Beauty Contest ! Comparing Gibson Songwriter v Taylor 814 (🍎 v 🍏 or v 🍐 ?)

Thought I’d compare my new Gibson Songwriter v my incumbent Taylor 814. 2 awesome high end super model guitars. Both a lot in common in specs but what about sound and feel ?! Apples v apples or apples v 🍐?!

I was in the market for a good wcoustic, was pondering on buying a taylor because of the price, but i kept holding off for some reason. Then one day, an older gentleman about 70, messaged me on facebook saying he never owned an electric and always wanted one, and offered to trade his songwriter for my ebony les paul studio, about 1200 used. I explained the price difference and he had no care, he just saw happiness in owning an electric. I felt blessed, such an amazing guitar. I had a bone saddle installed (nut is coming) and bone pins. Won't ever get rid of it.

Nice story bud. I think it’s a great Gibson but for some reason they don’t publicize it much. Just seen they issued some rosewood j-45 and doves etc. not sure why they didn’t just push the songwriter more !

14 number designation is the grand auditorium for Taylor…

Yeh. Which is their dreadnought basically

@@Mycloudacoustic no… models with the 10 designation are their dreadnoughts. They only offer the traditional dreadnought shape in the 100 and 200 series now, along with the “academy” line which is just the 10e and those with a “50” designation which denotes 12 string. Otherwise it’s the 110 and 210.

Got it Saturday. Strings were so high off the fretboard and big bow in neck. Did a truss rod adjustment and truss rod stopped turning and still bow in neck. Se t I back.

Yeh they are good. Brighter sounding than their mahogany ones I like it and I’m keeping mine !

I love the sound to the Gibson in isolation but I had a slight preference for the Taylor with your singing. Not a significant or huge difference and it might even come down to the song. I wish they sold these with better pickups. Thank you for posting as most of the music store videos are useless.

Yeh I get that totally. Like I said it’s a single coils v humbuckers soy d e en in acoustic for me and the Taylor is ‘clean’ I love the Gibson sound better on its own but it’s more complicated when you mix in vocals Agree totally 👍

Mine has a Fishman. It's a '16 model. They switched to Baggs later.
