    man this was a great lesson. Your hexatonic approach paired with this technique is something I have seen you use in your playing and I love it. Its very different. I was picking up Action Boyz and the takeway from that is “its more sweepier than you think”. I think at those faster tempos, its all about economising the right hand movements otherwise like you mentioned its really not possible to play those lines. Great stuff Jack. Very insightful!

    • @JackGardiner
      @JackGardiner  Год назад +1

      Thanks Farhan! You’re spot on - the hexatonic approach is massive for me.
      100%. The right hand economy/sweep picking mixed with the rolling in the left hand is the key!

    Hello Jack, big fan of your playing! Nice lesson also and I will be right on it :-). Now for some questions: I see the Neural DSP presets are all plugin presets and no Quad Cortex presets. Any chance you "translate" these (more or less) to QC presets? Question two: I recon the album and this lesson is recorded using your new pickups, and now for the question: any chance you make a comparison video between the original (old) pickups and your signature pickups. I know this would be quite an undertaking, but let me entice some motivation :-). Luca Mantovanelli did just that with different pickups in the AZ guitars and quite frankly all pickups came out favourably compared to the original ones. This could significantly boost the sales of your signature pickups. You could eventually, instead of swapping the pickups try to find someone (a shop?) "near" to lend you an unaltered AZ.

    • @JackGardiner
      @JackGardiner  Год назад +1

      Hey Hugo! Thanks for writing man!
      1. Nowadays I’m using a mix of the Quad Cortex and the plugins were as before it was all plugins for easiness during the recording process. I could definitely do this at some point in the future. A good start would be to take the amps or similar amps I’m using for the plugin presets and trying to recreate them in the Quad.
      2. I could definitely do that! The old pickups are still in the 7 string version of my guitar, so maybe that would work?

    • @GuitarHugo
      @GuitarHugo Год назад

      @@JackGardiner That would definitely work! I didn't purchase your signature pickups yet because it's tricky to judge pickups from a distance (RUclips) and returning after trying out is not really an option. In the meantime I bought a set of "cheap" Fender pickups (Vintera 60's). They are also in my Roadworn and sound very nice. I really "hate" the mid hump/ nasality and lack of clarity of the Hyperions and had to do something quickly, haha. Bummer that if I decide later on to take the jump the sale and free shipping will be over 🤔🤐

    That first lick is a straight up lift from Frank Gambale's Techno flash master from his Speed kills book from like the 80s.
    I don't know man I think Sweep picking sounds kind of gimmicky to be honest. Where as you take guys like Jimmy Bruno he's more melodic and free in a sense. Or take something like Tommy Bolin's Savannah woman. Again very free without so many notes but rather a much better emphasis on target notes and unexpected target notes that twist your ear.
    I'm not trying to tear you down but just being honest when I hear this fusion stuff it seems like rehashed Pat Metheny type stuff and it seems bland to my ears. I do think if you studied guys like Wes Montgomery,Emily Remler's Latin stuffand the old man Jimmy Bruno then you too will hear how the Frank Gambale stuff may sound and look impressive but compared to these other cats it falls short sort of. Too many notes but not as soulful.
