I've always thought that it was interesting that the 2 guys who made it through the mission to the end were Reiben, who was vocally against the mission right from the beginning and throughout. And Upham, who was scared stiff when it came to combat. Great choices in my opinion.
I was born in 1954 and grew up in a neighborhood of families that lived on two cul-de-sac s. The friends I made there were my heart friends. But now I get some idea of why my little friends Dads(WWII vet’s)were all such quiet, serious men…the things they must have see;the memories that haunted them. I know one who never ate pork again, because he had seen hogs in Europe feeding on soldiers corpses. They left home as kids, young men,and came home having seen things that changed them forever. Now I understand why some turned to alcohol, but, mostly…they were all just so “quiet”. I know this was just a movie, but the veterans who saw it said it was the most realistic portrayal of the horror of war that they had ever seen. So the faces of my childhood friends’ fathers all come to mind each time I see this movie. I feel sad that I didn’t know how many heroes there were among my neighbors until I read about some of their experiences in their obituaries. But I can,and do,show my appreciation by honoring all veterans of all conflicts that still breathe and struggle. Movies like this are so important! “Lest we forget.”
Everyone Older James Ryan was played by actor named Harrison Young, older gentleman visiting Captain Miller's gravesite. Harrison Young did serve in the military during Korean War.
Jeremy Davies absolutely kills this scene. When he looked up after standing over the guy he shot, the understanding, then the malice in his eyes seems very real indeed.
A good reminder what fighting for freedom actually is. And to think people walk among us who claimed their freedoms were lost in refusing, for example, to wear a mask or get a vaccine during a gloabal healthcare crisis. Remarkable what social media and smartphones have done to people.
Yes. P-51's were used to strafe and hit ground targets. But, that was usually the P-47's role. The "tank buster" they show in this scene was never there in reality. That P-51 is Col. Landers' "Big Beautiful Doll". 357 FG. It was a very pretty and flamboyant paint livery so thats probably why Spielberg used it. If my memory serves me, this paint scheme wasn't on his plane yet in june of 44 either but I may be wrong. Col. Landers was NOT assigned as a tank buster, ever. He was a fighter pilot only. Scored air victories in both the Japan and Europe theaters. When they fly past the second time, you can clearly see the checkerboard nose and name on the side. Oh...I'm such a goofy, WW2 nerd I can tell you that tank is a old soviet T-34 dressed up as Tiger tank. They did a good job on it, but not "that" good! :)
My grandfather was in WW1. He became a drunk and ahcolic. Went on a train ride, Talking to my grandfather who in 95. In WW1 they had to stand on bodies to keep there feet dry. Tried to ask about WW2.
The chances in ww2 of surviving a lung shot from a rifle would have been slim and none. It would be many days before he could reach a hospital. A treage or aid station would not have been able to save him. It's amazing to me how clueless the general public is about firearm wounds and how long it actually takes to get help on the battlefield.
I've seen many reactions to this movie, and have heard more than one person say that...WTH is wrong with people? He will spend the rest of his life earning it. Live for those who didn't... He's only BEGINNING to earn it.
You mean she didn't support the guy who is destroying our democracy and turning this country into a totalitarian dictatorship? The guy who is putting together the most ridiculous and dangerous cabinet of all time? How horrible she must be!

My great uncle was on Omaha beach, I think, according to my dad. Tom never talked about it

Saving Private Ryan also meant providing opportunities for future generations of the Ryan family as we saw in the beginning of the film

They were....that was tyranny bro....a scam for control and money.

Hey I just spent the last 2 hours watching a film that apparently flew right over my head.

Everyone should remember these words " we must never ever forget "
It's so good to see Eralia get attention, and I hope she does a lot more movies. Great video, man.

First time I saw this movie I just pissed so many tears from my eye holes
This movie still makes water leak out of my face.
"earn what?"
how do you miss that entire point. c'mon people.
Am I slightly annoyed they used P-51s instead of P-46s? Yes. Does it ruin the emotional moment? No.
P-47s* my mistake
Angels on our shoulders 👼

Why would the general public have that knowledge?
Why not? A lot of it is common sense.
Pfft. Earn what? He stayed when he could have left. He gave them an out. He already fuckin earned it standing by his brothers!

Is it ironic that women are emotional seeing things that men do , but then expect them to make 6 figures lol
Commentary from "those" that have never experienced or will never experience this type situation need to STFU.... Otherwise 😢
Que reacciones más malas 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Colette Cherry 🍒 Because You Did Not Finished The Returns Of The King 👑 it's too late 🥺
That chick on the right, in the last reaction, clearly supported Kamala Harris.
You mean she didn't support the guy who is destroying our democracy and turning this country into a totalitarian dictatorship? The guy who is putting together the most ridiculous and dangerous cabinet of all time? How horrible she must be!
And your point is?
What kind of a weirdo are you bruh?
