AHH im so glad you finished it! its been a long journey and incredibly well-deserved. ive followed for about a year and seeing this beauty come together has been magical. congrats! looking forward to someday being blessed to purchase a kit and start for myself.
@@requispwarship thanks for the comment. Indeed it’s been a long journey and now I don’t have a rev limit she is teaching me a few lessons. Full tap episode coming soon
Just wanted to say thank you. Your series has been an invaluable resource as I build my RS. I am only at the luggage bin stage, so I have a long way to go. My only complaint, if you could call it that, is that nothing is even close to as simple as you make it seem. I am sure you put in a lot more work than it appears, as I know I have. The amount of time I spend thinking about doing something before I even do it is crazy. Ultima provides a great product, and I am thoroughly enjoying this process, but no one should underestimate the work required to build one of these cars to a high level of quality.
Hi and great to hear you are finding my content useful for your build. My channel probably only shows 10% of the time I spend in the Dean Den building the RS. It's a RUclips thing, since long videos are not as popular, hence not promoted by the algorithms and a smaller audience. The luggage bins can be a little fiddly compared to bolting on suspension but take your time and they will come together. I remember there were a lot of rivets. :-). Don't hesitate to fire over any questions. Cheers Nigel and Rufus
@@eohmit thank you. I’m sitting here now with beer in hand in the Dean Den juts looking at the beast. Bought extra tickets for the lotto tonight, if I win I would build another, same spec :-)
So happy to see your latest video! Always a pleasure. My son and I stopped by the Ultima shop in Hinckley last month. We were able to talk to Richard (nice guy) and to see the Ultima in person and WOW,. what a machine! The quality in the the frame, new billet pieces, welds, frame and gelcoat finish was extremely impressive to say the least! Your Ultima build journey has been inspiring! Thanks!
Great to hear you went to the factory. Richard and crew are great and very welcoming. It's not until you see one of these machines up close and personal you realise how they are designed to do one thing only, and that's go fast :-)
Fantastic to see it on the road Nigel! Great to see you enjoying yourself, and see some RS road footage in high definition. Look forward to plenty more. Interesting how easy it is to set up the suspension and geometry.
More on the way and filming that road footage takes loads of effort :-). To capture the sound required investment in high-end microphones. However, noise is drama I can share on the channel. Just trying to figure out how I can relate the gut-wrenching acceleration.
My pleasure. On the beer now responding to all the comments. Breaking news: Now I'm past the 500 mile run-in mark I have opened her up and....what shell I say.... this machine is like a cross between star ship Enterprise and a velociraptor on steroids. Keep tuned, a mega episode is on its way
Thanks. I seriously want to share the experience. Now she is run in I have gone to high revs and to be honest the first pulls frightened me. The RS is a missile and gets a little getting used to, but now I'm in the zone!!!!!! Keep tuned for the 6.700rpm episode, it will be epic :-)
@@ianwoodvine5558 I must say she does scare me on full tap. I’m not worried about the car, nor my driving ability, but basic physics tells me this kind of performance is beyond comprehension.
Good to see the string box still works. Since I got a laser level (cross line thing) for DIY I've started using that instead of string for setting up both my kit cars and I've found it so much easier as you get a whole vertical plane of light to measure against rather than just the string at a single level. Looking forward to meeting the RS one day as it seems you aren't that far from my area (between Bristol and SW Cotswolds)
@@daveparry1569 haha, would love a laser alignment but demonstrating how the DIYer can build the car with basic tools. The ULTIMA does react to the smallest of changes and it’s fun adjusting something and taking her out for a drive and seeing the difference m. To be honest the roar and gut-wrenching acceleration does it for me. Rufus is next on my passenger list, keep tuned
Holy Cow, Nigel! Riding along with you in that car (on camera), I just can't get used to you guys driving on the other side of the road, and going the opposite direction! It creates such a "startle" effect for me, it just makes my hair stand up straight! What a fun video. I can feel your exhilaration driving that thing.
Saw this car when it was announced and loved it , so came across this video and dam !! an actual completed Ultima rs , congratulation's on your build. I guess you didn't opt for the LT5 supercharged to 1200 brake ? I think that accounts for the 280 mph speedo.....Now that engine would be the one for me , combined with mental restraint , Hypercar performance no doubt.....Good vid !
I'm avoiding the cost subject since my project has taken a while and prices have changed over time. However, I have driven a lot of cars way more expensive than this and they pale into insignificance.
Figured tramlining wouldn't be a major issue. Panteras are notorious for it as their caster is almost neutral. Been fantastic following the series, watching this magnificent machine come to fruition.
Absolutely awesome car shots, you’re rapidly reaching Top Gear filming standards. Now you can start to enjoy her with full beans if( and it’s a big if ) it’s even possible on normal roads ! Maybe a g-meter would show the acceleration in real time just to give some perspective as to how crazy these cars really are……
Thanks. Engine first - the LS3 is a perfect choice in my opinion. Now I can go full beans the instant throttle response form the stock engine is the most remarkable aspect of the V8. As for power output, it delivers strong and never falters. To be honest I could easily get 650bhp from the LS3 but do I want to? Probably not since she starts first time, never over-heats and has impeccable road manners. Road noise not too bad, wind noise also not too obtrusive providing you add a small length of sponge along the leading edge of the doors. You cant see it when the doors are closed but it drops wind noise by 50%
Hi and thanks for the comment. The only rattle I had was the cables which release the front clamshell. I added a couple of zip ties to secure them to the chassis and all good. I'm amazed at how few rattles and squeaks there are having been in numerous TVRs, Morgans and Astom Martins when such noises are described as authentic :-). However, when that V8 is spinning up the poetry is just astonishing.
Lovely sound. Not unlike my TVR Chimaera. But your exhaust probably cost more than I paid for the car. Still doing lots of video's on the TVR & I must look at the exhaust. MM I think the baffles are going to fall out. Great video. I am jealous. Steve.
I would agree. The TVR exhaust notes form the Grif and Chimaera are sublime and similar to the Ultima. It is probably also to do with the gearing and how quickly the engines spin up in both cars since they are very light
Thanks for the comment. My next project has yet to be agreed. To be honest after 2 and a half years of generating content has been exhausting and maybe a rest is coming but I can't avoid spannering for long :-)
Great episode Nigel, mines ready for the body pre-fit in a few weeks, quick question, when you took the wheel off, i was looking to see how you secured the brake line where it passes the shock, looks like it is a rubber lined P clip ?, looking forward to the full power episode, keep up the great work.
Hi and sorry for the delay in responding I wanted to have a close look at the RS to answer correctly. The brake lines are attached to the chassis by a simply zip tie through an eyelet welded to the chassis. A simple solution, but it works perfectly.

But, can you get through one of the many London pinch points? The DDE guys wrecked a set of wheels on their Lamborghini Aventador SVJ trying to get through one.
