    I do 18/6 and feel this is workable for me. I discovered Dr. Fung because I was diagnosed with T2D in May of 2018 and I started looking for YT videos dealing with diabetes. Of course, Dr. Fung videos showed up and his ideas were so compelling I started fasting and I am off any medications. I will stay on this for the rest of my life. I an 5'7", 155 lbs, at 68 yrs. I recommend this discipline to everyone even if they don't have a metabolic disorder. A side benefit is a lower food bill each month.

    • @Damremont18
      @Damremont18 3 года назад +1

      @@redouanekassa9453 - when I was diagnosed I was put on metformin and I remained on metformin for three months. The metformin caused loss of appetite and by August I had lost 20 lbs. I mentionned the rapid weight loss to my doctor and he gave me a different medication. The rapid weight loss appeared to have stabilized my A1C and by the beginning of September he decided, based on my blood work to stop medications. It was in autumn that I started IF. I never experienced hypoglycaemic episodes subsequent to all this though I did experience hypoglycaemia prior to my diagnosis.🙂

      @@Damremont18 thank you for your kind reply. I thing it is different for me, I lost 40 lb in the months prior to diagnosis (went from 220 to 180 lb for 5.8". Metformin doesn't lower my hapetite, and below 0.7g/l blood sugar I feel very bad and almost fall down. If I could avoid hypoglycemia, I would fast but unfortunately I couldn't. I may be missing something but I keep look for a solution that would allow me fast.

    I have ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, aphasia and dyscalculia. I was born and raised on a dairy farm and we ate 2x a day. We did barn chores which by default include daily aerobic and anaerobic exercise. I did not get special help in school. I have a bachelor degree and graduated summa cum laude. Since then I had adopted a standard American diet and I felt like crap, gained 130 lbs, tired all the time... I rediscovered intermittent fasting and feel worlds better in the 2 months I've been practicing. I have cut out most sugar, sweeteners (low calorie or otherwise), alcohol and processed carbs. I feel AMAZING! I have clarity that i haven't had sine i was a teenager. Does sugar consumption impact the manifestation of learning disorders? Because of the ADHD I have always been able to drink full caffeine coffee like water, go to bed at night and sleep like a baby. However, I started getting into the sugar (or sugar free) coffee syrups and all of a sudden I can't sleep. I would also drink soda. I think the sugar and sugar free sweeteners just wreck me.

    I LOVE IF. Even on a calorie deficit, I was never really able to loose fat, and would look more like a Skinny-fat person. I was eating 6 meals a day and getting so frustrated for years. I started IF and my hormones have switched! It's amazing when you can feel the switch happening and your energy levels go sky high. I still take in carbs after my workout and at dinner and my clothes are fitting better and I can see my love handles are disappearing.. such a stubborn area for me. BUT my weight has not changed! I lift weights and also do HIIT three times a week.

    I've watched many of his Dr. Fung's interviews and this is the best explanation as to why, even if someone restricts calories by eating only 800-1000 calories in your eating window, it is not the same thing as being calorie restricted while eating a little bit less throughout the day.

    • @nicky2coats
      @nicky2coats 5 лет назад +2

      @@hairgel5 Of course how much you eat has some effect on your weight, but Dr. Fung always says don't focus on calories. Intermittent fast and eat healthy food until you're satieted. Your body will let you know how much to eat by being satisfied or still hungry. I eat one meal a day and sometimes it's 1000 calories but usually it's 2400+ and I've lost a lot of weight and kept it off for two years without counting calories or being strict about what I eat (6 foot 34yo male 165lbs down from 212). Fasting is about insulin regulation, not quantity of food. Calorie restriction ruins your metabolism and does nothing to help insulin sensitivity. Just fast and DON'T WORRY ABOUT CALORIES.

    I find it very interesting how some people appear to believe that (intermittent) fasting is not for women. While this may be true for pregnant and breastfeeding women, I don't see why everybody else shouldn't give it a try (after all, you can stop any time you like if it doesn't suit you, right?). I've been doing LCHF, combined with intermittent fasting (one meal a day with a four-hour eating window) for three years now. It's great! Never felt better!

      I have PCOS, skipping a menstrual cycle can literally mess me up for a couple years because once it goes away I have no idea how long it will be gone for and with it comes hair fall, acne, inability to lose weight regaurdless of diet and so on SO I was SO SCARED to try intermittent fasting because of it's possible affect on my hormones, however aside from it messing with one cycle, delaying it only about 2 weeks, I've been regular and losing weight and I've been doing this about a year (on/off) I can absolutely see why a woman would be scared to try it but it's worth it if you find out that it works! I really enjoy eating this way, I don't even cut carbs but many prefer to.

As women naturally carry more fat than men, it should be just as easy for them to fast as men, also bearing in mind that women are less biologically dispensable than men, so their survival is more important. It would be illogical that nature has designed men to withstand periods of famine but not women.

      Hey Davis, I've been keto and IF for 6 weeks after a week I moved to one meal a day for 2 reasons one for the extra health benefits and two because I just don't get hungry and can't be bothered making an extra meal. I'm only on about a thousand cals a day but have a lot of weight to lose so it doesn't worry me. I'm 38lbs down in 42 days.

I love, love cinnamon with my water, to the point, that, when I break my fast after 15 or 16 hours, I rake a bite, then all I want is drink my delicious water.

      I don’t know the answer but I believe a little cinnamon sounds negligible. The bigger issue is the honey which is pure sugar, but 1tbsp per 6L doesn’t sound like much at all! I think whatever keeps you fasting - my thing is coffee with a small amount of full cream. Whatever works 👍

    • @medaho
      @medaho 7 лет назад +3

      The hormonal effect of insulin in the body is more powerful than the caloric one.
      Your weight gain or loss depends on the insulin response of the food you eat.
      As you probably know, 200 calories of celeri has nothing to do with 200 calories of cookies.
      That's why ,you have to keep in check the food that do not increase your insulin level.
      Fasting enables you to avoid increasing or producing insulin several times a day

    • @onlinename8066
      @onlinename8066 5 лет назад +2

      the thing is there is no "caloric cycle"
      if u eat the same calories in spinich as you would in a dozen donuts, your caloric intake would be the same but how your body interpret those calories is completely different.
      Dr.Fung's right. Caloric intake is a thermodynamic term implemented by physicists and not by physicians.
      it makes very little sense in a nutritional sense.
      1000 calories of donuts triggers different hormones in the body than 1000 calories of spinich.
      Dr.Fung gives a great analogy in another video:if you eat 1lb of food, do you weight 1lb more? no clearly you dont. it depends on what food you eat and how you eat it.
      calories is a byproduct of the food we eat. it's just a measure of the energy we intake but that's a very small part of the whole picture. you can't address your nutrition by measuring calories. its about food, what hormones which food triggers.

      john henry anorexic people do not want to eat ever so they barely eat every day, never being satiated and restricting everything always beyond a normal weight/body fat % causing the body to starve and be depleted of nutrition. They feel fat when they are emaciated. Anorexics keep losing weight beyond what is normal. They have a different motive and their "not eating" is a symptom of the mental disorder, it doesn't cause you to become an anorexic. Intermittant Fasting you are eating at a timed window frame fulfilling calorie needs, feeling full and satiated. Intermittant Fasting eating is because you want to for realistic health reasons, and you are in tune with your body, listening to when you should break the fast and do not feel fat when you are no longer over weight. There is a big difference!
