We drive the new Kia Sorento Sport Plus and see what this large SUV is like to drive.
The new Kia Sorento has taken Australia by storm and it’s easy to see why. This large family SUV looks good inside and out, it drives well, and it is available with two strong engines. But what is the sweet spot of the lineup? Last year, Tom reviewed the Sorento GT Line, but today, John Law takes an in depth look at the Sport+ diesel AWD grade.
Should you consider the 2021 Sorento? Or should you go for a Mazda CX-9 or Hyundai Santa Fe instead?

An opinion from Kansas. I have owned a Sorento for 7 years and plan to purchase a new Sorento eventually. It still looks good and runs great at 100,000 miles, so not in a rush. It has been a great family car, but also for the space in the back with all seats down. Agree with you about the new look. Highly recommend the Sorento. Both of my kids own Fortes, 2014 and 2020. and they are happy with their cars. Kia has really made affordable cars dependable, safe, and stylish. Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

The Sorento Hybrid and the hybrid plug-in will be the models to buy when they become available here later in 2021. Mineral blue is my favorite colour. The GT-line also has the remote-controlled park feature for tight parking spots and mood lighting too.

Awesome work. The blue is very nice and Kia have really sharpened the design. Finally, one can own a Kia and be cool at the same time! (in a middle aged parent kind of way, that is)

Just on a side note guys, it would be awesome if you could not slow down the close up footage of the infotainment so we can actually see the responsiveness up close ☺️ thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Love the saddle brown interior with two tone steering wheel in Korean models. Hope that's at least an option at some stage. I'd also like the self charging hybrid option if that is a thing. And maybe by the time I'm in the market for one, they would've fixed that wireless CarPlay weirdness. Oh, and USB-C charging ports would be good too.

Looks are definitely subjective. The tail lights are the only thing I don't like about the looks of the car.

Do you personally prefer the Mazda CX-9 Touring or Sorento Sport+? The Mazda feels nicer insider but not having a digital Speedo makes me annoyed, and I like the Kia exterior but feeling a bit cheap inside. So feeling a bit indecisive...

No airbag at the 3rd row, that is the instant no no criteria searching 7 seats SUV on the current market, both the new Sorento and Santa Fe can be passed

In the UK the diesel is not available in the top trim. Just such a bad move from Kia.
The GT Line misses the pan roof, better stereo and 360 camera. I'd personally want all of those.

Spare wheel under a car ;). In Europe 1.6 T-GDI HEV (230 KM) and PHEV (265 KM) versions.

After owning the Sorento sport+ diesel for 2 years now, I have to say the drive is awesome, the seats are comfy, fuel economy is excellent. Averaging 5.7 ltrs on country driving. but the stereo sound is absolutely crap. The sport+ misses out on the Bose stereo system like the GT line has. The front speakers are loud but unbalanced and the back seat speakers are not loud speakers. As a result back passengers can’t hear the music properly. This has been disappointing given the price of the vehicle and I am really into good sound. I wish you could upgrade to the Bose which is absolutely amazing.

Hey Jeff, have you ever had any issues with the dual clutch transmission or issues with windshield cracking?

    • @jeffg4531
      @jeffg4531 Год назад

@@alvinprasad2051 not the windscreen but from when I bought the car in May 2021, the transmission was playing up causing the car to surge forward when braking. It took 5 visits to a Kia to get them to acknowledge the problem. It only occurred as a technician came on a drive with me and I was able to replicate the problem. Ended up being a misalignment in the transmission. All up it took 14 months to fix the issue. Kia were not interested in trying to sort it out until I showed them what the car would do in forwards and reverse. Since they pulled the transmission apart I have had no other issues. I just sold the Kia and upgraded to a different vehicle as the new GT Line had a 12 month wait on it and I was concerned about the transmission issues occurring again.

Yep Hyundai does the same thing with the Santa Fe. What I dont get , is that Diesels are on the way out elsewhere in the world but are still going well here- are we being used as a market dump?

Test driven this car today. There is nothing wrong in it, but I didn't like it. The quality is all plasticky inside and noise insulation is not very good. Also, steering is too heavy for my liking and absolutely no feedback what so ever. I currently drive 2016 Elantra petrol and I seriously did not find much difference in the quality.

For me, this comes down to Genesis GV80 vs Kia Sorrento vs Hyundai Santa Fe. Realising they are sister companies and cousin vehicles (Kia and Hyundai)... it's clear the only solution here is a marry, bang, kill. This is getting very incestuous very quickly. Anyway, I'd bang the GV80 (please don't say "like a tiger"; it's too soon), marry the Santa Fe and be forced, tragically, to kill the Kia Sorrento. The Santa Fe seems to have an edge over the Sorrento with the infotainment screen. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'll live a life of regret... (edited typos)
