  • Blues scale lick utilising a range of techniques, including legato, slides, pinch harmonics, and even some sweep picking. Video includes on-screen tab and a slow play-through.
For anyone who’s played around in the blues scale or pentatonic scale before, much of this would seem familiar and be easy to get the hang of. The most tricky bit is probably the little sweep picked arpeggio, which has to be done by ‘rolling’ the index finger across three strings. That kind of rolling can be a bit hit or miss, if the synchronisation isn’t perfect then there’ll be string clash… but don’t fret (haha!) about that too much, hitting it most of the time is good enough. One thing I find that helps with this particular arpeggio is to drop the wrist low so that the index finger can be more straight; if the wrist is high behind the neck the index finger will be curled and then trying to roll it across strings will be much harder.
Audio recorded direct using a Helix LT.
