary. They often perform touch and gos after sorties to get their skills up :D Unfortunately it got too dark to shoot the final landings booooo!

Hi just wondering if they allow spotters near the base, I know its quite restricted in Greece compared to the UK. I'm going to Zakynthos for 3 weeks and would love to go hear for a few days.
Hey man. No unfortunately not. On this trip we were on base with 338 squadron. If you try to view the jets outside you normally draw the attention of the security. A group of brits were arrested a few years ago :(

Upgraded since the year 2.000 up to the F-4E/AUP level ( with a mixed German made and Israeli made avionics as well as with upgraded smokeless J-79 engines ). Both the front as well as the rear cockpits do not remind an F-4E even at the slightest detail. The radar is the APG-65GY ( from the F/A-18A built under license by the German E.A.D.S. ) and the Integrated Mission Computer is the Israeli MMRC. In this video one can spot the Lightening-II navigation and targeting pod developped by the Israelis with the contribution of Grumman avionics.
Πρόσφατα χάσαμε δυο παληκάρια ετσι αδικα απο ένα τετοιο αεροσκάφος που όπως λέτε ολοι αναβαθμίστηκε τόσο πολύ που δεν είναι το F-4 το παλιό το εργοστασιακό κι όμως σε χαμηλή πτήση έπεσε το αεροσκάφος στη θαλασσα, αλλες ευρωπαικές χώρες το έχουν αποσύρει εντελώς,δεν μπηκαν στην διαδικασια αναβαθμισης,μηπως πρεπει να κάνουμε κι εμεις το ιδιο??? ειδικά τώρα που πήραμε Rafale κι έρχονται το 2025 και τα F-35,το F4 δεν το είχα ποτέ σε εκτίμηση ακόμη κι όταν ήμουνα μικρός τη δεκαετια του 90' και το έβλεπα στον αέρα..
Το Phantom το χρησιμοποιεί η Ιαπωνία και Νότια Κορέα! Σίγουρα κάτι θα ξέρουν και αυτοί
This was such a sad loss. I don't think the Phantom will be in service with the Hellenic Air Force much longer
