      @solreaver83 If that degree was 1, then sure. For WoT, the Steam Charts claim ~8k concurrent plyers, but in reality it's more like 210k (EU only).
      Going by this ratio, I'd estimate that WoWp has around 2500 concurrent players. Not great, but also not terrible.

    • @gnaruto7769
      @gnaruto7769 4 дня назад +55

      The difference in player toxicity for war thunder players is really interesting how it usually develops by playtime:
      0-100 hours, player is bad
      100-500 player is bad and toxic
      500-750 player gets better and stays toxic
      750-1000 player gets good but stays toxic
      1000+ player is no longer toxic, the snail must be fed and arguments take energy that could be spent on grinding

    I'm so happy to see one of my favorite wt youtubers giving wowp a go! here's some observations about things you may have asked:
    - no, wowp doesn't have air-to-air missiles, but some planes carry air-to-air rockets
    -the "neutral planes" are air defense aircraft. you must either destroy them or ground targets to cap
    -you can respawn as many times as you want, as long as it's not during the "heavy weather" you commented about in the last game
    -low tier is really easy to grind, so most human players are mostly stuck in higher tiers.
    -you can see if a player is a human by right clicking their name in the scoreboard. an option to add as a friend and see their profile will appear if it's a human
    -you can equip consumables in the "service" tab.
    It may be a distant dream but i would love to play some matches in a squad with you, if you want to learn more.

  • @kspectre21
    @kspectre21 4 дня назад +39

    Sniper Mode is just extra zoom to see stuff better, your guns basically have auto-tracking when you have an enemy in your cursor so you don't need to do any proper leading.
    The Consumables in this game are extremely hidden, they're on the right hand side of the screen at the bottom of the info panel when you've selected a plane in the hanger. Ammo Belts are actually a consumable in this game but it's just a flat buff to your Crit and Fire chance so there's no real choices to be made.
    The Grey/White AI will attack you if you enter the area they're defending, you kill them to capture hat sector and start earning points. There's a few different ones like Factories, Radar Stations and Missile Sites which need bombers or ground attackers to capture fully by destroying AA emplacements and buildings. Factories give you a lot of points, Radar Stations call in bombers to attack enemy Caps and Missile Sites periodically launch a V2 Rocket at enemy Caps. There's also Airfields which can act as an extra respawn point or a place to heal depending on map.
    No ammo but guns overheat, the MGs not so much but cannons can overheat very quickly. Also no Air to Air missiles in this game, only rockets and bombs as loadout options.
    You can get Crits but nothing that insta-kills an enemy like a pilot snipe. You get engine, wing, airframe damage and pilot injuries which decrease performance and then you can set fires which just deal damage. If you hover your cursor over an enemy then you'll see some icons next to their name if they have Crits.
    Also there are respawns if you die but near the end of the match there's a storm which prevents them. It's basically just to give the team losing on points a chance to win Deathmatch style. Unfortunately there is no actual weather changes and this is just a mechanic that happens at the end of every match.
    It's a hell of a lot more chilled than WoT due to the smaller playerbase though, mostly bot matches which means it's pretty easy to just mindlessly grind. Even at Tier 10 you'll find mostly bot lobbies with full rewards. The players that do remain though tend to be very good and have pretty maxed builds with full equipment and premium consumables.
    The biggest draw to this game is just all the very unique and funky aircraft, the Americans get the XF5U Flying Pancake as a Tier 8 Heavy Fighter for example and it's tons of fun to flyout. The Grind does take a while though despite all the AI stomping you do.

    i think one of the core reasons "realistic" games appeals to people is the knowledge transfer -- that what you read or heard about a vehicle or gun etc in a book or show can be borne out by your own experiences ingame. thats why we have people on forums complaining if their war thunder fight experience doesnt seem to match their expectation ("why is my king tiger not invincible" sort of stuff). world of warplanes for better or worse puts its own brand of gameplay first. the roles matter much more than the nuances of individual plane performance. in fact, the planes more or less just feel like skins. the upside is that it creates a more coherent gamemode experience, but the downside is that for airplane enthusiasts, it comes at the cost of the original fantasy of why we want to experience the planes at all. this model is obviously less of an issue for people who know almost nothing about airplanes and so wouldnt have specific fantasies for particular airplanes, but the issue i think is that airplanes are already something so alien to most people that there are relatively fewer people who would stop at being merely "casually interested".

The gamemode it's just soooooooo much better that in WT. I love playing bombers in this game something that is so tedious in WT

      I do find playing bombers is more fun in World of Warplanes than war thunder. Though I do like playing attack aircraft in war thunder and those feel a lot similar to the bombers in World of Warplanes in many respects. And I do agree that the maps are pretty in WoW. That is something they manage quite well in their games. The look of the maps. And in WoW I never really feel like I am getting a terrible map. That sometimes happens in War Thunder.
      One can have fun in both games. Of course, WoW is a bit more arcade like. Even compared to playing Arcade in War Thunder. I prefer War Thunder overall. But WoW have some good thing to it.

    @Tim’s Variety I initially tried out this game during its closed alpha, when there was fierce competition between this game and World of Planes (which would be renamed into War Thunder).
    The alpha gameplay was a lot different to what it is now: AI largely didn’t exist, nor did 2+-seater aircraft types. Gameplay was a lot closer to World of Tanks, and you could critical things like tails or wings to destroy an enemy faster than their HP bar, but still nothing like instantly destroying a plane by pilot snipes or the like.
    At that time I was playing both this and War Thunder side-by-side, but ultimately I went with War Thunder due to the higher fidelity flight models.
    I picked this game back up a couple years ago to see what became of it, and saw it had become largely what you have reported here. It is fairly chill; you can mindlessly fly around and kill things in a way that isn’t possible in War Thunder due to infinite spawns (on a timer) compared to the ticket system or one-life systems that War Thunder uses.
    I doubt I will really actually go back for anything besides occasional nostaglia hits.

You can use free experience to add to the exp of a module or tank/plane to get it a bit quicker. Free EXP can be used anywhere any nation. So you could play Russiani planes and use free exp on british planes and get a top tier plane without ever playing a single game in that nation... Technically.

    The "weather" stuff you're talking about is the Squall Line. There is not actual changing weather in WoWP. It's an excuse for the game to stop respawns. Basically if you die you can respawn (if you have an airfield conquered you can even change plane) but when the squall line arrives everyone loses the ability to respawn. So you can either win by ressources or by killing everyone once the squall line has arrived.

    wowp is pure pain below tier 5. from tier 5 and up the game experience is much better
    if you ever come back to playing wowp, here are a few tips: pressing s will slow you down, useful for turning in a smaller circle. also, in the top right corner of the screen, under the planes stats there is the pilot. you can level him up to get skill points to invest. the equipment and consumable menu is also right there.
    also, the storm in the battles indicate that you can no longer respawn. after the storm prevents that, you die permanently
    and its always worth investing 100k to get a 75% trained pilot. and you can do a life hack: if you train a pilot to, idk, 1 skill you choose, you can put him in a new plane and train him further. what i do when buying a new plane i dont plan to use for long, is not getting a pilot, but putting a pilot i already have in it, retrain him for the new plane for 100k, grind the modules and the extra progression on it to get the specialist configuration, sell the plane and go onto the next one, and repeat. this way as you progress and put the pilot into different planes and constantly retraining him, by tier 10 youll get a pretty good pilot
    unfortunately there are too few players at any time for a full battle. its always nice to see someone try the game out, i hope one day the game will grow enough tho have more players in the future

Some guns have reloading times even bombs, but you will always get more. ...and crit hits are a thing, yes. not sure about a pilot snipe, but I think that is a yes, or you injure them, and they lose skills while injured.

    I hope that we see some of the wacky paper and prototype planes like the Mirage G, Kingston P.1214 (Really go look that one up it looks like a star wars fighter), Ba 349 Natter, Triebflugel, McDonnel Model 60, Su-47 etc. in warthunder.
    It is a video game where Israeli Magachs can fight with German Maus tanks alongside soviet IS-3 and supported by a SU-8. The game already has unrealistic elements and things, why not embrace it. Plus this would make the tech trees more unique, as a counter to all the copy and paste tanks and planes that are flooding events and the tech trees.
    Think about it, the US didn't even use the RAH-66 after testing. They also didn't use the P-400, yet that is in the tech tree. The US never fielded the HSTV-L, or the 120S, or the MBT-70. Yet all of those are in the tech tree. Now all of those were built, and so was the RAH-66, but why should it stop at just prototypes? Not saying to go all in on them, but when Gaijin is planning to just copy paste something from the US, Soviets, or wherever, I think they should look more at Prototypes or Paper vehicles to add some spice and to really help make these tech trees unique. Doesn't even have to stop at vehicles, many nations have experimented with various missiles, rockets, and other munitions that would never see service.

      @vertik7 День назад

      @@timsvarietygaming Here, in WoWP it's average. Since WoWP 2.0 came out, I-16 became a multi-role with rockets and was nerfed. But still, I-16 early has powerful guns, but no flaps, many planes are more maneuverable and faster. So, at tier 3, I like Ki-27 and F3F. But tier 3 is not that good, cause you can't get tokens for medals there, so people usually move to tier 4, and at tier 4, I-17 is a better plane (a prototype) than I-16 late. And tokens are important, even premium account and hangar slots can be bought with them.

  • @Thekilleroftanks
    @Thekilleroftanks 13 часов назад

    hey tim almost forgot you can likely get a press account from wargaming (might need to email them) this pretty much completes the game for you for 30 days or so, everything is unlocked, purchased and all of the crew maxed out with an insane amount of gold and credits as well. might be something to look into so you can test out the more unknown aircrafts like the f94
    as for the ammo it is unlimited however the higher you go up weapons start having cooldowns, so the bigger and better a gun is, the less time you got until you hit the cooldown clock, thats where the skill enters the game, youre trying to track the target as best as you can while using your ammo as efficiently as possible. after all this is an arcade game and it would suck completely to run out of ammo midway through a fight and needing to flee. infact it also sucks in wt as well.

    • @TimsVariety

    • @Thekilleroftanks
      @Thekilleroftanks Час назад

      @TimsVariety they might, wargaming is pretty lax and open with their press accounts. Think Russian badger got a press account with wot and he only made two videos that were like 3 years apart. For wargaming a press account doesn't require anything from them and only brings people towards their games. So even if they see something a little as 10 people that's 10 more then they would've seen if they didn't give you the press account

Coming from someone with no experience to the game, when I first played it I had no idea what I was doing because there is basicaly no tutorial when it comes to interface or actually learning how to be a good player. Some major figures in the WoT community, as I have come to figure out, agree with me.

    WoWP is very fun game. The interface is easy, people already explained here, that Service tab is important - you add consumables (fire extinguisher, different ammo - universal, gold they do more damage and/or fire chance) and equipment (better boost, speed, maneuverability) there. Upgrade tab - to research plane modules to upgrade a plane modules (guns, engines, airframe) and to progress to the next plane. Paint Shop - to paint your plane, paint has affect on the plane - it's not a cosmetic thing, it can reduce the damage of the enemy, made you less detectable or faster. Crew - a pilot with 100% and many skills is really important, there are premium pilots exist. Zoom does not affect damage, but makes easier to aim, and there are critical hits. There are unlimited ammo, but guns can overheat, the bigger the gun - the faster the overheat. Squall Line has nothing to do with weather - just no re-spawning anymore, the game is ending. There are no guided missiles in WoWP, some planes like F-94D and BVP210 have lots of small unguided Air to Air missiles. Other planes (like P-47s, I-16 or F4U Corsairs) have Air to Ground missiles, but it's possible to hit planes with them with some skills. To get a jet plane fast, buy a Gloster Meteor tier 7 (or other more expensive premium planes, like Me-109TL or P80 in tier 8) for gold or real money. De Havilland Vampire tier 8 is actually better and free, but to get it you need to pass missions and/or get tokens (you get them for medals or daily missions). Or to get a jet just fly and go through the trees, with premium account is faster of course. Some countries get jets at tier 8, but mostly at tier 9.
    Jets do fly faster and stall at higher speed usually, but it's still the same game mechanics - there are no guided missiles, radars or magic. But F-94D gets a Vulcan cannon and it's great. And about bots, there are very strong bots exist, the higher the tier the stronger they are. So, if you want better jets, I recommend Ace Combat 7, there are modern jets with guided missiles (about 80-100 missiles per plane, depending on difficulty), but it's not a free game and a controller is needed to play it effectively or a specific compatible joystick.

    So the game starts off around 1920, but it is kind of annoying. All pre-30s planes suck. Your engines are terrible. You cannot fly fast, or gain altitude quickly. Once you reach tier IV or V, plan roles start to become more pronounced. I myself favor twin-engine high altitude aircraft. My tip, master air-breaks and remember certain aircraft perform better at certain altitudes. Yes, you can injure crew men, engine's, wing's, flaps and stabs... Et cetera. The better trained your piolet and or crew, the better you can operate your craft.
