I’m the owner of an A35 sedan version, and I’m very impressed with this car both as a daily driver and for long road trips. Over a distance of 5,300 km, I achieved an average fuel consumption of 6.8L/100 km, driving mostly at 120-135 km/h on cruise control. I also drove 400 km through the mountains in Switzerland and reached speeds of over 220 km/h a few times on German highways. The car is very comfortable, and the 420L boot space is excellent! I’ve driven both the pre-facelift and facelift versions of the A35, as well as the A45. In my personal opinion, the A35-with its extra power from the electric engine-provides better acceleration and more power at lower revs, which gives it a sporty feel similar to the A45. Honestly? The A45 sounds better inside the cabin, but outside, it’s much worse than the A35. Its fuel consumption is also much higher, and the suspension is really stiff. On rough roads or long distances, it makes you feel more fatigued. Sure, the A45 has more power, but personally, I wouldn’t trade my A35 for an A45. Additionally, my A35 is the 2023 facelift version, and it sounds amazing during the "emotion start." with pops and bangs! Of course, with every passing year, more and more restrictive regulations seem to ruin that kind of fun! Cons: The build quality could be better. Over time, the side pillars start to creak a little, especially when driving over uneven surfaces. Also, the 18-inch tires are quite noisy (unless the seals are just that weak).
I own a FL A35 since January is a blast! more torque than before and more confortable, the electric motor is amazing with the boost, no turbo lag. 0 to 62 in 4.4 to 4.5 seconds and more confortable and smoother than 45s. ❤ the A35 . Well done Nick, congrats!!
I own an A35 hatchback from June 2021. After driving it for four months, I found it boring and started looking for a replacement. A year later, I gradually felt a deep connection with the car, achieving a state of oneness. Now, having driven it for over three years, I can confidently say that I absolutely love this car. It's packed with technological features, including 23P, making it a well-rounded "hexagonal warrior."
@@PeterSothern2024 it’s literally a few months old. No problems so far but there shouldn’t be for any car this early. If you’re thinking about buying one I’d definitely go for one the pops and bangs are amazing! The performance is pretty special too and at the same time it’s perfect for a daily. I was considering the Golf R but the interior was nothing but plastic, the Audi S3 but the new version wasn’t released and the finance was ridiculous. The finance on this was in a different league, something like 4.5% (unheard of these days!), you also can’t beat the interior on a Mercedes. One thing I wasn’t expecting was how many of my neighbours would all of a sudden start talking to me. People I’ve never spoken to before were all of a sudden saying how nice it was and asking about it. It’s been more than just a car.
I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't daily the A35. I recently bought a CLA35 and chose it over the 45 because I wanted something a little softer and more manageable. I don't think I shall regret that decision for my particular driving needs.
Love your constant grinning there Nick. Ive just got a new A45s.. got to run it in yet for the 1000 miles 🤨. Ive done 50 miles in it after PPF and alarm system fit. Its away now for winter ..treated myself for my 55th..my first Merc and auto. The 45s has emotion start and is good enough in comfort..as you say the suspension is solid. Well pleased with car😎..but so much tech🤯 Great video fella 😎👍🏻
These days, you buy two cars: 1) the mechanics, b) the tech, the screen, the buttons, the comfort package, the driver assist, the lights, the massage seats heated and cooled, the lumbar adjustments, the automatic headlights, the Mercedes Me package ... I'm sure I've left a lot of things out ... oh, yeah ... the beeps, the navigation, the lane change, the speed zone .... (The one piece of tech I love is the cruise control on the steering wheel. It is sooo good for school and hospital and other low speed zones, just set it and cruise in 6th with all your attention free for pedestrians, dogs, cats, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, squirrels, deer, moose, etc..)
I bought one new in July 2024, absolutely love it, best car I’ve ever owned - stunning! Great, honest and accurate review Nick. I only have one niggle with it and that is the fact that the car automatically slams the brakes on if it detects a pedestrian on the pavement that moves towards the road slightly as you approach, even at only 25mph to 30mph. It has done it on two separate occasions now, luckily no one was following behind me otherwise my back end would certainly have been caved in. The pedestrian turned around and looked at me gone out and I was like thinking, never even touched the brake pedal, it was the OTT safety system that kicked in. Personally I find that feature pretty dangerous.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! You can adjust brake assist if you find it too sensitive, have a look in HOME SETTINGS ASSISTANCE ACTIVE BRAKE ASSIST Change to Late if it’s set to normal
@@npoleary Tried that, only problem is it doesn’t remember the setting and defaults back to medium every time you restart the car, very annoying. Oh well🤷♂️
@@mutt40106 Same, have an A200 and VERY nearly got rear ended when my car emergency stopped on a mini roundabout for absolutely no reason... luckily the guy right behind be has good reactions and good brakes! It also beeps at me when going round certain bends because of cars parked on the road lol
That’s not a bad shout 😅 Christmas Merch! 😂 Also side note I love how that comment has 19 likes 😂 The problem is, if I don’t mention it, I actually receive comments from random people slating my driving position…saying it’s dangerous….but I have long legs!
Great video Nick. I've got a CLA 35 which is my daily driver and its awesome. It's happy on the commute but show it an open road and it transforms into a different beast altogether. The CLA 45S is definitely on the shortlist when i next change cars.
Have the facelift 35, I know its not the quickest compared to competitors but with the aero kit and being blue it just stands out and looks the part. Biased but the performance and technology is great!
I’ve noticed in Comfort mode, one of the two exhausts is enabled (in the U.S., it’s the rear left side). When switched to Sport+ mode, the right side exhaust is activated / opened up. I think that’s how they’re able to control some of the power and sound between the two modes.
I own a AMG CLA35 in hyper blue. It’s breathtakingly quick with stylish elegance. If U was to be critical it’s got too many warning alarms and the centre console has a space that your phone should fit but doesn’t. I agree to many touch buttons we need knobs.
Yes to a specific A45s episode Nick. I’ve had mine since June and I STILL don’t know half of what it can do. Just had mine tuned to 380kw and TCU remapped. It TRULY is now a beast!
Have had a new A35 AMG for around 3 months now and love it. Optioned it with the aerodynamics kit which I believe completes the look of the car and sets it apart from the other A-class cars. I deliberately chose the A35 over the A45S purely because it was better as a daily. Being a daily, you need to take into consideration fuel, ride quality etc. and the 45S didn't work as well for longer trips or driving in traffic everyday. If it was mostly a weekend car then the 45S is a no brainer (if budget permits), but if you need to use it several times a week the 35 is the best of both worlds.
Nick before I bought my A200 special edition and love it. You talk about noise from exhaust on start up and is a little quiet, I had a Ford Focus RS and trust me starting that up at 11.30 at night before leaving for work woke the street up one of the reasons I changed cars lol so being it’s a little more quieter would be a god send to where I live now. Great video very informative. Keep it up.
Enjoyed this video. I have a 2018 CLA250 4matic for a daily driver and really enjoy driving it. Test drove a 2018 C43 amg, that was a blast , wish I had bought that instead 😂. I’m fr, Toronto
Hey Nick, That was an exceptional video. Thank you for doing a review on the A35 AMG Mild Hybrid. It's a shame you couldn't explain more about the mild hybrid system and why carrying an extra 48-volt battery makes a difference at lower revs. I have an A35 AMG with the Aero package in black. I have the Emotion Start, which gives it a pop and bang at startup. I was able to try it out in the snow this week, and the 4MATIC works well, bearing in mind no winter tires are fitted. Fair point; you were saying you can do a lot more in an A45 AMG, but the A35 is definitely a daily driver with a big smile factor.
Thank you! 🙏 glad you enjoyed it! Honestly I’m always testing things and seeing what works in the videos, in most of the content this year I have included a little segment of the mild hybrid bit. But on this one thought as it’s an AMG to just summarise it without an example (to keep the length of the video down) Good to hear you’re enjoying it!
Another great video Nick. My daily drive is a GLA35, which I love but do occasionally think I should have done the 45s. I have a couple of friends with A45s and I get the odd pang of envy.
14 or so months of ownership of my 2023 P+. Still absolutely love the thing. I will say though, I’d have preferred the seats that are in the amg-line with the mix of fabric and red trim. Really would’ve suited the a35. My finance deal is up at end of Sept ‘25; I’m really hoping I can just extend it for another year!
Hi Nick …thanks for another top review . I am on my second A35 (2023 facelift) and use it as my daily driver it’s a great car don’t regret coming from Audi TTRS or not buying the 45 Would highly recommend but like you would love it was a bit louder albeit I do have emotion start which seems to have been removed from latest production runs.
Hi Nick. Love your videos. I just upgraded from my 2019 B180 to a new GLA AMG 35. It is absolutely brilliant. The interior finish and the MBUX is brilliant. One comment on the new MBUX is that I miss the configurable dials in the old system. Also I would love to have a larger format clock available either on the drivers side or the Home Screen.
I Bought a 2023 Premium Plus A35 recently and I previously had the premium A35 (2019)… Nick great video 🙌🏾 but you missed the emotive start!!!! all A35’s have emotive start… you have to hold the right paddle on the steering wheel at the same time press start button… and enjoy the sound! 👍🏾
Glad you enjoyed the video! Ah that’s what I did. No I mentioned it because it’s no longer on any new car. Plenty of posts online discussing it, I believe it’s something to do with EU although I’m not 100% on that.
Emotion start only really works when the car is up to temperature. So if you’ve been driving a while. Stop. Then Start again - it will do it. Works on the 2020 A45S. Not sure about the A35. Great video.
Please review the Audi S3 facelift. Will be an interesting comparison now that it gets the RS3 rear diff making it arguably the more fun car to drive on paper. Haven't seen any comparison vids online of the S3 facelift
Great review once again nick..you seem happy in that baby..its a corker 😊..same engine and set up as my cla.35..the 4matic has helped especially this week!!..I love them all...I go out on a Sunday morning early..and have fun...mine has got the noisy job in start mode ..paddle in-sport+...yeah the 45s..are great..but twin turbos 35s..are wonderful and...quick enough!😊nice one again nick..gaz👍
Great review Nick (as always)! Although I’m biased as I picked up an A35 Touring 4 weeks ago. I got lucky with the current deal they’ve got on (6k saving and 4.2% APR!) - See if you can hand your A180 back and pick one up whilst the deal lasts! Like you said, you won’t be disappointed and it’ll give you a little smile each day!😆
Got the same deal, picked mine up on Tuesday, wow, loving life. The only annoying thing for me is the speed limit reminder flashing on the dash all of the time. I've turned audible off but the flashing icon is a pain....
@@carlnicholls875Congrats man. I got mine in grey what did you go for? There are a few annoying quirks I’ll admit, but you’d get them across all new cars with the new EU safety regs. The touch wheel to control the centre screen is pretty naff but everything is forgiven when you click the AMG wheel into S+!
Merc also have a Cyber sale on if you place an order via a dealer between 22/11 - 2/12. There is an additional £2k discount making £8k and still 4.2%. Placed an order on an A45S today and cancelled my RS3 order.
Awesome video as usual mate. Yes, definitely do a 45S review, I’d love to see/hear your thoughts. I had a 35 for a few years (great car) and traded it for a 45S and OMG the power is unbelievable. I daily my 45S and in Comfort it drives like any other car really. Flick it into Race and it turns into instant lunatic. Come to Melbourne and I’ll take you for a drive 😂
It’s great to see an entry level AMG. Unfortunately we don’t get those in the US.. I think the closest is the GLA, and CLA. Love your video enhancements. BTW, tried the parking assist in the new GLC today, and used the fog lights. Can’t seem to get parking assist to work in my Cabrio, but will play with it more in spring.
This is so cool! Might be an unpopula opinion, but id be so interested in a full electric amg of the A-class. it would be so interesting to see what they could bring out of this bodysize with fully ev amg power as well.:)
Driven both the 35 & 45 and owned a GLB35 which has the same engine/drive train. Both 35’s are brilliant daily cars, the 45, while epic, I found too much for daily use. It wants to rip your head off at every touch of the throttle……😳…..great if you’re in the mood, not so good if you’re nipping down to Sainsbury’s.
We currently have an a250 petrol which we love (22 plate) which is pretty punchy especially in Sport Mode. Will be definitely getting an a35 when our pcp is up in 10 months time or maybe even sooner🤔
@npoleary Would have possibly got another a250 ( petrol only) but think Mercedes have stopped the production of them, only the a250e are available now.
Yes they have I used to have an A250 (front wheel drive) but wish it had 4MATIC. Wish I’d never got rid of it to be honest. But the A35 with more power, that would be something I’d love!
They do have motion start… hold down a paddle and press start. Plus, the C43 does have the same engine as a A45s… slightly less BHP, but the same one man engine with plaque.
Sadly new AMG’s don’t have it anymore. It’s been removed hence why I mentioned it Plenty of forums online discussing it. It’s a shame because I really liked it!
I have twice 🤓 I was looking at making another recently but ran out of time when I had a car on test due to the weather. Old: ruclips.net/video/J2GM83dtbes/видео.htmlsi=y7SCdP39vl_kCQry New: ruclips.net/video/nQByWnFzih4/видео.htmlsi=6RprPcahSkpjLQmi Got loads of videos on my channel of topics like this 🤓🙏
Do you mean on full lock when turning around ? Mine clunks when I turn full lock to the left thought it was tyre pressure because that tyre seems to lose pressure ?
Beautiful car, but in answer to your open question, no it's not an AMG engine. It's a regular A-series 4 cylinder that has been tuned by AMG. The 4 cylinder in the 45s is a completely different engine (hence the hand built, 1 man 1 engine thing). But the 35 is still plenty powerful and fun!
A definitive review of front tyre skipping , judder / crabbin would be great , is it the tyres ,Ackerman , so many questions!and is it scrubbing my front tyres 🤷🏼♂️, great reviews by the way 👍🏻
I’ve experienced this before but only in a couple of scenarios a few years ago. So not entirely sure which models have it, I’m fairly certain it’s a combination of 4MATIC, low profile tyres, cold weather and steering on full lock (or close to anyway) Not experienced it recently on anything though… Glad you enjoy the videos!
You can customise your car far more than what the manufacturer has made from factory. The car like all others are restricted by so many legal parameters and homologation. A standard car buyer might feel that what they're buying is sufficient, but there are so many aspects of car ownership that you can improve the car. How the car handles, performs, to the exhaust, cooling and braking - all of these different aspects can be custom-worked so that it drives far better than standard factory. An A35 can outperform a 45 and be close enough to a 45s through aftermarket modifications and it can reach 370hp and nearly 500nm torque. A better exhaust system with an OPF delete, a catalytic cell reduction to 200 csi (or none) and a cat-back exhaust change can reduce unsprung weight. All of these different changes can already transform the car into what people hope it can be.
got mine 1st of sept. 4.2% , 6k off list price and 2 sevices free. . thay have changed the money off but at as 20th dec. its 5.5k love the car. so different to my golf gti. . A45 is not an everyday car and 16K more so A35 was the one for me
Thank you! Ah it’s always a balance of what to include on a review. I could include MPG tests in the future (of course manufacturers post their WLTP examples which can be achieved, I’ve tested that before) but I could do my own test! Haha boy racer mode!
Fab review as usual Nick👍 I’m a bit confused as I thought from a previous review the A class range is now discontinued. Is the A35 a special edition or its a new design? Or maybe I’ve just lost the plot 🥴
Thank you! 🙏 I’ve heard this rumour too, I’ve considered making a video but don’t know 100% if it’s true. I will if I find out. There were rumours of Mercedes scraping the compact cars, so A-Class, CLA, GLA etc but with the announcement of the recent CLA, that’s not true. I’ll keep everyone posted if I hear anything 👊🏼
I had the engine on for quite a bit while filming statically so I wouldn’t say the range figure would be accurate. My fault for leaving the engine on. Plus it was cold out 😅 wanted a warm car for when I got back.
Quieter cars are not a detriment. Usually, I wouldn't go for an A35 over an A45s, but for a daily driver ... that A35 is one heck of a nice car! Thanks for the review (but I don't like "crackles and roars" of engines, especially). Edit: for the engine/power thing, one point is the torque at rpm level, e.g. how quick is it from zero to 15mph. Some cars have over 450 ft.lb. but at 2500 rpm, while other have 350 ft.lb. at 1600 rpm - and that's all they give you as far is information. Same for horsepower numbers. A look at the curve over rpm would be more complete. The top speeds are published, but largely irrelevant to vastly-most people unless they like spending some days in jail and lifetime suspended licenses or similar.
Hi Nick you might be able to advise. I have a 2021 E220d premium plus, How do I get the car interior lights to turn on if I reach over to the passenger side seat or footwell to get something. I seen it in one of your videos but I can’t find how to activate it.
Hi Nick thank you SO MUCH for replying, my car does not seem to have the feature but I watched some other videos and I set my parking warnings to come on earlier. Love the videos keep the great content up 👍
Does any amg 35 owners experience front steering juddering when you turn out of parking bays or steer at low speed? More so in cold weather. I thought there was something wrong with the vehicle, but Mercedes told me today after inspection it’s normal for amg line or 4 matic. Obviously Mercedes kept quiet about this characteristic when they sold me the car !
@andyking2cargarage It would be nice if they knew anything about their cars. Sounds like Aaron wouldn't have had to take it in, if the person on the phone had only had the info themselves.
I've been talking to my local dealer about trading in my A class for an a35 but I'm really not sure yet. I recently saw a bmw i8 for sale which even though its 9 years old still looks amazing. I'm wrestling with the risks that come with spending a large sum on an old car which might become a future classic or having something newer which is a step up from what I'm currently driving and i do have a soft spot for my merc so theres that.... So far the jury is still out...
Ah cool! Well the one thing I would say to check out is the i8’s servicing costs. I’m not well adversed in this area but I would definitely advise to check it out. On one hand it could be a bargain buying a used one and it would definitely turn heads for the right reasons! It looks a fab car! But on the other hand, this would have been a car that was over £100k new and maintenance costs don’t typically follow the price of a used car (not normally anyway). That’s why I say I’m not that knowledgeable in that area but that would be one thing I would be checking out and researching to see how much it costs to maintain, servicing, tyres, tax, insurance and all of the rest on such an expensive car (or what was at least).
Thanks, fair point and I think the mercedes will come with two years services included if my memory serves me correctly. Another trip to the mercedes dealer may be in the offiing thanks for the reply really enjoying the posts keep em coming and compliments of the season.
Good video but all videos never go through cost of ownership ie service costs schedules etc can help make the choice vs s3 R RS3 A45 looking on the used market you can buy used rs3 A45 for same money 35/45k mark
No it’s been discontinued, not on new models now. www.reddit.com/r/AMG/comments/1cfijvd/has_the_emotional_start_been_discontinued/ forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/emotion-start.302800/ One of the reasons why I wanted to test it and point it out as it was a cool feature :(
@NPOleary, Mercedes UK are offering several grand off, low finance apr & free servicing on the A class AMG range currently. Why is this? Do they lose a lot of money from new or struggling to sell them or what? Is it a similar situation to BMW ‘M’ cars that always have massive discounts and low finance rates but lose tonnes of money?
So Mercedes changed their selling structure almost 2 years ago to a thing called Agency Model. So keeping it really simple for this post, everyone pays the same price for new cars. Doesn’t matter which dealer you go to. There are offers from time to time but no haggling these days. Although I will add, used is different. I don’t know the exact reasoning for specific offers but if a competitor is offering similar discounts, that wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Mercedes then offered similar deals (if they can). In fact, I went into my local dealer yesterday to get something and they had a Cyber Monday / Black Friday event on. So could be something to do with that maybe?
Ooo nice! I saw this on an A-Class when I popped into my local dealer. So I bought an A-Class last year it didn’t have that, but since then they’ve introduced a fingerprint sensor. So it depends on what you’re buying, if it’s fresh from the factory then most likely. If it’s a car in stock at a dealer then maybe not. You’ll have to check with them. It’s next to the parking button in the middle.
Great video ! Thank you! One question for you, does this FL A35h has a 8 speed gear box or a 7 speed? On the Mercedes web said it’s 8 speed, but on auto trader they all listed as 7 speed.
Hi Nick, i have a question. We have bought a B class 250e mercedes from 2023. But everytine we drive below 30 km the rear camera pops out and above 30 km it closes. It is driving us nuts because of the sound. Is there a solution for this to turn it off ? With kind regards Marten
I asked Mercedes this years ago and this is what they said. Reversing cameras used to be just mounted on the exterior exposed to the light conditions which made it show the image instantly. Because they were on the outside they got dirty very quickly. However newer styled cameras now have a retractable housing which is good for keeping it clean but the camera when it pops out has to expose for the light (daytime / nighttime / low light etc) and it can take seconds before it actually shows you an image. To combat this Mercedes will have the camera “pre-pop out” as you slow down so when you do select reverse, the image is shown instantly.
So funnily enough, I actually spoke to Mercedes about this yesterday as I was in Milton Keynes filming a video for in a few weeks time. I’ve been informed now that all new models may do this and it’s actually part of a calibration process. Now this calibration process isn’t for the camera or camera housing. It’s for some of the safety systems at the rear of the car. Although Mercedes didn’t disclose what safety systems they are, I’m assuming it’s “Drive Away Assist” or Crossing traffic” or maybe “Active Blind Spot Assist” calibration. Basically it will do this “up to and around a couple of minutes based on conditions” (this is the total amount of time the camera is popped out). So over the course of heavy traffic going above 14mph and back down below again this may happen a quite a few times over the course of a journey as it quite normal. But once that threshold has been reached, it won’t calibrate any more. One thing to note though is that if the car is switched off and back on, the calibration process will start again.
Certainly on the cars I have tested I have not experienced that. Not only would my microphone pick it up, I would certainly point it out to people if the vents started rattling etc
@ great to hear your thoughts on it! Unfortunately it’s a pretty common thing on A-Klasse (got a CLA250e). Nevertheless, interiors are beautiful, but compared to Audi, the quality of assembly is “déficitaire”. At least this is my experience
From my perspective (currently on my third MB: 2014 CLS550, 2021 E63S AMG, 2024 S580), absent the plaque-bearing, hand-built, one-man-one-engine, it's not a proper AMG. This car is merely wearing a heightened version of MB's AMG dress-up kit. It's OK for some, I suppose, but not for any true enthusiast. Honestly, I've always had a certain antipathy to the A Class (the C Class, too, for that matter), as I think it cheapens the brand. I understand the marketing dynamics behind introducing a lower entry point, but it doesn't appeal to me as a strategy. Not everything is for everybody and that's just fine despite the current sentiment that everyone has a right to experience anything they want. Whatever happened to wait, save, and aspire for as long as it takes to attain a goal? Anyway, enough of a mini-rant from this old MB fan.
Great video, but the first thing to do when watching this video is to disable this crappy automatic translation in French (as default for French spoken people) and set it back in English.
Thank you! I’m curious actually, RUclips messaged me to say that I have recently got this new feature. Is it any good? I appreciate it’s a dubbing over the top, but I sadly don’t speak any other languages (wish I did!) so not sure if it’s any good?
I tried the A45 and, honestly, it’s too fast for British roads. It’s not even trying at legal road speeds and, as a driver, you’re not involved other than telling the car the direction and the speed - the car sorts everything else. Sure, you win various Willy-waving contests and you can say “Look at me!” - but when you grow up, that’s far less important. My daughter’s BF had the A35 for a year as a lease car (he works for Merc F1) and was quite glad to give it back. He swapped it for the A200. I think that tells you what he thought of it.

A 35
or
A 45 S
Cons:
The build quality could be better. Over time, the side pillars start to creak a little, especially when driving over uneven surfaces. Also, the 18-inch tires are quite noisy (unless the seals are just that weak).
Greetings from Poland! 😊
Does this have the M260 engine?
I own a FL A35 since January is a blast! more torque than before and more confortable, the electric motor is amazing with the boost, no turbo lag. 0 to 62 in 4.4 to 4.5 seconds and more confortable and smoother than 45s. ❤ the A35 . Well done Nick, congrats!!
I’m torn between an A45s and the 8Y RS3
I own an A35 hatchback from June 2021. After driving it for four months, I found it boring and started looking for a replacement. A year later, I gradually felt a deep connection with the car, achieving a state of oneness. Now, having driven it for over three years, I can confidently say that I absolutely love this car. It's packed with technological features, including 23P, making it a well-rounded "hexagonal warrior."
Ah nice! Yeah I loved driving this one! I definitely wouldn’t mind
I just bought the A35 Premium Plus a couple of months ago it’s an epic car. You need the spoiler it turns heads.
Why would you want to turn heads out of interest?
What year is it mate? Any problems?
@@PeterSothern2024 it’s literally a few months old. No problems so far but there shouldn’t be for any car this early.
@jonnycsuperplumb765 haha it was super fun! 👍🏼
Ooo nice! 👌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
@davesmith5656 yeah there’s lots of gadgets these days on cars! 👍🏼
You can adjust brake assist if you find it too sensitive, have a look in

ACTIVE BRAKE ASSIST
Change to Late if it’s set to normal
That caught me out too, was scary first few times it happened.
You need merchandise. I’m thinking T-shirts that say “I have very long legs” 😂
Love it😂😂
Love it ! I would buy it .😅
That’s not a bad shout 😅
Christmas Merch! 😂
Also side note I love how that comment has 19 likes 😂
The problem is, if I don’t mention it, I actually receive comments from random people slating my driving position…saying it’s dangerous….but I have long legs!

Great video Nick. I've got a CLA 35 which is my daily driver and its awesome. It's happy on the commute but show it an open road and it transforms into a different beast altogether. The CLA 45S is definitely on the shortlist when i next change cars.
Ooo very nice! 👌🏼
I definitely wouldn’t say no! 👊🏼
Have the facelift 35, I know its not the quickest compared to competitors but with the aero kit and being blue it just stands out and looks the part. Biased but the performance and technology is great!
Ooo stunning combo! 👀
I’ve noticed in Comfort mode, one of the two exhausts is enabled (in the U.S., it’s the rear left side). When switched to Sport+ mode, the right side exhaust is activated / opened up. I think that’s how they’re able to control some of the power and sound between the two modes.
Very true! The same goes for cars here from what I’ve seen 🤓
Perfectly timed review! Just ordered one yesterday after watching this - you helped me decide, thanks Nick 😊
Ooo nice! 👌🏼 what colour did you go for?
@npoleary White with the red leather interior - love it! ❤️
Another great video! Very informative and well put together.
Thank you! 🙏 👍🏼
Haha I thought it was fast enough already 😂
@@npoleary Believe me, it was but I’m one of those that if I’m not modding my cars I lose interest in them.
Haha 😅
Great video Nick and great to to see you enjoying the A35 !!! These are fantastic as a daily driver !
Yeah it was a fun car! 😌
Did you drive both? Mercedes are running a promotion and I'm trying to decide. I had a 2019 a35 before my m240i, loved the tech and the pops
Keep it up.
Yeah very true! My neighbour has a V8, I hear it every morning 😅
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Getting mine next Saturday
Oooo 😉
Nice! 👌🏼
Thank you so much for this review. I've got a A35 .
Great review..very informative 👍🏽
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Enjoyed this video. I have a 2018 CLA250 4matic for a daily driver and really enjoy driving it. Test drove a 2018 C43 amg, that was a blast , wish I had bought that instead 😂. I’m fr, Toronto
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
But on this one thought as it’s an AMG to just summarise it without an example (to keep the length of the video down)
Good to hear you’re enjoying it!
Do u have the Facelift or the Old a35? Why is the Emotion start working for you?
@@lapoguzzon9035 Yes, I have a facelift Mercedes A35H. You pull and hold the right paddle upshift on startup.
Yes please do A45S too
Maybe 👀
@npoleary Would love your review on the A45S Nick...Love your content ❤....bought an A45S a year ago and absolutely love it 😊
Another great video Nick. My daily drive is a GLA35, which I love but do occasionally think I should have done the 45s. I have a couple of friends with A45s and I get the odd pang of envy.
Haha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Ah awesome! Glad you’ve been enjoying it! 👌🏼🤓
Thanks for watching & glad you enjoyed the video! 👊🏼
I defo wouldn’t say no to one!
Oh cool! That’s a nice upgrade! 👀
Yes they changed this ages ago I believe to make it simpler but I did like the customisation before!
I love the engine! I drove it in a CLA and it was really amazing! My friend had this one and was also really happy with it!
Man I love this little hatch! Have A45 perfect for parking and zipping around the city!!!
Ah awesome! How are you finding it?
I got a35 2022 nice car I had my car for three months still in love with it best car I had
Emotion start only really works when the car is up to temperature. So if you’ve been driving a while. Stop. Then Start again - it will do it. Works on the 2020 A45S. Not sure about the A35. Great video.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
Please review the Audi S3 facelift. Will be an interesting comparison now that it gets the RS3 rear diff making it arguably the more fun car to drive on paper. Haven't seen any comparison vids online of the S3 facelift
I’d love to get Audi involved with my channel, I’m working on it! 🤓
Love the channel Nick

Ah awesome! Thank you glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Sunday morning drive sounds amazing 👊🏼
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! I certainly enjoyed this car! 👀
Haha maybe one day I can visit that side of the world!
Thank you! Been trialing something recently 👀
Glad you noticed! 🤓
This is so cool!
Might be an unpopula opinion, but id be so interested in a full electric amg of the A-class. it would be so interesting to see what they could bring out of this bodysize with fully ev amg power as well.:)
i know that would not have the pops and bangs, but i think it would definitely be interesting performance-wise.
Yeah possibly I mean Mercedes are bringing out a CLA next year which is essentially a stretched out A-Class. I posted about it recently 🙏
Hi Nick
Great video .
I own a 73 reg A35 Premium Plus and it’s got the emotion start sounds great . A45S review would be interesting.
👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I’ll see if my local dealer has one somewhen!
Haha I’ve heard the new one is quite a weapon for daily use 😅
Might have to check it out again 😊
A 35 got problem with head - inlet valves, please find it out as soon as pos..
We currently have an a250 petrol which we love (22 plate) which is pretty punchy especially in Sport Mode.
Will be definitely getting an a35 when our pcp is up in 10 months time or maybe even sooner🤔
That would be a great upgrade! Do you have 4MATIC at the moment or is it front wheel drive?
@npoleary front wheel only
@npoleary Would have possibly got another a250 ( petrol only) but think Mercedes have stopped the production of them, only the a250e are available now.
Yes they have
I used to have an A250 (front wheel drive) but wish it had 4MATIC.
It’s been removed hence why I mentioned it
Plenty of forums online discussing it. It’s a shame because I really liked it!
Please do an A45S video .Lack of quality coverage of an awesome hatchback .Absolutely love mine.
Maybe 🤔
I’ll see if my local dealer has one 👍🏼
With mercedes running an interest rate promotion I am very tempted to get this or an a45 in the next month
Stunning 🚗
Emotion start was on the A35 facelift but removed sometime in early 2024 :(
No Affalterbach badge on the bonnet of my 2024 CLA45s, but I do have the one man one engine signature on the engine cover 😉
Can you do a video on how to maximize range and other tips on a Mercedes plug in hybrid?

Got loads of videos on my channel of topics like this 🤓🙏
Had my gla a35 for about three months love it only thing is tyres or wheels clunk when cornering been told that’s normal
Might have to test the A 45 S then! 😅
So not entirely sure which models have it, I’m fairly certain it’s a combination of 4MATIC, low profile tyres, cold weather and steering on full lock (or close to anyway)
Not experienced it recently on anything though…
Glad you enjoy the videos!
I love A35
got mine 1st of sept. 4.2% , 6k off list price and 2 sevices free. . thay have changed the money off but at as 20th dec. its 5.5k
love the car. so different to my golf gti. . A45 is not an everyday car and 16K more so A35 was the one for me
You enjoying it? What colour did you go for?
I like the A35 as it’s more subtle. A45 way too loud for me!
Great vid again and presentation, should have mentioned mpg, driving normal and boy racer mode, road tax costs.😂😂😂😂
Thank you! 🙏
I’ve heard this rumour too, I’ve considered making a video but don’t know 100% if it’s true. I will if I find out.
There were rumours of Mercedes scraping the compact cars, so A-Class, CLA, GLA etc but with the announcement of the recent CLA, that’s not true. I’ll keep everyone posted if I hear anything 👊🏼
Yes can you do the 45s because I have the new a35 premium plus
Maybe! Will have to see if my local dealer has one! 👀
Love how it says 157 on fuel range even after all those launch control and driving you did 👌🏽
I had the engine on for quite a bit while filming statically so I wouldn’t say the range figure would be accurate. My fault for leaving the engine on. Plus it was cold out 😅 wanted a warm car for when I got back.
Another brilliant vid. And why wouldn't you use it as a daily - no point in having a car and not driving it as much as possible
Thank you! Oh yeah I’d love one of these daily! 👀
Yeah, for me, subtle is ALWAYS best... in terms of both look and sound. :)
I defo wouldn’t say no to one of these!

How did you get the pops at 15:23? I have this year's GLA A35 and it's not that loud.
Not sure! The car just did it in Sport+ haha
I’m assuming it has an adjustable exhaust as it was louder in sport+
Hi Nick.i had an A35 for a couple of years and loved it… sadly i sold it wish i hadn’t 🙈🚀
Awh, yeah it was a pretty awesome car! What do you have now? Still Mercedes?
Very true! But this car definitely pulls from a standing start! Took me by surprise!
Hi Nick you might be able to advise. I have a 2021 E220d premium plus, How do I get the car interior lights to turn on if I reach over to the passenger side seat or footwell to get something. I seen it in one of your videos but I can’t find how to activate it.
Only certain cars have it
It depends if it has MBUX Interior Assistant 🤓

You have to put it in Sport+ for the emotion start
Sadly it’s not on cars anymore, that’s why I wanted to point it out. Plenty of discussions online about it: www.reddit.com/r/AMG/s/coLlBahBew
I have the same A35, press break, hold one of the paddles L or R whatever and them push Start - That 's Start Emotion - Sound Noisy

Plenty of discussions online about it :(
@ My God, that is so disappointing. I enjoy with that Emotions sound, it’s like wake up in the morning feeling the power.
Haha yeah I wish I had it too!
Yes normal on 45 too. To do with the tyre traction ar slow speeds, especially the wet I believe.
My C43 also does this, especially in cold weather when the tyre rubber is hard. Merc service manager suggested it only happens to RHD vehicles?
@andyking2cargarage It would be nice if they knew anything about their cars. Sounds like Aaron wouldn't have had to take it in, if the person on the phone had only had the info themselves.
@@andyking2cargarage yeah my local garage also told me it only happens to RHD
@@aaronukhampshireBut Why
Thank you 🙏
Compare the A35 vs CLA 35 🔥🔥
That’s a good idea! 👍🏼
Good video but all videos never go through cost of ownership ie service costs schedules etc can help make the choice vs s3 R RS3 A45 looking on the used market you can buy used rs3 A45 for same money 35/45k mark
Thank you! It’s tricky to do if I don’t own one, but I’m sure dealers will happily let you know the cost of ownership over a few years 🤓
The A35 I will test drive next time
These do have emotion start, you have to hold the downshift paddle and press start. just as an FYI. ☺

@@npoleary i have a 73 plate facelift and mine definitely has it, maybe its a 2024 thing?
It is, they removed it from summer 2024 onwards
Good video👍 although i think i would take this new golf R over this
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Did you see my Golf R First Impressions in Germany? I was lucky enough to take a pre-production car onto the autobahn!
@npoleary not yet I will have a look for sure, which would you take out of the two?
Sadly I didn’t get to try the Golf R for long
I’d have to try it for a bit longer.
So on that basis, A 35 ☺️
Hopefully no cylinder head problems with these ?
Nick , pick mine up in 2 weeks. Getting premium plus , does it have fingerprint sensor included ?
Mine is at the dealer, arrived from Immingham docks yesterday.Fingerprint sensor included.
Thanks for all your videos Nick 👍
Great video ! Thank you!
One question for you, does this FL A35h has a 8 speed gear box or a 7 speed?
On the Mercedes web said it’s 8 speed, but on auto trader they all listed as 7 speed.
The latest A35 has the same 8 speed as the A45.
Thank you! Yeah @markglover1718 beat me to it! Yes it’s an 8-Speed 🤓
To combat this Mercedes will have the camera “pre-pop out” as you slow down so when you do select reverse, the image is shown instantly.
ok, thank you very much ! Lets hope Mercedes will bring out a software update to fix this. We are not happy with this.....
Hey Nick, this car does have a emotional start - You have to switch to S+, hold the UP paddle and then start and enjoy ;-)
True, but they've removed from new models now.
Yeah it used to, new models don’t have this anymore 🥺
When are they going to stop producing the A saloon(sedan)?
I’ve heard rumours of this but nothing in concrete, if I hear of anything I’ll post about it!
A35 does have emotion start.
Not anymore sadly, this is why I included it on the video. It’s not on new cars anymore. Plenty of posts online about it
2024 C43 is a one man build engine with a signed plaque.
Mercedes interiors are beautiful indeed.. too bad that I have vibrations everywhere, air ducts, door panels, belt tensioners…
@@lorins8687 yes mate, seems rich and arrogant, the problem is he never pushed this new Face Lift A35 with no turbo lag. Buy one Mr.... peace!!✌
Mercedes Cla 👍
There is the motion start
No sadly it’s not on new cars now, loads of discussions online about it. That’s why I wanted to test it myself

I have a yellow 23 plate A45S, had it 2 weeks and love it. Nick please do a review/how to as they are very informative!
Ooo maybe! I’ll see if my local dealer has one! 👊🏼
@ Fingers crossed 🤞
As a previous three AMGs owner, if it ain't a V8, it's not an AMG.
@@konkombotis5549 ahh yes. It’s the CEO of Mercedes. Who obviously controls what an AMG is. It’s very nice to meet you sir.
EMOTION START: U mus't hold both paddles before starting the engine..then it does The Emotion start....
Hundreds of A35s with cracked cylinder heads or valve issues at very low mileages, i would avoid. Not a good product in my experience
True and it's scary...a few of my friends cracked their cylinder for a35s (very low mileage less than 20k), hopefully it never happen to my cla45s
Wolf in sheep's clothing has my vote.
I debadged my C63 cab to avoid unwanted attention...
Ow boy .. you dare to go in a faster car that you own ? I have a cla 2023 but i wont go for a test drive in a cla amg i will feel sad in my own car 😂😂
Haha there are many faster cars than my own car 😂
