By request, this is our to Wasted Time by Skidrow. This is the first time Alexis has reacted to a Skid Row song and she loved it! Wasted time is such a special song and it is Burch's favorite from SR. The is song is about Sebastian Bach's friend and Guns & Roses drummer, Steven Adler and Steven's drug addiction that eventually got him thrown out of of G&R. Alexis and Burch discuss this metal classic and the impacts of substance abuse.

Skid Row's "Slave To The Grind" is one of the most underrated albums from the end of the metal era in the early 90's. While their first album had the breakout hits, "Slave To The Grind" was a banger from start to finish that still holds up to this day. Love that you're doing this amazing track.

"Why can't you believe you can be loved" is absolutely heartbreaking and perfectly captures the shame an addict will feel all the time. It is a cycle of loathing and regret. How could someone love me? I've let everyone down.

True story. I bought this CD the day it came out. Monkey Business is a fantastic song. Wasted Time hits you on an emotional level every single time.
Burch, I don’t know if you explained to Alexis the metaphor of ‘Horse stampedes & rages’. A lot of younger people don’t know that Horse was/is a euphemism for Heroin.
      Great reaction.
And giving the backstory puts some of what’s to come into context. A lot of reaction channels like to go into a new song 100% cold, which is fine for a strictly ‘organic’ reaction… but frequently many songs need at least a little backstory as a reference point. Sometimes the ‘reactors’ might misinterpret the meaning behind the lyrics, which kinda sets them
Off in the wrong direction. I don’t know where you’re located Burch, but I know we could spend hours at the bar talking 80’s ‘Rock n Roll’ and I would never get bored with your stories.

This song is by far the most personal, powerful song I have ever heard. My bestfriend from Jr high was a heroin addict. Went away in 9th grade for help and was clean for awhile. We had so much fun and I loved our friendship. Then he slipped and kept slipping. I had to step back for my own sanity. A friend and I got together to talk about an intervention, but he didn't make it, a couple days later he overdosed. The line that always makes me tear up is, "where's my friend I used to know". I get mad at myself for not stepping in sooner. I feel Sebastian's pain in this. Guilt, sadness, anger. My friend has been gone over 20 years, but I still feel those emotions. And then on top of that I work at a psychiatric and substance abuse center for the past 20 years. I see people fighting these demons every day.

Just want to say I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I too feel this pain. I lost my daughter to heroin in 2015. She was 24yrs old. We tried everything to get her help but in the end, nothing would've worked because she simply didn't want the help. I'm sorry you carry this burden of guilt but please know, unless he wanted to get clean, an intervention would have just been a band aid that eventually would have been torn off. I know it hurts but sometimes there are things that are truly out of our control. I wish for your heart to heal, your pain to subside and nothing but the best for you. Take care.

Scotti Hill's(lead guitar) solo hits just right. Everybody involved in the production of this WHOLE album, in whatever capacity. Deserves to be applauded here. Slave To The Grind is an album that got overlooked by SO MANY. But more & more people are finding out, what us Skid Row fans knew all along. This album is PURE gold. In more ways than one. Man! One of my all time favorites.. I could watch/listen to this song a million times, and when Sebastián is belting it out at the end, it brings a tear to my eye every time.. Being 50 and this was our generations prime time, I think a lot of us had a tight group of friends (because we actually spent meaningful heart to heart time together, *no cell phones and lots of eye contact) that went through this and can really relate..It did then, and it still does looking back.. I always had this song pinned to a certain friend that died from an overdose many years after the song was released, but I could see the path it was headed in and when this was released, I felt Sebastians pain and could relate, and unfortunately it came to fruition. A lot of us were probably right on the cusp of going either way, I know I was, and was lucky to make it out alive.. Great job, and I love watching Alexis articulate her perception, beautiful also ;)

Sabo and Hill's guitar tone in this era was on another level. They could channel the snarl and absolute filthy aggression while still pouring out enough emotion to hold up the song under the crushing weight of Bach's vocals. Vocals which will absolutely go down as some of the greatest rock vocals of all time, and certainly of the 80's and early 90's. His range and control, seamless transitions from clean to vocal fry (think "I'll Remember You) while nailing an A5 octave register are the stuff of legend. The combo of these three WAS Skid Row. Apart, none of them could re capture the magic they made on just 3 albums.

I cant put into words how thankful and impressed I am that you actually look into the message of this and other songs. So many presenters just comment on the vocals and bypass the emotion and experience that influenced so many songs. They just miss the point.
Thank you for your reactions. Truly

Saw GNR with Skid Row opening at Hershey PA in June '91, the summer before I started High School. Sadly Steven Adler had been ousted by then and Matt Sorum played drums on that tour. Still, seeing both of these bands from the Golden Ring seats a couple weeks before my 15th birthday was friggin awesome!

Such a great song off a really great album, Slave to the Grind. I love the first record so much having seen them live on that tour but they took such a harder edge into Slave to the Grind, it's just fantastic.

This is really a sad song.. I remember a video interview of Steven a long time ago about his addiction and being kicked out of the Band.. it really felt sad for him when he says "I thought they we're my friends" and started to cry a bit..

The progression Skid Row made from their debut album (which was already way up there) to Slave to the Grind was insane, in terms of musicianship. Wasted Time and Quicksand Jesus are two of my all-time favorite pieces of music, period.

Being 55 now I’ve seen so many bands over the years. I too am in to the great singers of the era. Sebastian, Rob Halford, Milejenko, Don Dokken, Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio, Treat Alexis to a Queensryche song, old stuff. Still going to see shows, it’s something I live to do. I took my son to his first concert at age 10 Queensryche. my youngest daughter was 14 when she saw Alice Cooper first concert. Love seeing a mix of generations at the shows. Keep up the good work.

Skid Row was such a darn fun band to be a fan of. Terribly underrated. I seen these guys open for Pantera like eons ago. The Pantera fans weren't necessarily looking to get their faces melted off that night before Pantera even hit the stage, but it happened.

I never knew that was the meaning of this song. Thank you so much for infighting me. I grew up in the 80's myself & have played drums most of my life. So Stephen Adler was a huge influence for me. I got the privilege of seeing GnR on the appetite tour with motley & Adler was amazing on stage. He is still active playing with his own band, Adler's appetite. Of course they do the songs from that album. He's definitely not the same tho. Sad, but at least he's still with us

I saw Stevens band Adlers Appetite in 2010 at a small bar here in Ohio.
At that time Chip Z'nuff & Alex Grossi were in his touring band.
I had taken a guitar to the show and all the guys came back into the bar to have drinks, except Steven. At that time he was in his "get sober" rehab stints ... so he stayed on the bus.
Alex was kind enough to take me out back and let me get on the bus with the bosses OK, to get the final signature to make it complete. Steven was so COOL and I wished him the best.
    Great, great memory.
