Especially here in South Africa, Load shedding is causing havoc. Thank you for the advice.

Powercuts are a pain in the ass, I get loads of them in Norway, probably one a month and its way worse in the winter.

I bet thats a massive pain in your cold weather. Do you have a generator?

@@EverydayAquarist No, we have a wood fire for heat anyway thats alaways on in the winter, shrimp dont use so much oxygen as fish so I can go for probably a week or more with a power cut before it became an issue, the main issue is filter bacteria dying.

Also there are good portable generators with solar panels that recharge big batteries :)

Those Nicrew air pumps are brilliant… I run one for a few hours in the evening in my smaller tank on a wooden air block just to micro bubble proteins out into the hang on filter… it keeps the battery efficient too. I was wondering if adding a line into your filter might keep the bacteria aerobic and alive during an outage? I wonder if anyone has tested that one as possibly viable?
    The sheds looking good…. ; )

If you're in the aquarium hobby, BE PREPARED FOR MOST INCIDENTS- because if it can ' happen; 'IT WILL HAPPEN ! KEEPING AN AQUARIUM IS NOT CHEAP.

Not without lights on, in fact most plants etc take in oxygen at night so can make it worse
