  • Peugeot claims its new 308 is a game-changer, a car that pushes the brand upmarket into premium territory. Can this humbly-badged hatch really take on the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-class (not to mention the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf)? Find out in our latest first drive

    I test drove the car.The ride is very very smooth. No jerk, no vibrations, very quiet. Excellent gearbox and brakes, you need no time to adjust to them. The engine is very refined but lacks a little bit of push. The interior is very well put together. The road noise is minimal.The road holding is excellent. This car very well may be the best car in its class right now.

      Shovelware I suggest you set yourself a goal to aim for and buy your own. I had too, no one gave me my car. You can achieve anything in life if you put your mind to it and some hard work 😊😊

    Well, I tried it, in Allure trim, and I can say that in terms of material quality, fit and finish and overall quality feeling, it is definitely above BMW 1 series and Golf, and totally in line with A class and A3. Anything else feels cheap in comparison.

    my wife and I have one. better than focus and golfs if you would believe it. you will always get a German car or ford fanboy criticising it no matter what. also I am a mechanic so anything that needs repaired will be cheap. german cars break just as often and are more expensive to fix

      @@davidbrathen2268 hi 5 years and 90000 miles later. Only repairs required are rear wheel bearing,aircon recharge and a sensor for turbo. Other than that just tyres, brake discs and pads and servicing. Pretty reliable.

      @@mrgee4691 Thanks for reply. I just bought a 2014 mod that has gone only 35000 km. Just heard that the timing belt runs in oil on these pureteck engines, so have to be careful with oil changes. I like the car very much, more comfortable than many other cars I have tried ..

    Most people have no Idea what has been created here , Once they released the New Bluehdi (97 MPG )is simply the most Fuel Efficient car in the World with a 470 Liter boot
    My Experience tells me Manufacturer claims tend to be relatively accurate

    i have a 56 plate 407sw HDI and get av fuel economy of 70mpg.and like the look of this 308 -clean and not trying to be a teenagers hothatch grown up.and for a smoother,softer ride on uk potholed roads, well i would be happy to leave sports suspension far behind.

      What do you think of the new styling? It's a lot less agressive than the 407

    • @alecbrown66
      @alecbrown66 10 лет назад +1

      Which? yes,much less agressive! BUT more a return to subtle classy style, like the 306 was back in the day? at least it wont be so bloated and faded stylewise like the focus or golf, or over the top such as astra and renaults.and less plastic bits nailed on to fall off down the road.

    • @which

      It's interesting they've adopted the shoulder line down the side that has become fashionable recently. Don't you think it looks MORE like the Golf and Focus now?

    • @alecbrown66
      @alecbrown66 10 лет назад

      Which? not really.the 307 also had the shoulder line, although it had a deeper scoop under it, and the shoulder curve looking down the side is very reminiscent of the old 206, 306, even the 106/saxo. perhaps, as the 307 shoulderline was hell for dings and getting filthy below it, the softened this up, to allow better kerb view and customer ease of cleaning and maintenance?

    my arvage speed in London is 14 mph Because of the traffic lights and traffic
    Sport suspension is the worse thing a car can have in London those pot holes will ruin the steering rack and the tire rods which will take the full force of impact

    Reviews like this are so biased towards the Germans it drives me around the bend. My Father had a 307 1.6 and had that for 7 years and did 174,000 miles on the ORIGINAL clutch. How can you not say that Peugeot are not reliable. He thoroughly enjoyed that car. Now we have the New focus and its crap. If we were talk about the Golf, I would declare the design as boring, You look at it and it and theres no Flair about it. Its just the brand. The Germans do some much marketing into their cars that because of our consumable market people now look at the likes of VW, Audi and Bmw and just presume there nice cars because of the badge. I've driven the BMW 1 series and thats an Ugly car and very uncomfortable especially with a car full, the only plus was the efficiency. If anything VW's sister group Seat have produced a much more refined and sporty looking car, as well this, very efficient. However, This Peugeot 308, I think is a really good looking car. The lines are superbly aerodynamic and the efficiency is also very good especially on the 1.6 BlueHDi.
    Over the last two years I have to be fair driven a number of cars and believe If I was to review the Family hatchbacks we have today I would state the following out of 5. (This takes in all the considerations: MPG, Design, Comfortable, Reliability and Cost.)
    - VW GOLF 3/5
    - BMW 1 SERIES 2/5
    -Audi A3 N/A havent driven
    -Honda Civic 4/5
    -Ford Focus 3/5
    -Seat Leon 5/5
    -Fiat Bravo 3/5
    -Vauxhall Astra 4/5
    -Renault Megane 2/5
    -Peugeot 308 4/5
    -Merc A class N/A
    I thought I'd involve my thoughts. But overall, I would conclude that the Seat is the best Family hatchback out there.
