Today we are taking a look at how to start skating a rail for the newer skaters! Skating a flatbar is a big step up from grinding curbs or small ledges. It can feel a lot more intimidating but can also be a lot more rewarding. I go over some of the steps to get into the general feeling of getting up onto a rail and then a few of the basics for sliding and coming out. Hopefully this can help someone out there!

Glad your back man. I feel like the reason I havent skated in such a while is because, 1, florida heat is so intense, 2, because your vids are what inspire me to skate. Thanks to you I was able to learn how to kickflip last november!

Man I rarely comment but this was a very high quality video, it really speaks to a beginners mindset, he gives good tips like practicing on a curb, and he even shows attempts that look like how it would look if a beginner was trying it. Like damn good effort

Extremely instructive and helpful video. I greatly appreciate your detailed and thorough approach, breaking it down to the most basic fundamentals. I have always been moderately terrified of hitting rails, but recently picked one up in the hope of forcing myself to get past the fear and learn. This vid gives me a technique to methodically prepare until I am actually ready to attempt it and, more importantly for me, to be relatively safe while doing so. This aspect of your instruction fuels my determination and “courage” to confidently keep at it until I become sufficiently comfortable with it that the trick becomes part of my little skate bag.

Hey there @vlskate I've got a question I'm going to get my 1st board ever on Monday and I'm not sure it I should get an 8.0 or a 7.75 I've skated my friends 8.5 and my friends 7.5 the one was way to big the other was to small I am about 170cm tall I think a d have size 9 shoes I know these don't mean anything but any advice please on size I should get brand of deck, I'm thinking krooked coz of the krooked eyes deck looks neat , trucks I'm thinking Independent, spirfire wheels I'm thinking 53mm 99a, and bone reds bearings .any advice or feedback from anyone will be greatly appreciated. Had a skateboard deck except larger like a mini snowboard and 2 rolls of skate wheels bowed in the middle so that both rows of wheels looked like half of the geometric shape called an Ellipse !? PLLLEEASSE I have been looking for one for years ! Used to be in most skate shops and I'm certain I could find one if I knew what it was called ! However, despite my description being very accurate it isn't the kind of description that lends itself to a Google search.
The experience of riding one was akin to snowboarding or surfing except on the street.
