Riding costal areas is hard on the bikes! I met Doc about a month ago, if he seems like a good guy in the videos, you should meet him. Honestly he is one of the nicest people I met while riding in SC. We made the treck from Ontario Canada, and because Doc has helped me out of many situations wrenching, I had to stop in and say thank you. I got some pictures with him, and a chip with his initials on it! The pic is in a frame on my shop wall with the chip in the frame! Low Country is an awesome dealer. They knew I was travelling so not spending a whole load of money, but they all took the time to be friendly! Thanks Doc! Adam
My son and myself met DOC at a Harley drag race in rockingham and even though he was busier than a one legged man in a ass kicking 🦵 contest he took time to talk and was super friendly and always responds back with any questions I send him, nice to know there are still a few people like Doc still around
Every time I watch one of your videos, I come out with knowing that there’s a lot more to m/c maintenance than I thought. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Doc, you’ve got one of the best channels around. Your tips are always quite informative and really helpful for some of us that aren’t as mechanically inclined but want to maintain our Harley in tip-top shape. Nobody wants a breakdown ever. Much appreciation for your always great tips. 😉 🤜🏼
I have a 2000 FLSTS that I discovered oil in the stator/regulator plug that was coming from the primary oil, via the wiring insulation. The insulation was wicking the oil from the primary to the internals of the plug. I replaced the stator and regulator 44k miles ago and no more problems with that! I used Cycle Electric parts.
Good one Doc! I put absorbing paper between the oil filter and the block before I unscrew it. Not much leakage there. But I certainly have to check for corrosion on the electrics. I use a bit of electrical contact spray and some silicone spray for the rubber. Thanks for the tip.
Really good info there Doc about something you just don’t think about. So great to see you working on an EVO! How about some springer adjustment tips for us old springer EVO FL and FX guys.
That was very educational........ I suppose(without going out and looking) it is similar on Sportster and Dyna models........Have to do some looking around on the V-Rod
When you said "rode hard and put up wet" you wasn't kidding.... has the owner rode that bike thru salt water and trying to catch a wave??? My goodness all the pitting on the paint/alum/chrome. Thanks for all the tips Doc!!!!!
Doyle, I was thinking the same thing. My goodness, but he must be enjoying the heck out of that bike. This is another reason to not live too close to the coast.
Hi Doc, this is one of the points I am wondering about since decates. Why does the company locate the regulator below the oilfilter and directly behind the frontwheel? From my point of view there are a lot of locations one a bike which are much more qualified ..... But never the less many thanks for every video you did. Once more greetings from Germany Harry
I hear and understand your point of view. Early years had the mechanical regulator in many places. As the charging system got stronger the regulator had to be “ in the wind” to keep it cool. So there it stays…Doc
Before you remove oil filter Punch a small hole in end of filter at 12 o’clock position Punch a 2nd hole at 6 o’clock position Oil will drain out slowly while catching most of it with rags Upper hole is the air vent Less mess on my 09 FXSTC 👍
Love watching your videos . I have a 2013 street glide. Idle's beautiful drives down the road beautiful but at a stoplight when I go to take off it will stall. Any suggestions on what to look for?
Air leaks. First look closely for a California port that has lost its cap. Next intake leaks at manifold seals near heads. Aftermarket or Harley performance air cleaner installed without removing Factory top brace. Last time fuel filter was changed? A semi clogged filter can’t flow so a lean condition can be present. Just a few thoughts
Doc, this is your newest video so far. I went through the charging system leakage but mine was due to water getting in to my '07 Ultra with a stock 103" except V&H true duals. Believe it or not, after purchasing my '07 in Oct. of '06(yes out of the crate) I've had "3" extended warranties(15 years total). It all ended March of last year. With my bike I've needed it. Mike at Las Vegas Harley has been my guru. I want more bottom end torque. When I'm loaded down with traveling gear, and the wife on board, i want to get to hiway speed before the end of the on ramp with poer to spare. Right now I get about 33mpg. Any suggestions and anybody have knowledge of a great tuner in Vegas? As always, your ARE the bikers best trusted friend.
You have the best luck! Hiro is the man to talk with. If he can go over 200 on the salt flats He can get you up the entrance ramp. Red Rock Harley-Davidson…Doc
Never understood why manufacturers put oil filters so they would drain when taking them off, Continental put in on upside down, no way to remove it without a mess.
So, Doc if you're just checking the connection should you remove the main fuse? I'm thinking yes but after all you're the Pro!! I know it's wrencher 101 lol.
Yea people that live near the ocean or salt water seem to have rough bikes if they don't really keep up with them. My buddy has used a yearly ceramic coat for years then a ceramic quick detailer throughout the year. On everything. It works really well

Of all the models from Harley-Davidson the V-Rod Stator/Regulator is not close to the oil filter🤦♂️….Doc
Well done Doc !
Great tips today Doc, thanks
good points to remember
GREAT tip Doc, thank you. Was great to meet you a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks for coming in and watching our videos👍….Doc
The early EVO Stator plug would tend to un-plug itself so Harley put a spring over the stator plug on later models.
Hi Doc. Love your information and your passion for everything Harley 👍👍
I appreciate that Paul….Doc
Thanks again.
Thanks for helping to keep us on the road, and for many years to come.

I'm putting a 32amp Spyke kit on mine at the moment.
I don't need to clean mine! In the past 10 years I have had to replace 2 regulators and 1 stator! LOL

Gear oil or syn3 in the trans and primary? The manual says either
In my opinion the new heavy primary/trans fluid offered by HD works great….Doc
Can you use electrical grease to stop the water ?
Yes….Doc
Don, I have to ask I just got a 2023 Street Glide ST, should I be worried about the oil pump failing on this bike?
No….Doc

A brake cleaner that leaves no residue….Doc

never liked where harley has their oil filter housing...not good
