I’m colorblind. Saw this film in the theater and again my senior year of high school. It wasn’t till then I realized what Spielberg had done. Someone in class said something about “it’s the red dress!” Had no idea. It’s brilliant. Film making.
"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic": Stalin. A little girl in red lets us identify one person in the sea of horror, one death that is meant to hit us harder than the millions.
Good use of red. Focus on a child and Hope they survive. Only to find them dead as just another one being disposed of. Good way to make one think more than just numbers but for the child and their family.
If it makes anyone feel better, the little girl survived in real life. Her name was Roma Ligocka and she and her mother escaped from the Kracow ghetto and hid with some Polish friends during the war.
@@bolo34lxI disagree. The whole point of acting is to become something that you’re not, and to give the audience art, and whoever does those things the best, should be awarded, otherwise what’s the point of having awards in the first place?🤷♂️ Ralph should’ve won an Oscar for this movie.
13:30 First, this is a very good choice of a clip to use. Thank you. Specifically, I like EOM Reacts, and that is the most wide-eyed reaction I've ever seen of his, and even with him remaining quiet, his dog could tell how upset he was getting to the point he kept having to reassure it.
And to think,Himmler’s (considered the “architect” of the holocaust) daughter, who died in 2018,defended her father and the Nazi ideology her whole life. The atrocities were horrific!
Choosing to show the girl in color was a brilliant idea. Because all the fear you have for that child and what is to become of her is left unresolved for the moment. It festers in the viewer's mind. An unsettling feeling lurking just below the surface. When the red jacket is shown again later in the movie all the horrible things the viewer felt earlier in the film come rushing back many times stronger😢
I saw this movie in 1993 when it first came out and this scene thill this day brings tears to my eyes and anger at how people can give themselves to this type of mindless hatred and brutality. Racism is a cancer that destroys the soul.
For those who haven't seen the movie. This scene they are reacting to is in a town where they had a jewish town area set up to contain the remaining towns jewish population of about 4000? people. All the others before this had been shipped out to other concentration or death camps. So only about 4000 were left. The german leadership here then finally cleared out the rest of the population, half were killed in the streets who were considered useless, while the other half were sent to a labor camp. These scenes were the "final liquidation" of the jewish population in the town.
this movie is a must watch for every single person around the world. especially people who said that wearing a face mask to protect those around you & yourself was the same as what nazis did. THIS is what nazis did. They idiots should be forced to watch this to see what they are saying is so wrong. i remember when this movie came out when the show ended when leaving the theatre no one said a word to each or others. that's the impact this movie has. the true horrors of war
Right, the Nazi's also forced the Jews to wear Star of David armbands. In the beginning. When government mandates you wear anything, it is the start of something not so good. And it also turned out wearing masks was useless.
By the time I first saw this movie, I'd seen the Lawrence Olivier-narrated series The World At War, which is fantastic and really opened my eyes as a very young kid about what actually happened there. It had a profound effect on me growing up so I've never had any tolerance for bigotry, regardless of the excuse. I don't care if certainly people don't live like I do. Who made me right about everything? But when I saw this movie, it had an even greater effect on me. The film is arguably the greatest I've ever seen. If anything, they go easy on the story because the audience would probably have psychological issues coming out of it, if they didn't already.
What would be really powerful is to show the end when it switches to color to show the real life Schindler's Jews he saved and them placing the stones on his grave with the actors
Here's the thing, the lesson of history that must must be learned. A study was done. The researchers expected to find that the people who have complied with evil, malicious dictatorial tyranny were coerced, were threatened into it in some way. What they found was the opposite. They found in these situations, regular people will very often-very often-enthusiastically turn on their neighbors and families. We must be very rationally, morally, emotionally vigilant and attentive to what's really going on. Not what media says is going on. Not what political pundits say. What's really going on.
What this scene was based on was Oscar saw this little girl walking down the street wearing that bright red coat and that is all he was focused on. In real life she actually did survive unlike in the movie where she died
Had the absolute honor and privilege to meet 2 holocaust survivors...incredible, beautiful, and such amazing human beings. I'll forever cherish meeting them. I do not recall their names sadly, its been so long.

And just an fyi when the kids on campuses and around the coutry protest on the side of hamas and palestine screaming intifada this is what they want of jews again.
Bullshit. You have no way to peer into the souls of other people and recognize which ones are racists and which ones are outraged at all the deaths of Palestinian children who had nothing to do with Hamas and their atrocities. Those who live by the sword will die by the sword. It's amazing how many supposed Christians take the Christ right out of their lives and insert Old Testament retribution, which Jesus came to change.
How long until future generations are watching Movies of World War III... why will Humanity never learn from the Past? 2024 and there's still so much Violence and Fighting in the World. When Is Enough Gonna Finally Be Enough...
The sad part about this is that hatred of Jews is still here. By what did Hamas in Israel and lately in Canada a Jewish reporter was arrested asking questions at a Hamas rally. The Canadian cops said he was making the protesters uneasy.
This hatred still exists among some people in this world, I've never understood why, but the situation in Gaza is excellent fuel for this hatred, even among those who weren't before. What is currently happening in Gaza, which could initially be justified after the barbaric Hamas murder of civilians, has become an unjustifiable massacre of other civilians by the Israeli army.
