Had a 45 min spin with the new 308. The answer to your questions is the 308. What surprise me the most is the handling part which is fun and quick in the 308 even though it is comfortable, and I have to disagree with this review. The 308 has good feel in the steering, no problem hitting the lines if one wants to. The one I drove had 17" tires and THP 125 which is enough for this car (well nothing is enough if you are a real man ;) ).
come on guys those of us who have been inside both these cars know that the golf is so up market. Plus it drives better and has better space for passengers. Don't choose a car only by the looks guys...
Well, the Golf look old, has a smaller boot, is less comfortable but not more dynamic (and they're testing the high spec one with the best chassis witch is only available on the high spec, the mid-range are really beaten by the Peugeot witch is good from the low-price to the top) and she is more expensive and less fuel efficient than the Peugeot... The Golf is a great car, but I prefer the 308 really.
Peugeot has moved with the times, VW have not. The golf is like a car from the 80s with its dated looks and interior and bland drive. The Peugeot wins in every area. Even the SEAT Leon blows the dated golf completely out of the water.
+Paul Tudor Except the interior of the Peugeot looks crap, is poor quality, the touchscreen is very slow (which is awful considering heater controls are on there), Next to no glovebox, crappy engines compared to the Golf, no rear legroom, Looks a bit nicer though... possibly.

I think I would seriously have to disagree that Peugeot interiors 'look crap' or have poor quality. They are very modern and upmarket compared to competitors, especially those of a similar price bracket. Peugeot engines are awesome, just look at how many ancient peugeots are still happily running on our roads! Cannot argue with that, but meh, beauty is in the eye of the beholder of course and not everyone is going to like the same stuff I guess. I love my 2008 though and would have gone for 308 if I didn't need more room.

I shouldn't have used the word crappy to be fair, but the engines are not as good as the latest VW engines, the 1.4 ACT for instance gives 150ps and high MPG as well. Peugeot exteriors beat VW into the dust very easily, especially with things like LED headlights on the 308. Interior wise though the 308 has lots of scratchy nasty plastic and just doesn't have the quality of a golf. Rear legroom is also really low due to the massive boot.
don t buy the gear box DSG of VW AUDI SEAT SKODA (same group ) it breaks very quickly and prepare your money to repare it . the group VW has a very big problem with the DSG .

It has more grip than Golf and doesn't understeer as much, Also, engine in the THP is more rev happy. 125hp version of 1.6 thp is more than enough for 8 sec 0-100. Itd the same engine used in BMW 116i, 118i, 316i, 318i and Mini Coopers.
most of the people gonna prefer Peugeot 308 over golf....i have once own a golf but that car given me nothing but problem a bunch of problem !!!! I own a golf 5 and my girlfrind owns the older 308. Can't compare the new ones, but the difference between golf v and older 308 is huge. Golf is much more upmarket. Feels more refined and more expensive, looks better and drives much better with more comfort. The 308 feels like 10 years older car. I would compare the ride of 308 to a golf 3.

the VW stearing "offers more feel"...?! what would that mean ?!!! anyways I will never drive a gasoline car since they tend to explode or burn even on minor accidents (I had a friend that tumbled with his gasoline car, he got 3rd degree burns on 75% of the body) and also I would never buy a car with an engine that "eats" oil from new (like VW or Skoda). The best engine in the world as far as safety reliability and economy is PSA's HDI. Also my 1.6HDI works perfectly with PPO as fuel... :)

Wv suck.. personnaly 308,megane,classe A, A3> golf. Golf is like iphone in worst because iphone has still better design and better quality but the golf is ugly and isnt superior quality. Wv is nothing without porsche and audi is bad but i like a3 and they are still better than wv.
