For lyrical context, the horse part has another meaning as well. In the 90s, "horse" was slang for heroin, so when the "horse stampedes and rages", he means that the heroin addiction is out of control.
I bought the album during highschool and I bought it blind. I have no idea who they are, I know they are rock and I just got myself a Aiwa walkman so I want something to play. And its the best purchase that I did 😀
Watching this video makes me realise just how lucky I was to be a teenager when songs like this were being released. There was some really powerful music being written back in those days. Watching someone else's first time listening to it brings me right back to how it was for me. Wonderful times musically! I'd my own battle with alcohol over the intervening years and it nearly killed me but I was very fortunate to seek help. I've been sober now 13 years and getting to watch all these videos again is very poignant for me. There's one song I'd love to see you react to and that's another Skid Row song called 'I Remember You'. Thanks for this.
Same, I recently put together a playlist of stuff I listened to while cruisin' the strip in my 78 camaro back in the 80's. There were some really good tunes back then!
He is still the most amazing vocalist I have ever heard. He doesn't seem to use any particular technique or vocal technique, just a direct challenge with his natural voice, which is truly the cry of his soul.
Love this song, Baz is insane. Always hits me hard having been an addict myself. Sober 10 years now and I feel like I wasted a lot of my life, so this song always gets me
Skid Row came in the tail of the 80's hair metal days. They were extremely under appreciated. They were one of the best metal bands. In the 80s I chose to walk away from drugs before I became addicted. I was able to reach out and help friends walk away. But. Some i had to walk away from.
They were not underappreciated at all. They were one of the absolute biggest bands of any genre of the era. Rightly so, of course, but you really can't call a band that sells mega platinum volumes worldwide, and go straight to #1 on Billboard with their second album, unappreciated.
@@erikthompson619 sorry about that they may have received those accolades. I was going by personal experience in the region I grew up toward the Cleveland area. We had some Skid Row fans. His voice and emotion in every Skid Row song is unmatched. The pain expressed in this vocal recording in particular is heartbreaking. Some of the other songs he sings his voice is angelic. He is a master of his craft. Check out other songs. You will not be disappointed. This one is my favorite. Thanks for your response. When I heard you talk about other topics like trafficking you should take a listen to In a darkened room by them which is about child abuse.
He also studied acting, which is why he knows how to handle his facial expressions and body language, which added to his training as a classical singer, gives him that stage power.
I love Skid Row and especially Sebastian Bach, but also I love this reaction video. You made it so interesting and personal and I have watched this reaction several times and you as Sebastian are awesome! You must react to IN A DARKEN ROOM from Skid Row!! My favorite vocalist from the 80’s. He was amazing in the early days. This song always gets me too 😢Great reaction from a person that had never heard the song. I listen to skid row still and try to sing like him.
This is the most genuine reaction by far!! what did I see. Usually some even pretend to feel the melody and lyrics. This is a song that only someone who has gone through life with difficulties, high and low , knows how to feel and identify. Your reaction definitely does justice to this masterpiece. ❤
Check out "In A Darkened Room" and " Quicksand Jesus". " I Remember You" was their big massive hit. It's good too and " Breaking Down" is another classic.
Yes. In a Darkened Room is about a child sex trafficking. Sebastian sang every song with the passion it required. He was the perfect singer for the topics Skid Row chose to write about.
Breaking Down is a really under appreciated gem- it doesn’t have quite the soaring vocals or instrumental impact that some of Skid Row’s other mega ballads have, but it’s got a simmering, controlled energy that makes it sound quite unique among the rest of their catalogue, while still carrying a lot of heart. It’s a grower.
fantastic reaction, Sebastián Bach gave so much passion and emotion in this song. he loves his friend allot. Sebastián was classically trained in opera and Music theater. and has done musicals. God bless 🙌

RIGHT! And "Pony" is Cocaine"! There's a song from 1984 called "White Horse" by "Laid Back" that says, If you wanna RIDE, Ride the White Pony, NOT the White Horse, which I Think means, that Coke is Less Dangerous than Heroine, BUT, Both are Addictive and will Ruin your Life!
@@rosalieelliottofficial '18 & life' is based on a true story. 'I remember you' these are EXCELLENT songs I'd like to see you do a video listening for the first time if you haven't yet heard them.
Well, Rosalie, I have to Thank You very much. It's the first time I watch you. I’m too young to have seen them live back then but the first time I heard “in a darkened room” is when I realized how powerful his voice was aside from his range. I could feel it bouncing off of every wall and just filling the room.
If there was ever a “love song” among brothers, this is it. So powerful. I’m thankful for both Adler and Bach still being here. They both had, and still have, such an impact on hard rock/metal.
In case nobody else has said it, Sebastian is not the current lead singer of Skid Row (and hasn’t been since 1996). But he was the one who brought them to stardom (and is awesome). Skid Row’s numerous subsequent singers haven’t come close to matching him…until Erik Grönwall, who joined this year. Erik sounds very similar to a young Sebastian and although Sebastian will always be Sebastian and ‘the voice of Skid Row’ in many people’s eyes, Erik does a great job. Skid Row’s new album with him is an excellent return to form too.
That’s incredible to me. Because I always thought the lyrics addressed the darkness of the drug culture in general. I never knew the words were written for a specific individual who struggled with addiction. It gives this song a whole new level, angle and meaning for me.
Excellent reaction! Saw Skid Row in 1993 (I think, not sure of the exact year). They opened up for Guns n Roses and Sebastian Bach blew everyone away...this song was insane live. They performed so well. Axel Rose, from GnR was so drunk that the crowd chanted Skid Row until Sebastian came out and helped sing the remainder of the songs for the next hour. That was in Charolette, NC. Wow, time does fly!
This is the most difficult and poetically heart felt vocal laid to tape in the 90s. Sebastian absolutely brought his vocals to a new level on Slave but this song in particular had myself being a rock singer at that time was going well he just ruined that shit for everyone of us. Its all but impossible to do this live w any seriousness.
And that’s Skid Row…Sebastian was a rock legend with a kick ass band. One of my two favourite bands apart from Guns n Roses. A great review video by you also, truly authentic.

Rock and metal can be the canvas to express emotional meanings that other musical genres could hardly do. Frustration at the degeneration of a loved one becomes a true elegy. Thank you for giving you the opportunity to review this song. I found it interesting the transformation of the tone you used at the beginning, (somewhat technical), until the end with the emotional upheaval. Greetings.
I was so moved by this amazing song's theme and your sincere, emotive reaction to it, that it brought me to tears. You should try to discover more of this genre. It's a treasure trove of talent and storytelling. Sub'd. You are amazing. Oh, side note: the reference to horse is a double entendre, as "horse stampedes and rages" is the addict reaching sort of a death cry, and "horse" is also a nickname for heroin.
WOW, the first time hearing skid row… it throws me off hearing that. Maybe I just live in an echo chamber but it’s the music I grew up with and now it’s the Golden Oldies. What’s really crazy is when people never heard of Guns N Roses
My first time on your channel. Skid Row is one of the biggest bands. I recommend that you look Savatage, kingdom come and more! Greetings from Buenos Aires.

Hard to argue against him.
This was written about Steven Adler - the drummer for Guns ‘N Roses. It’s a miracle that he’s still around and performing. I’m glad he’s still here. ❤

Greetings.
your face reacting is as real as the feeling of this song, it seems you can't believe what you're seeing and hearing, this is a TRUE react
it was much better and deeper than I imagined or was prepared for.
Horse is what Heroin was called back in the day. Smack, horse, dope, Black tar, China White… all nicknames for heroin.
Yep, this album is an absolute GEM! One of the VERY BEST released from back then.
Love your reactions!
Thank you :)
My first time on your channel. Skid Row is one of the biggest bands. I recommend that you look Savatage, kingdom come and more!
Greetings from Buenos Aires.

Very very good info. Great :) It is really to see the discovery of the band. Really wonderful to discover this type of music.
