First time I saw this I was flabbergasted. The original ending was supposed to be they just arrested John Doe but Brad Pitt insisted on shooting him, glad he did. One of the best endings to a movie I ever seen. (well, not the best, but you know) Perfectly executed.
Yep. Perfect portrayal of a "damned if you do damned if you don't" situation. Still, I cannot fathom how anyone - not even the most tender butterfly in the world - could NOT shoot him at that moment. That's John Doe's diabolical genius after all - he knew his "win" was the only outcome. Had they filmed the original ending, Se7en just might have become another semi-remembered mediocre film starring wasted talent.
@@JacoWium Nah. This is definitely the superior ending, but the movie is great regardless. And wasted talent? You’re talking about three of the most celebrated actors ever, even though Spacey is now persona non grata.
The fact that the phrase, "What's in the box?", is now synonymous with shock and horror is a testament to the power of great filmmaking. Yeah, this one shook me at the theater. The moment it started I knew I was in for a ride.👍🏽👍🏽
This ending was considered to be a "bad" ending to a film (a poll from either Total Film or Empire Magazine in the 90s) which has been completely shot down (no pun intended). For me it's one of the best in film history and these reactions back that up.
@@DW.Strangeman There’s no way any sane person said this was a bad ending. Maybe they meant endings where the bad guy wins, or disturbing endings. Spacey is involved in two of the greatest endings to movies in history. This and The Usual Suspects are top five endings of all time.
I think it’s what jars him into sticking around. Mills challenged him into not being so cynical and bleak, and seeing Mills destroyed in front of him showed him just how important it was to keep going.
One of the best endings to a movie. Not many movies end where the bad guy actually wins and this movie executed it perfectly. The music, the split second of the image of Tracy, to Mills killing John Doe. From beginning to end this movie was great.
I've always thought another interesting twist ending would have been if right after Sommeset says, "If you kill him, he will win", David turns the gun onto himself and kills himself, keeping John from winning
Obviously not a newsflash that here you have 3 of the finest actors alive. But where Brad Pitt went to find Mills in this scene, to me, is unreal. The little extra he gives once he learns Tracy was pregnant makes this a knee buckler of a scene for me. Instant tears. This scene still shakes me to my core today. Fincher really put that work in on this film.
First time i saw this movie i downloaded it off of Limewire back in 2003. Pretty sure i got some viruses but it was worth it. This movie is in my top 5 of all time. Best true crime movie. Followed up by The Bone Collector. A reaction compilation of The Bone Collector would be awesome man. Love the content. Sidenote: I think it would be awesome to do a compilation video for every sin.
A suggestion for you, my friend: the movie is Mystic River, the scene when Sean Penn's character finds out his daughter is dead. That's a powerful one.
Jay is one of the best reaction channels. The funny thing is, in dramas, he tends to support the hero because of how screwed up the villains are. In slashers or horror movies, he is firmly on the side of the killer for putting in all the hard work.
I'm pretty sure that the main actors making this film knew during filming that this was going to be good. They have made many movies, but I think even for them, this one was memorable for them.

There were storyboards drawn up that have Summerset shooting John Doe to save David from becoming the final sin.
Actually, they wanted Somerset to kill him instead of Mills, since he was retiring anyway, to save Mills from killing Doe.

Next time you see Brad in the airport say that to him. He loves it!

What's in the bOOOOxxx!!!!!
One of the greatest twists in cinema. No one forgets when they first saw this movie, such a masterpiece.
Fun Fact: David Fincher really wanted Denzel Washington for that role. He turned it down. He said that's the biggest regret of his life.
Whats funny to me is I always thought he tried to make up for by starring in dark gritty psychological cop thrillers like Fallen and Bone Collector 😂
I love how Morgan Freeman is so calm at all the crime scenes you think nothing would phase him, until now
I think it’s what jars him into sticking around. Mills challenged him into not being so cynical and bleak, and seeing Mills destroyed in front of him showed him just how important it was to keep going.
Faze, not phase.

He decided that it wasn’t about his own happiness, if he could stay and prevent these kind of things from happening.
That's how you know Doe won.

No joke, “John Doe has the upper hand!” was such a quote between my brother and his now wife, they worked it into their wedding vows.
nah cause you gotta elaborate on that one brother
I've always thought another interesting twist ending would have been if right after Sommeset says, "If you kill him, he will win", David turns the gun onto himself and kills himself, keeping John from winning
EOM as detective Mills:
“ hey!! Shoot this MFr right here and now. Empty the clip!” 😂😂👍
'EOM Reacts' is hilarious - "Empty the clip!" 😂
5:30 she understood nothing🥲

I agree with the complication of every sin, epic.
One of the absolute best movies ever made. Side note, EOM reaction was HILARIOUS.
A suggestion for you, my friend: the movie is Mystic River, the scene when Sean Penn's character finds out his daughter is dead. That's a powerful one.
I would love to see a mashup of that. One of my favorite movies of all time. I’m not sure enough people have reacted to it tho, which is a shame
@ agreed. I've only seen a handful of reactions.
Mystic river is a gut wrenching movie.
It's amazing to me how many viewers physically flinch from the gunshot even though I think we pretty much all know it's coming.
My friends and I needed a Friends marathon after watching this 😢
Three great actors in one of the best scenes in cinema.
Look, if i'm on the jury for Mills, he gets temporary insanity and set free. Or at least a mistrial.
Alyska nearly falling out of her chair was great!
The "I tried to taste the simple life" conjures so many possibilities on what Doe did to her.
Please, seriously, I beg all of you: don't let Hollywood try to do a remake or reboot of this. NEVER.
The greatest movie EVER!
A few other movies to compile with similar consequences are probably Fallen, The Devil's Advocate, and Angel Heart.
Seven is a sequel to the Usual Suspects and you'll never convince me otherwise.
I buy it
Ya, no..
Not really but I do get the logic.
25 mins in... 'Empty The Clip!' 😂
Jay is one of the best reaction channels.

The score and the build up of driving to the desert made the climax of this movie so tense.
Please do John Doe's speech in the car, I love that scene
Next do SLOTH coughing
5:30 can almost see the smoke coming out of her ears.
I’d love to write a sequel where Mills is let out and kills based on the Ten Commandments. The title would just be Ten
I'm pretty sure that the main actors making this film knew during filming that this was going to be good. They have made many movies, but I think even for them, this one was memorable for them.
I love how none of them watched this EXTREMELY famous movie in their whole lives. And 200 other movies like this one.
That was a crazy twist back in 1995.
If ever there was a case for temporary insanity, this is it.
3rd couple:
Girl: What was Tracy's sin?
Boy: Who"s Tracy?
LOL
Freeman's character might have chosen to stand in front of John Doe, forcing his partner to go through him to take his vengeance.
Great choice, let's go!
This twist is so sick i almost throw up when i watched it my first time.
Brat playing in this scene very funny 😂
You can Google head in a box movie list. Barton Fink has that in it even though it never shows the box being opened.
It's funny how when he opens the box, everyone watching asks "what's in the box?" 😂
No jury would contact him. I would not.
Amazing movie.
I like the third optional ending that was story boarded but not shot. In this one, Somerset shot John so Mills didn't to keep John from winning.
der beste film aller zeiten, wer ihn nicht kennt schaut ihn euch an, danach wisst ihr was ich meine, denn zum ersten mal...... oh zuviel verraten,,, schaut ihn euch an
The movie where the villain wins
David was destroyed no matter what he did.
Such a good twist!
At least cops have qualified immunity in America, so it's all good! /s
Found the liberal idiot who hates cops but is cool with crime!
David finchers best movie
I assure you,
in that situation,
I am WRATH.
Proudly WRATH, indeed.
I don't think John Doe won because David didn't kill himself. Wrath was left alive. I was actually expecting David to kill himself when I first saw the movie.
Lol John Doe literally says that he "envies" David and then literally tells David to become "wrath."
@@mikeyt3784 You are correct. My point was John Doe doesn't win because Wrath says alive.
Poor Jen, so sorry.
Instead of the single frame of her face in that pivotal moment there's a single certain frame from Fight Club...
As a husband and father, sometimes you just gotta take the L.
Ash...is...annoying
I thought he was going to kill himself too
❤
All this for what?
What could he possibly hope to gain?
Great story, and great cinema.
Everyone would shoot him.. if you think you wouldn't have, you would have shot him before he even told you about the baby..
WTF?? Do people not watch movies anymore?? How the fuck have nine of these people not seen this ?? It’s 30 years old for Christ sake. 🤦♂️.
All these over exaggerated responses. Had to be a joke. People don’t act like this
As far as I'm concerned, John Doe was a pioneer for women's reproductive rights!!
