All good stuff dude. I would add... If you must sell
at a financial loss , keep in mind that you did get enjoyment somehow (buying, displaying, posing ect) that figure.
Whatever loss you take is the cost of your experience collecting and holding the item.

As a minimalist I appreciate this video. I have bounced in and out of collecting. I was guilty of FOMO and false hype. I have limited myself to 2 IPs that really matter to me. I look at these as artistic representation of my favorite characters. When there’s too much it muddles the look I’m going for. You can see how the market has fluctuated on eBay. Prices are super low for some great pieces. Great video!

Space is the biggest factor for selling. A crowded collection looks like shit and the sun is worse than the parts. Not everyone has a basement or a room or even multiple shelves to fill up. I am lucky to have a collection room and I still have to be careful not to fill it up with unnecessary items.

Personally I have a few rules when it comes to buying brand NEW Hot Toys figures:
    1. First and foremost, regardless of the reason, the price has to be right - no more than a maximum of €200.
    2. Second:
no exposed joints and the ability to have them hidden.
    3. Third:
    nice and correct body proportions!
Giraffe neck and long torso with short legs = thank you for your Superman and Batfleck figures Hot Toys, but I’ll pass 👎
    4. Fourth:
the ability for the figure to remain in dynamic poses for extended periods without damaging the suit.
    5. Fifth:
a nice head sculpt and specifically - no cross-eyed looks = Avengers Iron Patriot head sculpt & Boba Fett head sculpt 👎
As for selling, for me this depends on two factors:
    1. The right price = it has to be higher than what I paid to cover the cost of a potential new figure.
    2. There has to be a figure in stock to replace the one sold.

I feel like this applies only to those that buy anything and everything because when you pick and choose from the start your collection is only made up of figures you have connections to, I never understood people buying just to buy like okay ya drop 250-300 on a character you don’t care about that’s stupid but every figure in my collection is because of the connection I have to them

I sold 3 iron man figures that I regretted selling. I bought them again, one I have now and waiting on the other 2. When I was debating on selling them, these were my questions: Do I connect with them? Are they good characters? Did they do much in their respective movies? I also didn't want to be recognised as a huge Iron Man fan as the number of them was climbing up and I wanted to make room for my display. But recently I realised all that doesn't matter, it's whether I like the figure that counts.

I think when you get to a certain age, you need to take more responsibility for those around you over yourself (Mrs, kids etc.)
Having a large collection isn't healthy and imagine the day you're not here and having to leave all the work to them.
I also think less is more. Better to have a few nice statues, figures of your top characters / movies only, set up with nice cabinets, lighting, accessories etc. Then 500 1/6 in a small detolf posed like 5 year old toys.
Been in the process of selling for a while now, reducing colleciton, doing above, and closing rabbits holes. Far more happy because of it. What I love, favourite is quality premium collectibles.
But yes, it's a ball ache to sell, especially the current market. Still have a while to go sadly.
But if I'd could go back.... Make a plan that's for only you.
    For me.
    Write down top 20 movies.
Top 5 movies can spend anything within reason (silicone bust, statues, custom figures, better made 1/6 etc.).
6 to 20, regular 1/6. Less than say 500 per collectible.
Horror (open, but less comes out, so easy to manage)
If I had done that earlier, knew my space, saw my end game (above). I would have saved quite a bit. But I got there in the end.
Just for the newbies, spend hours, do your list now and stick to it. Learn to appreciate what you have and stop chasing anything that's not written down. This is a hobby and nothing more. Making memories (family, kids etc.) is what being rich is really like.
My 10 pence on the matter anyway. Good video for the community. Well done.

Best piece of advice in here is invest in yourself and other things for enjoyment. I think people who have tunnel vision are the ones who fall the most down the rabbit hole of I need everything. I'm extremely selective, and it pained me to pass on Artisans Scarlett Witch/Johannsen. I have NFL tickets to plan for, I grabbed the t rex cliff attack from Prime 1 (years ago) where I know the bill is coming due at some point..plus just life. Sometimes going out for a nice dinner is worth way more than a hot toy...sadly for a similar price now a days 😂. It also let's me enjoy my collection way more when I select the odd signed sports item, statue, cgc comic, and just life activities. Memories > merchandise.

    • @KeCoCollects
      @KeCoCollects  4 месяца назад +1

No easy answer or one size fits all - but recently it's been space, prominence, and multiples. 1. Do I have the space for a giant base, figure, etc - where is it going to go?? 2. Is this a main character or a side character or variant - I'm not wanting to chase background characters. 3. Do I have a representation of this character already and is it good enough. If it is? Pass - if not, sell the weaker one even at a loss.

Can you please do a video on how to take a break from collecting and if we as collectors do decide to take a break from the hobby instead of outright quit cold turkey, what’s the best practices to not get tempted from buying so many figures? Also if you can dive into on the subject on how to limit yourself on how many figures you should buy for the year would be greatly appreciated as well. Like you said, “you don’t have to buy everything” so let’s get into that quote more deeply on your next video and actually put it to good use.
As always thank you Keco for helping out the collecting community, I really appreciate your inputs and opinions on everything 1/6th as always. 🫡
