Hi Divya, yes that's correct, my mom was taught oils by some artist when she was young... I didn't touch brushes until 2012... and decided I want to paint with watercolors... never tried oils before.

Hi Teresa :) when I used to make these I've had sets of watercolor paper cards and envelopes bought at Blicks, by Fabriano.. their envelopes were made out of watercolor paper as well.. I may just use my leftover envelopes but you can just buy envelopes online... for example Office Depot has 4 1/2" x 4 1/2", White, Pack Of 25 for $5
How cool is that! My starzec of 30 years is a Polish naturalized American whose family was sponsored in the USA from Germany where they had been displaced during WWII. He then was only 10 and grew up to serve our Army. Wonderful intelligent people the Poles I've met are, got me hooked on perogies too and I'm very glad he moved here to become my best friend! Love your little bird in the snow. However, i cannot get the knack of putting down the breast colors without them all becoming muddy. Did you work wet in wet on the breast area or just the head and wings? I find it very difficult to follow this tutorial. This is actually the first I have tried and I am hoping they will not be this way.

With watercolors everything comes with practice so I hope you don't get discouraged, parts of the bird are wet on wet like the top of the head but breast area is wet on dry and once the colors are in they slightly start blending in together and this becomes wet into wet as I add more. Some tutorials have more info. I post real time videos and more info on Patreon. On RUclips mostly short versions. Instagram has photos. Thank you.
I like the looser style you use when painting cards. Also, I’ll probably follow your lead and just cut down arches to make cards. I despise the paper used in so called “watercolor” cards.
Hi Anne sounds like a good choice :) it's easy to cut for example 22X30 Arches Cold Pressed 90-140lb Sheets.. I just measure them first then chop them up lol... not all of my sizes are the same.. as long as they fit in envelopes haha
You and I both and I bought two boxes (one in 2014 and another in 2016 thanks to forgetting I had some) of Strathmore Creative Cards (deckle edge) before realizing how thin and miserable they are to work with despite saying 140 lb on the box. This method Maria does is the way to go. ♡
