basically the 'thing' behind the door in the attic was ...radioactive. OP's real father originally went down there to check it out, and the thing killed him. The thing was able to escape and pretended to be OP's father, but because of the radiation emissions it poisoned the family, ultimately killing his mother. this part was confusing because it was not explicitly said but OP mentioned that his father died after his mother but later realised after the phone call to the realtor that the thing pretending to be his father was still alive and had visited her after the house was listed, meaning that the thing managed to escape and was also keeping an eye on the house.
OP chose to 'commit suicide' because he suffered extreme levels of radiation poisoning meaning he didnt have much longer to live, and coming in contact with anything would mean him poisoning other people.
but he kind of failed because like another comment i saw, he took a bath and then drained the water so he literally poisoned the water rip
cliffoconda yeah he doesn't seem like the sharpest tool in the shed.
So the creature took the figure of his dad... that’s so creepy. That’s why his dad was so cold and distant, it was never really his dad, his real dad was killed by the entity.

This story was amazing and originally I didn't like that there was really no supernatural being at the bottom of thst spiral, but I then realized thst the monster not being explained much, makes it so much scarier
Chase Padilla the monster left the tunnel, its out in the world. Which is weird cause he said his dad died soon after his mom

Our main character's parents have died, Mother from cancer and father who i believe is presumed dead.
Main character goes to childhood house & finds a door in the attic, Brings a friend & such to explore the tunnel.
MC makes his way further and further down the tunnel, Finally finding the final room in which it snows underground. Anyway; His dad is in this final room, dead from strangulation & having bruises from a presumed fight.
Our mc gets intense radiation poisoning; Makes his way back up the tunnel & has an epithany that his father, Who had stayed by his mother to her death, Was in fact; A monster, and not his actual dad.
The monster is now roaming free in the world, And taking on the face of his deceased father in the tunnel.
Also mc pretty much dies of radiation poisoning at the end.

I was really enjoying the story prior to the ending, but it honestly felt like the whole monster thing came out of nowhere. I know the narrator talked previously about his father behaving strangely but still, there was no buildup to the supposed creature and I thought I had really missed a chunk of story. The way it was going seemed like the story would end with finding out more about the mystery of the room itself, not just throw in a shapeshifting entity at the last minute. Also I don't remember him mentioning that they didn't have the father's body for the funeral or the body never being found? They said he was cremated like the mother. I think that there didn't even need to be a supernatural element here, the initial mystery was already so intriguing the way it was written. Though since there was, I'd say only more of a buildup was needed.

I view it as a sort of parody of similar stories. You expect a monster at the end or something scary. But instead the main character finds nothing but the corpse of his dad. Ultimately dying without achieving anything. The creepyness of the story comes from the pointlessness of it all for me.
@gytux0258 If it was set up that way, I would agree but this was not meant to be a parody. It wasn't about cliches or comedy and poking fun. The creepiness was from the initial mystery of the attic door and the curiosity of the narrator, not the pointlessness of his actions. All the buildup from the story was about the mystery and it just fell flat at the end. It's all chalked up to the writing being not so great, and as I said there didn't even need to be a supernatural entity in it. It would've been better without one. Instead, maybe him not really knowing what happened to his dad and then finding his body in the strange attic room. Or maybe the room was a delusion or part of something to do with the original owner, etc. The monster was there just so the story could have a twist ending, not because it was totally expected.

Would be interesting if the author continued this story from the protagonist's friend's point of view after this.
Ryan Z could add a twist like how he's seen the OP recently who's been acting like nothing's happened and suggest a shapeshifter has taken him over 🤔
yeah, or tries to track down the shapeshifter assuming he is still using his father's identity. Could be good if written correctly.
Ryan Z it would be very interesting if there was one more final video from another point of view but I would love to see it from the monsters point of view. Since we know that it is out there masquerading as the father and keeping an eye on that house. I would just love that.

I'm having trouble understanding the circumstances of the monster's fake death. How exactly did it manage to trick the MC, without ever letting him see his or anyone else's body? How did word of his death get out in the first place with no evidence what so ever? No funeral report, no autopsy, no public reports citing his "death". If the creature were to successfully deceive the OP, it would take a very vast amount of effort to manipulate those kinds of documents into a believable story. I feel like there's a huge gap of information that we're missing here.
The moment when the story doesn't creep you out, but instead makes you cry at the end.

There is another altogether different take on this. What he is walking into is likely radon gas, which is extremely common in old houses with bad ventilation. Radon gas comes from a outgassing of natural uranium inside of the soil. The reason why the sound doesn't travel is because radon gas is thicker than air. What's most likely is that he found some kind of weird mine shaft that was a natural uranium mine going way back, as he traveled into the radon, he suffered from acute radiation poisoning from the radon gas and uranium, and the very very small amount of oxygen in the air was slowly suffocating. I would surmise that he died from radiation poisoning, and most of what he saw was from oxygen asphyxiation and simply just imagined.
Honestly the ending wasn't as good as the last part. And confusing. I don't remember him talking about his dad being alive and I thought he died right after his mom. I didn't understand it. I'd probably have to listen to each part back to back again.
Kristina Brockington his dad is dead. Whatever was locked at the bottom of the tunnel was a monster that looks like his dad and escaped after he died
Yeah but I swore at one point he said his dad got sick and died like 2 weeks after his mom. How would his dad's body be down there if he just got sick and died where his kid would know it? How could he both have gotten sick and died where his kid knew it and been strangled by a creature in a weird tunnel thing?
At some point after they found the door as kids, their dad went down it to check it out. This is when he died. What came back up and lived with them was not their dad, but a shapeshifter that took the form of their dad. That's why it was out of his character to be so upset when finding the kids trying to open the door. The being evidently continued living with them in that form, giving their mom cancer at some point, likely because she would have been the person it spent the most time with. Once she died it probably saw that as it's chance to leave and finally be free of that tunnel, that house, and the family it had been living with. When their father "died" they didn't really see the body at any point... So, the creature could still be out in the world possibly still disguised as their father or who knows what else. Make sense now?

for me the worst offence was when they first went done the tunnel and neither of them were freaked out enough by the invisible-intangible apparent force field halfway down that stops all sound from passing between it like ........ thats not normal buddy!
DistrictIvory yeah I was thinking halfway through the first video I would throw a search party with drone, ropes, live streaming, and lanterns and at least 30 people then a few videos ago I would contacted documenty groups got funding to find a new home and had that one destroyed and dug up and found out what was going on safely
These people are always idiotic. But if they wernt stupid enough to stick out their necks then we woudlnt have stories i reckon.
Well if you remember their tests a robot wouldn't have worked at all because the force completely cuts off electronic communication and even then going a full 4 miles through dirt and stone would have cut off communication anyway. So he went there on his own to figure out the truth on his own and with what the truth was any law officials would have just cut the entire thing off at a certain point deaming it too dangerous to go further so really this was the only way for him to find out the truth in general.

There's a whole in this story. In the beginning they mentioned scattering the mother's ashes. And the brother then said that he scattered his father's as well after he died. So if the real father is dead in the tunnel, there shouldn't be a "second" imposter walking around either.

From what I remember, a man and his wife are separated. He gets to see his daughter on the weekends I believe? Either way, both he and the daughter love Halloween and spend it together every year.
