this is certainly the most comprehensive beginners series I've found on RUclips. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Glad you liked the series, it certainly had good reviews.
Came out really clean!
@whitneykovener, the cleaning solution does a good job, but the elbow grease is a factor also.
This is a very good series, ideal for the newcomer. Thank you.
A question please. I have a couple of ultrasonic cleaners. At what stage of the cleaning, and with what liquids would they best be employed?
Hi Scottie
What kind chemicals can you recommend for brightness the brass ?
I used your solution but vinegar does not bright brass like yours
That movement was relatively shiny before I started. Mix equal amounts of amonia and water, soak parts for about an hour. That will shine them up.
Or s there a home remedy that parts can be dipped into to coat the parts and help inhibit the dulling?
@mikemesserschmidt810, not that I know of, the bushings are always the problem with this.
Can we use rubbing alcohol for this process? Not sure what (nath-rah) is?
@mikemesserschmidt810, Hi Mike rubbing alcohol (iso-propyl alcohol) ann be used for cleaning clock parts but it is not very good at disolving grease and oil because it is not petroleum based. Naththa is sold commercially as lighter fluid
G'Day Scottie. Very informative and I like your parts description at the end. Naphtha, also known as Satellite in Australia. Could we use Acetone instead? 🙂 Rob
@robertcloosterman9336, Shellite is a brand name for naptha. Acetone can be used for removing oil etc from clock parts.
Have you used clear lacquer on brass to help keep the brightness of the brass parts?
@mikemesserschmidt810 , clear lacquer sure inhibits brass tarnishing, but it gets into the bushings and gums them up.
