Have these been given away? Had death in family on Christmas so have been busy with family.
Thanks for all the tips brother.
Perfect timing. Lost power. And remembered I had a Battery air pump hooked to my shiner bucket
During the big freeze last year in Texas, I luckily was able to get by by wrapping both of my tanks in sleeping bags and relying on battery/USB air pumps to keep everything going. I had no losses (both of my tanks were cool-water species that normally live with my condo's room temp of 68-76 through the year), but I do worry a bit now that I have a heater for my betta in my 10 gallon. I have a smaller gas generator I have already bought since, and combining that with the 1000 watt unit would let me run the generator during the day to generate power, and use the battery for the rest of the time when dealing with the inevitable extended power outages that come with hurricanes/winter storms around here.
The sleeping bags are a great idea and I will remember it if the time comes--I have a couple of old down bags--maybe wrap with one of those emergency (silver) blankets? Without power, my house can drop to the low 30s in winter---brrrrrr. All you can do is bring snacks into bed and get under heavy blankets. ;)
I was lucky enough to manage to not lose much...we lost power for 3 days straight then it was very spotty for another 3-4 days but we have a gas stove so I heated water on the stove and kept their water in the lower 60s. Inside temps in our house got down into the 30s. My brother had a harder time because they were all electric, and were without power for longer.
The sleeping bag is a great idea. I put some items on my Christmas gift list for this purpose - battery backup air pumps, thin metallic emergency blankets, and those little pocket hand warmers. Not going to keep things super warm in an extended mid-winter outage, but would help keep things a bit better for the most sensitive fish, in smaller tanks, for shorter outages.
@@pjp9383 I would be in fear with every windstorm here, lol. I was without electricity for 10 days once, right before Xmas, everything on electric including well pump. That was years ago, but it has still kept me from starting up a tank, sadly. I do want to set up a couple smaller ones with Tanganyika shellies and julies.
@@scrubjay93 Oh dear! What about aiming for a heavily planted, lightly stocked tank, with heavily textured rock for hardscaping, so as to provide lots of surface are for beneficial bacteria? That might survive no filter better than some? I am actually really thinking about trying to go filterless in my betta tanks, after making some adjustments...
I just had five days without power here in Scotland. Three tanks full of fish saved by someone giving me hot water 4 times a day, constantly moving the water by taking it out and pouring it back in. Replacing a third of the water each time I put in hot water and then wrapping each tank in quilts and blankets. Every single fish survived!
Yes! When I have a longish power outage, I make a point of going to each tank every hour or so, scooping some of the water up and pouring it back in, for the sake of the surface agitation to get some oxygen into the water.
I would love one of these. My current back-up plan is USB air pumps and a whole lot of solar rechargeable cell phone blocks. This would make things so much easier upstairs where I have multiple tanks, one device could be powering it all and for longer periods of time versus having a whole bunch of smaller ones spread across the room that I need to swap out every day to recharge. I have been looking at the battery backup power bar type, but they don't last as long. We have a generator that will run our whole house, but sometimes the weather is so bad we can't get out to hook it up until the next day or, if the weather is really bad for an extended amount of time you can run out of fuel and can't get more for a bit or, of course, your generator dies on you when you need it most.
Either would be great, but I could definitely manage with a 1,000.
So needed that unit last winter. I’ve been looking at them for awhile. Good to actually see how well one could last. 2000 watt
I live in constant fear of my power going out. Last year, a ton of people in my area lost fish because of power being out for days. Luckily, our power was restored after a few hours. The 2000 watt would be definitely provide some much-needed peace of mind.
Being in Florida, I don’t really have to worry about freezes much, but we do have lots of storms with the random with a random tornado or hurricane that takes out power for a while.
For years I had a single 29, but now I have a couple of 75s and a 55 gal. With an additional 5 tanks (mix of 10s & 20s) a neighbor is giving me because his dad is getting too old to keep up any more. I’ve learned that Multi Tank Addiction is a real thing.
I think a 2000w would do well for that and a small fridge.
Thanks for an informative review and giving us an idea on a useful item that many hobbyists wouldn’t think about.
And a big thanks to the Okmo for making it possible.
Thank you for all that you and Lisa do for the viewers and the aquarium hobby. During Superstorm/Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, we were without power for 8 days. All my fish survived luckily but it was a major challenge coming up with creative and efficient ways to keep water warm and moving in our 6 tanks (150g, 60g cube, 55g, 55g, 20g, 10g) Again, thanks. 2,000 watt. (2000 watt)
That bichir is amazing
In light of the tragedies of extreme storms we have witnessed this week these could provide a piece of mind. A 1000 would be helpful for me as I live in rural MI. As always thanks for the constant education and sharing of your knowledge!
1,000 watt !!
I also went through the Texas freeze last year… I was able to keep my 65 gallon aquarium relatively warm by wrapping it in windshield sun blockers and a couple blankets. A battery operated air stone kept the water moving. Surprisingly, over the course of two or three days the water temperature got down to 55°F and I didn’t lose any of my tetras.
I only have four working outlets in my home. One in my master bedroom, two in the kitchen, and one in my living room. The 2000w Okmo would literally change my life and make running my aquarium a lot easier.
My power is out constantly i needed this video lol
We don't get a lot of power outages, but if we do, this would definitely be some peace of mind. I'd loe the smaller 1,000 watt one!
1000 Watt. We just moved to Florida and I hadn't even thought about purchasing backup power for the aquarium. That would be a great backup for the gas generator and it can be used indoors.
New aquarist here. Father of a 75 cichlid tank and a 40 breeder. I'm in Florida our storms are not infrequently strong. Our power goes out somewhat frequently. They usually are able to get it back on pretty quick but it's good to not rely they'll get it done fast everytime. Having a 1,000 watt running air stones would let me sleep well at night.
Damm power outages hurt!
1000 watt would probably be enough for me. I would use that combined with battery powered air pumps. I could run my sponge filters and heaters on my 4 tanks that way.
Great video.
1000 Watt!
We have a gas stove. Our power was out in winter for 12 hours. We boiled spring water and poured it into the water bottles, then floated them in the 65g freshwater tank and 24g salt tank. We used blankets on the smaller tanks. It kept them warm enough to make it through.
I would LOVE the 1,000 watt one for my tanks in case of that Midwest winter finally get the better of us. That would come in handy keeping my aquatic babies safe and the fridge and a space heater running for my baby daughter too! Love the channel guys!! 👏👏👏
What a brilliant idea, definitely worth considering
I live in Vermont and in a rural area, I've lost tons of fry and a couple of my reptiles due to this problem thanks a ton!! I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these guys now!! Love the videos keep up the great work!!
Fridge: I'm doing great!
Car: Me too!
Treadmill: Same!
Aquarium Heater: ...
DEFINITELY worth it!
2000 watt would be awesome, 1000 watt would be equally awesome. I've been considering a gas powered generator fot a few years, but one of these might be a better option. Thanks for all the great info on the channel!
I was just researching ways to help my fish survive during outages. I’m in the North East and we get pretty bad storms here. I have 5 tanks with a 6th on the way. I also live alone so no help with these things. I’d love either one! If I had to choose I’d go with the 2,000 but would be thrilled with the 1,000!! You guys are awesome for giving these away! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🥰💚❤️
I always have the option of running power from my solar panels on my rv. But the 2000 watt sure would be a nice addition to my comfort level.
1000 watt!
But I would take the 1,000 watt if you are giving me one. :). I’m moving 18 hours across country in the next few months, with 3 fish tanks, and I desperately need these.
1000 Watt!
We have a gas stove. Our power was out in winter for 12 hours. We boiled spring water and poured it into the water bottles, then floated them in the 65g freshwater tank and 24g salt tank. It kept them warm.
I really like your videos. Every time I get into a dilemma I look for your guys videos for an answer. And you’ve never let me down. Getting the power sources would be great. I live in Chicago so if I loose power in this weather I would loose all my fish. Again thanks for the information your guys offer
2,000 watt
1000 watt 🙂
1,000 watt would be such a Blessing!! Thank y'all SO much for all that y'all do!!
Wow! I would be thrilled with either unit. I am putting together my fish room now that I am retired and finally have the time. Losing power is one of my biggest fears as I currently have nothing in place for such an emergency. Thank you so much for doing these product reviews; I look forward to them to make decisions on buying items I need. Unfortunately this one would be way over my budget. Thanks again.
2000 watt
1000 watt
You must be psychic!!! Big windstorm here yesterday, so scared of an outage. Have five under 50 gallon tanks. That 1000 watt unit would set my mind at ease, big time!!!🦈❤️
Those are awesome! Definitely come in handy. Especially here where when anyone sneezes the power will go off.
After the Deep Freeze we had in Texas last year I would love the 2000W one to keep my tank warm but also be able to continuously charge things or power things without having to run a gas powered generator!
I had just moved to Texas the week before the deep freeze
We have had our power go out seven times since July. The wind and rain have been terrible this year. Having one of these units would be great to have for future outages!
I bought a Jackery 500. I'm on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, power outage is always a concern! I have 3 tanks can run it all.
I'm definitely afraid of power outages after the big freeze hit us in Texas earlier this year! Either size would give peace of mind, but bigger would allow for more options, so I'd go with the 2000 watt. Thanks for all the great content!
💙
Power after hurricanes here in Florida is a must. The 2000 watt will help many tanks with air stones and sponge filters.
I'd be grateful for either one truthfully. Power is always a worry in wisconsin winters.
Lol
The 1000 watt sounds like it could run my whole damn apartment 😂, I’d love to have that on standby for my goldfish babies
We live in Oklahoma, Tornado/High wind country which means we deal with a lot of power outages at all times of the year and can also lose power during ice storms. We try and have a plan in place for our pets during these times. The 2000 watt would give us peace of mind for our tanks, I bet the 1000 watt does a great job too! Thank you for the opportunity to try and win one of these, it would be a huge blessing!
I have a whole fish room down stairs. This would be awesome to run my linear air pump when power goes out. Especially when I live in Buffalo. The 1000 would be nice to have.
1000 watt!!! Thanks to both you and your wife for being such awesome mentors in the hobby!
Ultimately, either one would be fantastic, but I'll say the 2000. My husband and I are both fishkeepers and high school teachers. We have tanks at home and in our classrooms. We live on the coast of North Carolina, and it's typical for us to get hit with at least one hurricane each summer/fall. When Hurricane Florence came through in September of 2018, we were the first point of landfall, and our power was out for almost two weeks. Having something like this would definitely alleviate some of the stress of hurricane season. Lol.
This would be great not just for the fish tanks I have but my reptile family members also that rely on heat and stuff to also survive the 1000 watt would be great for that. May have to start saving money for one
Great information- One block from me all my neighbors have no power due to high winds here in Michigan. I really need to be prepared 👍. 1,000 watt
The 2,000 watt would be great for all the tanks that I have. It would definitely help me not stress out when the power goes out, but more importantly it would help my fish not stress out and save their lives! I love all my fish and I would be so grateful for this lifesaving device!
I live in the middle of nowhere, with 3 125g, 3 29g and a 55g, this year the power went out during a storm and it took a day for them to find the tree apparently lol all was well for just a day. I can't imagine what this winter is going to be like and at this point we have no backup plans for our gilly-beans. Obviously bigger is always better, (that's what she said) but either one would help in any case. You guys are great. My betta is doing fantastic!
1000w living in Oklahoma we have lots of severe weather that lead to power outages that sometimes last for days. Having one of these would help with stress of trying to keep my fish alive during those power outages.
One of these would be great to have on hand. I don't have a "fish room" but the 1000 watt would sure help out in an emergency.
I live in Ky and we had all those Tornado on Friday night and lost power and damage all around us. I have 2 tanks with fish and had 2 battery air pumps but I panicked because of they had no heat or running filter. Luckily they got our power back on in about 17 hours. I would love to have one of these. I want the smallest one 1,000 watt
Here in the Central Missouri. Thanks for your advice. Very much helpful.
I once had to go through 4 days of the power being out, luckily I had a batteries powered air pump that saved all a my fish, also luckily my fish were cold water so I didn’t have to stress about warmth
We have big winds out here and sometimes it definitely knocks the power out. The 1000 watt would definitely be helpful.
Neat concept. Always wanted one of these. The 2000 watt would sure come in handy during power outages.
One of these would have been great to have during the freeze this year that knocked the power out in Houston for days. Would love the 1000 Watt.
Thanks ,I love your videos!!!!! Here in Chicago we have power outages from time to time so I have a gas generator to power my four aquariums just in case, actually was considering investing in a wholehome battery backup system .... I would love the 2000 watt one
2000 watt. Power outages from storms, wind and ice, here in Texas. Have a 125 and 36 gal. tanks and have had to use the very loud generator in the past with extension cords running through the house. This is an ironic video because my wife was mentioning about a power source in case of power outage about a week ago as we go into the winter season. If I'm not home she has to get the generator going and that's not high on her list of things to do in a power failure. Great video by the way!
Have never heard of these. As I live in Florida and we get big tropical storms with power outages one of these would come in handy for sure. 2,000 watt would be great!
Sounds amazing in New England I always worry a snowstorm will knock out the power for days. A 1000 watt would do great to keep my water piggies safe.
I would love to have the 2000 watt. Living in California, we are constantly dealing with wildfires along with PG&E blackouts. My family and I just started our first aquarium and I definitely need to make sure these fish stay alive for my little guy to enjoy, especially in the time of disasters. Good luck to everyone that enters, I'm sure these generators will go to someone that needs them. Hearing your review, these sound like the real deal of back up for anything essential in the home.
A 1,000 watt would be great. We experience multiple outages during the year and this would help we keep my aquariums running and the fish safe.
2000 unit. I live full time in my rv and my power management is always something that I have to keep in mind.
1000 watt. my area gets heavy snow in the winters and storms in the summers, so I’m always running around my tanks trying to scoop water up and dump it back in just to get some movement
Here in the state of NY we never know what the weather will be anymore and I can’t tell you how many in the last 2 years I’ve lost power when I least expected too. And of course my first and main concern was my biggest tank either keeping it warm during winter or air flow in it during summer. The 1000watt would be amazing to have knowing id never have to worry when I lose power again.
Would love the 1,000 watt…I live in Austin Texas and I have 10 tanks. I am so scared that we will have another winter storm and lose power for days like we did last year. Our state doesn’t seem to be equipped to handle that kind of storm. Devastating for all the Texas fish keepers who lost their fish 😔. Thank you for all that you and Lisa do for the fish keeping community!
Love watching your channel!! I have learned so much from you and your wife on how to properly take care of my fish. Keep what your doing, and thanks for all you do for our hobby! Midwest winters can be tricky so 1000 watt.
This video is a big help. I have been wondering what to do for my fish if we get hit by power outage. We get both bad winter storms here and hurricanes, so it is a big concern of mine. The 1000 Watt is just what I need for my tank to help my community tank get through any outages.
Hello John and of course Lisa. As several of your commenters have stated, Texas went into a hard freeze with power grid outages. I would love to have the 1000 back up power unit, hopefully I won't need it for an emergency again. Thank you and Okmo for giving us the opportunity to have one.
What an incredible tool and resource for moves and outages! Would really come in handy! Thanks for the review!
1000watt just had a 5 hour outage 2 nights ago. Had a cold ice storm and wasn't sure how long it was going to last. Lucky enough all 4 of my tanks are doing well after a water change.
1000 watt.
Power outages here are rare as in the area I am in , all lines are underground (no poles to go down). In the event of an outage , my gas boiler (old house) uses a millivolt thermostat that does not use electric and thus the heat still works. Tanks are not overstocked , so no worries
1000 watt.
I haven’t kept fish in twenty years. My wife wanted a Betta and we stumbled across your channel. Great content and fond memories of when I too kept Peacock cichlids 😊
Keep up the great work, practical info, and inspiring new people into the hobby and those who are catching up after a long hiatus 😊
We don't get a lot of power outages, but having one of these would make me feel much better. Thanks for the chance to win. I would chose the 1000 watt one.
1000 watt. Back in March my home was severely damaged by a tornado and because we were without power i was afraid of losing all my fish. (120g, 60g, and 3 20g long) luckily a local fish store took all of our fish and none died, but it was close. Because of storm damage we ended up losing all our aquariums. After 9 months of rebuilding we are back home and just got a 75g to start back fish keeping. I worry about another storm and losing power for an extended period and this would be huge to help protect our fish.
The 1000 w would come in very handy. I have spawns of betta babies during the year and had few time came close to losing a spawn over power outages. So 1000 w love that size.
Living in Minnesota, we deal with outages year round. Between the severe thunderstorms in the Spring through Fall, and the ice storms and heavy snowfall. We have four to six outages a year. I have eighteen tanks going in two rooms in our basement so it would be great to get either, but I feel the 2000 watt unit would easily cover all of the tanks and would help minimize if not eliminate any losses of fish that we have had in past outages. Thank you for your reviews. - Brent
Winter is around the corner and I would definitely need one of these. The 1000 watt would be enough for my needs. Thanks for the opportunity
1,000 watt!! 💜 you could definitely plug in a Linear airr pump and a space heater for the room, and be golden for quite a while!
Living in New Orleans, aka hurricane country, either one of these would be great. Won't protect on the 7-14 day outages, of course, but may buy enough time to take other measures. And would be perfect for the 4-6 hour regular power outages.
I got a Goal Zero Yeti 1000 watt with the Boulder 200-Watt solar charger. The solar charger recharges faster than a wall outlet on a sunny day! The solar charger chord is short, so I got extension chord so the charger can be outside and the battery in my fish room. Yes expensive and like the insurance policy I hope I never need, but glad that I have it.
1000 watt!!!! The power outage in Oklahoma last year was a nightmare!!!
I am currently dealing with a power outage dues to the tornado that hit my town of Mayfield and leaned the hard way that I need 2 backup plans. Luckily I was able to get another generator but that 2000 watt would have come in real handy!
Literally had a power outage yesterday from wind, thankfully only for a couple hours, but I'd love to have the 1000 watt one for peace of mind
I would love the 1000 watt. Our electricity recently went out due to a down power line. It stayed out for 3 hours. I was a nervous wreck. This would definitely give me peace of mind. I love all my fish kids.
As a Maryland native I’d love to see a video on good native aquarium fish
I will definitely be looking into these! The 1000 watt looks perfect!
Wow these are awesome. Live in Michigan and had a power outage a couple of weeks ago. Totally scared me because I didn't know when power would come back up. Fortunately only lasted a few hours, but we had friends down for days. I started looking for solutions and you have it!!! I would love to win a 2,000 watt unit, but will be planning on purchasing one anyhow.
I'd love to have either, but with multiple large tanks in different parts of our home, the 2000 watt would be the one to shoot for.
I would love one of these!! This is perfect timing for this video after the major tornados that hit my state (Kentucky) and many others. I have 30 tanks running and working on the conversion if our garage into a fish room! A generator is going to be a must to protect not only our investment, but our "babies." Either would be great, but 2000 watt would be awesome!! BTW it was awesome meeting you and Lisa in Chicago!
The 2000w would be perfect for my area. Thanks for the TONS of videos that you and Lisa have put out there. You're my 1st stop when researching something.
