A review of Arcteryx gear from someone who has taken them to extremes. Thanks, subscribed and bought these.
Great!
I just bought my 2nd pair of these. 1st pair I owned for 5 years. Walking on beach in very cold, windy, rainy nor easters, and hiking in icy wet snow storms with only merino wool base layer and I stayed dry and warm. Also very very comfortable. I can't recommend these enough!
They're great!
Thank you. Brilliant review with good info. 👏👍😎
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent review...cheers.
Thank you kindly!
Nice review. I have a Beta AR jacket and it works great for me. Been considering upgrading my Marmot light pants. Thinking of maybe the lighter Alpha. Most of my trips are in upstate NY area to VT/NH. I think the heavier beta would be overkill.
Thx for posting.
Just recently found and subscribed to your channel. Nice job on describing and comparing WM sleeping bags.
Thank you Mike. I hope you enjoy. Stay warm out there.
After agonising about buying some Arcetyrx gore tex hard shell pants for a while , I pulled the trigger today. I found the fit of the Sabre AR too small in medium and too big in large, but these Beta Ar fit pretty darn good in Medium. Guess I will have them till the end. Looks pretty hard to wear out. I like skiing in the rain, so hoping I never feel wet in these. Paid $309 USD, which still feels like a ton of Money. Good review, made me feel like I chose well.
Best of luck. You paid way less than I did, so you made out. Enjoy!
Nice review! Nice to see you can go that long without putting your crampons through them! For future reviews I would have liked to see the pack size the pants.
Thanks...I'll note that.
@@ALinsdau thank you.
Thank you for the review. I'm looking for a pant suitable for backpacking, snowshoeing and scrambling in -20 and warmer conditions
Those fleece-lined pants from Eddie Bauer actually work well.
Just bought the alpha SV bibs. Hope to get my use
Where are you going to use them?
@@ALinsdau Probably to go to the local park/basketball in the winter.
Hello, did you size up knowing you were going to layer and needed the extra room? Or did you order your waist size and Arcteryx do the math for you so to speak, I am going to purchase a pair as soon as I figure that out. Thanks for the video
Al. Good to hear your opinions as always. My biggest need is breathable rain gear. Is this suitable or to warm. It's just a gore tex shell isn't it.
In the end, yes some sort of expensive Goretex shell.
But what’s your waist size regularly. I’m a size 33 and not sure if to go with a M or L
Thanks for the video this was vital in my decision making for a decent shell pant. How do you feel about the new model of beta ar pants? They don’t have zippers that go all the way down. I actually bought a pair and returned them because it was nearly impossible to get them on with boots on. I can’t imagine having to try that in harsh conditions. Have an older model just like these en route from eBay.
I just bought a 2016 pair off eBay like brand new. I tried the new pair and also didn't like the split zip. I was rocking the Patagonia triolet pants for a couple months but once I tried these pants I returned those which Patagonia has a really good return policy .
Shorter zippers aren't as easy to use - agreed.
Do you know if the latest model of Arcteryx Beta AR pant removed the zipper all the way down on the sides? Looks in the pictures that the zipper only goes half way!
They have changed the design multiple times unfortunately.
Taking my first “mountaineering” trip to mt. Shasta in may, trying to figure out what kind of pants I need. Between a soft shell + full zip rain pants, or a hard shell pant all the way.
How'd it go?
What size did you get..... and what are your measurements so that we may get a better idea on what size we should order?
I bought medium. I'm 6'0" or 183cm, and 170lb/77kg.
@@ALinsdau Thank you....
Hold up…in the video, you stated you have a size “large” in the video. So what size do you currently own?
Quick question. If you were wearing these goretex pants for 3 months in Antarctica did you have problems with condensation or moisture buildup over time? (I assume it'd be worse if wearing both goretex pants and jacket). I ask because I have heard people say goretex sleeping bags retain moisture and loose loft over extended expeditions compared to the non-goretex bags. Thanks
Those type of pants are easiest to fit over top of a fjallraven style trousers and they are very warm (no need for traditional snow pants) but they don't seem to be the same as the Sabre or Rush shell pants. Those are harder shells and not as easy to fit overtop of other pants except for most arcteryx pants which are all tight fitting, just different material thicknesses. I like both types of shell pants and these harder shell were not available in places like Canada until recently. The Sabre and Rush pants look very bright and shiny but a totally different feel to them compared to this softer shell.
Thanks for sharing!
Any Comment on the Gamma MX?
If I find some, I'll use and review.
Do I have to wear 1 extra pair of pants to wear Arcteryx pants?
No, though the nylon would be uncomfortable in sub-zero temps.
You’ll lose a LOT of heat if it wets out and touches your skin.
Everyone Loves Raymond
I hear that a lot.
500$ Pants LOL for that money I can buy 5 x BD STORMLINE STRETCH RAIN PANT which are awsome.
They are expensive for sure.
