I didn’t even know about youtube collectors or facebook groups.. but the more I got into it and started searching stuff how quickly the hobby changed into something else entirely and getting stuff just because it was popular or rare. I was majorly influenced for years. Then I had a wake up call and sold basically everything and started my collection again for me. Great video.
Yeah, like I wish I could get them to rerelease 2.0 of Iron Spider from Infinity War (only Holland I’m missing from my collection), Age of Ultron or Avengers Hulk with absolutely no seams, Artisan Thor from either of the aforementioned movies. Am I asking for too much? 🥴

KeCo saving marriages, one video at a time! And all seriousness, it is funny to think how easy our decisions can be influenced when buying anything. Even if you think you have guidelines to help from getting out of control, those things can be influenced as well. it’s overwhelming how much there is being released in all scales and properties.
I usually stick to the sentiment “if I need or am asking for assistance in deciding for something, there’s high likelihood I don’t really want it”. As such if I want it, I’ll just get it without influence or suggestion
I loves these videos you make trying to help these lost souls jumping on every hype train that passes the station. The biggest mistake new collectors make is opening to many doors to franchises they cannot keep up with.

Love this topic! I see way too many people selling figures that just released 2-3 months ago. You know they bought into the hype instead of actually having a connection to the character, actor or source material. I know I myself have fell into the hype of the limited artisan drops, and hype before. Curation is key in this hobby, you have to have a passion for what you're collecting. Always a fan of your honesty and insight not only in collecting, but just in life itself. Keep it up Keco!
7:30 I’m definitely no sheep lol 😂 I always collect what I want, but from time to time if there’s a figure I’m not sure about I’ll definitely ask you or Will for advice. Tbh you and Will have influenced my collection in a good way, not because I want my collection to look like yours but because I genuinely like those characters but wasn’t sure if they’ll fit in my collection in figure form. For me I like the rare and hard chases in my collection, perfect example the DX08 Joker. I checked online and there wasn’t much good reviews or opinions on it so I knew you were the guy to ask because you always give straight up honest answers with no BS. I get what saying. I think the fun part is not really the influencers but listening to people talk about what they do and don’t like about a figure. That’s why I watch you and will. I feel like your opinions are always honest even if i don’t agree with you sometimes.
I try to get things that means something to me or that I look fondly on from my childhood. I didn't start out that way though; I went through a NRD spree and kept clicking pre-order on a thing I didn't 100% want. Like you said, I want to point out any of the xmen figures I'll have in my collection and explain what the story is. Thank you for always being willing to make videos to help out new collectors.
I watch other RUclipsrs to see different opinions and thoughts that I may not have thought of. I usually already have the figure on PO or more often don't want it prior to watching their video. Sometimes I like to see a preview of what I'm getting or just want to see the figure even though I'm not getting it. Fun and entertainment is why I watch most 1/6 scale videos. I appreciate your education in your videos! You do influence me to continue to make better decisions for my collecting hobby!
Very interesting points you have discussed….for me I am a trial by fire…I learned from watching others but also by making mistakes as I go, there is so many ways to get conned as a new collector…but thankfully there are a lot of people in the community that help those that ask freely and without anything to gain

Worst, they are naively diminishing their very own efforts bc indiscreet schilling YT hosts (or authors, content creators, etc.) regardless of personality, style, or earned followers are always eventually exposed & labeled as fraudsters, hucksters or worse via, ironically, their own social media platforms. Since you shared a quote, I'll reciprocate a FAV: "Good judgement comes from experience(s). And yet experience, often, is a result of bad judgement(s)." Good stuff bud.💪🏻
I have been a collector for more than 10 years. I collect several lines from different brands. Recently, in the past few months, I have never seen a brand announcing so many releases like Hot Toys has, we are talking about maybe 30+ within 2 months. It's crazy. Not only are they announcing new figures like there is no tomorrow, but their quality is going down the drain. They are so busy trying to get more money out of us with new stuff that they don't care what they are giving to us at the end. Their prototypes and final product are completely different. It's getting ridiculous.
My personal opinion is that if you have to ask a third party if you want a particular product or not, then it means that you don't really need or want to have it. If you see a figure that immediately catches your fancy, forms part of a range you are already collecting, don't have the figure in your collection then it is an instant yes buy it. If you have to think about it then the figure has not grabbed you as it should and will probably end up being a regret purchase.
I needed this video when I started collection because oh boy did I have to sell some recently as they didn't fit into my plans. I almost pulled the trigger on some recent releases as I was just excited to wrap up some MCU characters. However I just ultimately decided to wait it out. Instead I will be buying a new display case from Amazon to showcase some figures as I got a couple of open orders on SS.
@@KeCoCollects New display cases should be a priority too if your collection is getting too full in a single display! Got to have some room to let some figures breathe and pose. This new one should clear out my marvel from my 2 detolfs. If it goes according to plan I should have a cleaner display within the next few months.
Get what I want when I can afford to. Never been influenced. Nostalgia is my biggest influence. Never been a fomo addict, collect what u like that's what matters.😊

My eye kept getting drawn to Mace in your collection because right now I don't really want him because I don't love the figure but I'm being influenced by the picture with Kit Fisto and the impending episode 3 Sidious. It's the possibility of an episode 3 Mace with a better sculpt which is putting me off.

Only get the figures you really want and if you're unsure then wait and sleep on it. You may miss out but there will be other figures down the road that will fill that need. I never overpay for figures and have skipped on figures that look great but are not my must haves. Been collecting Hot Toys since 2009 and it has served me well. Great video and yes don't buy because of inflencers or FOMO.
The less influencers I watched and staying away from what’s made in “small batches” or causes FOMO. Instead stuck to the basics. Every figure I have I really do enjoy and have a hard time wanting to sell. I’ve bought a few figures based on what others said but I don’t look at it as a horrible thing because I do like them.
Yeah, many people tried to tell me that deadpool deluxe edition is a MUST HAVE(!!!) because of gold guns (including WillFoxification) but I really dgaf about these golden guns.
All of the people in the groups and YT,who tried ( and still do) to tell me InArt Gandalf is a “ must have “ for my collection 🥹. But I don’t like their Gandalf more than the upgraded Asmus I already had ,and they can cry me a river ,how much it triggers them that I like the Asmus one , I don’t care . 😅
I buy and collect what I like and think is cool to me. I don't care what anyone else thinks about it all that matters is what I think. I also don't collect to make money off of it because ill probably own my collection till I die.
What do you think of all the Hono studios/ Hot Toys Marvel classics line? Sideshow Collectibles is currently pissing me off on there reserving practices on these limited edition figures, I knew they were going to randomize who's in line for the item like they did with the the classic comic the amazing Spider-Man figure so I knew they were going to do the same with the brown and tan suit Wolverine so I wasn't going to take that chance with the figure so I did go to Toys Wonderland, because that is a must have figure for me, it's my favorite Wolverine suit and low and behold it was there for pre-order the night before.
I don't mind the queue. It makes it fun and something to chase if you miss. Waitlists are usually pretty helpful. As for TW, STAY ON THEM if you can't cancel - pre ordering with them (which I think they are under a different name now) is very risky

I influenced myself to break my rule about no clones in HT scale. Started with Commander Fox...now I preordered Echo and Fives. Jesse and Rex are on the wishlist. Rough out here, but my rule of thumb with buying nowadays is like only buy something if I know it feels like it fits who I am. Already made several mistakes in 3.75 and 6 inch scale. Not trying to do that with 12 inch.

The sad part is that all these "influencers" believe all the bs they spuge is accurate. Making predictions, only being in the business for a couple of years, got a mic in front of them, and all the sudden, they are pros. Laughable, really.
The inart influencer batches are a great example...they have to be taken with a grain of salt. Even more so those doing the reviews have to be careful now that we've had 2 releases in 3 years...the QA is lacking for the price...credibility is on the line
Only figure ai regret buying is the punisher. I paid way too much for it and the figure seems underwhelming. I will use this experience as a learning one.
I never care what a youtuber or influencer say. Maybe my real first influence was a friend that buy mechas and always tell me to buy only what I really want. I now Hot Toys since 2014 when I see at work a Ada Wong VGM16. And buy my first Hot Toys in 2016 because Civil War. Some years later I see that my display looks like any other know person and youtuber I see online so decide to sell all of them. Now I only have two Hot Toys Boba Fett Repaint, ROTJ Luke OG and regret to not sell that figure at the time know the boots are damage.
