Demo on polyspan covering ~-~~-~~~-~~-~ Please watch: "Full video How to build I beam wings Staring Billy Werwage " • Full video How to buil... ~-~~-~~~-~~-~
The best kind of covering there is. Dope and tissue are stronger than monokote or any of the other kotes there are. You certainly know how to do it. Old school kind of builder. Congratulations and cheers from Brazil. Keep up with the excellent videos.
Thank you for your videos. 1. Did you coat this with dope prior to laying down polyspan? 2. I noticed you applied a lot of dope “before” shrinking and also used the heat gun to shrink at the same time. I’m not used to that as it’s different than Koverall/dope where I dope down the perimeter, let dry, heat shrink than dope everything. 3. I noticed you didn’t spend a lot of time on the aileron ends. Does the polyspan not like to be neatly folded into tight corners? Thank you I appreciate your feedback!
Thank you for showing how to use the Polyspan. Can you tell me where I can get the dope and thinner you use? Is it Nitrate Dope or Butyrate Dope? I'll need to know so I know what to order. FYI, I've finally decided to stop using shrinkable coverings because they can't take the Florida heat in our cars and I usually keep my models for 20 years or so.
Currently on an airframe, After I applied polyspan and shrunk it. I applied two coats of 50/50 and was about to add More coats or 60 dope/40 thinner. Is this ok? I’m Noticing you used strait thinner for your initial coats and wondering if I made a mistake?
Just curious on filling the polyspan on the open bays - what if - instead of a 50-50 mixture of dope-thinner we use a 1 part dope, 1/2 part thinner so we can still brush it but because this time our mixture is thicker, we will not experience "dope going through the polyspan" and cause puddles .. Just a thought. Also, another question on filling the polyspan - after applying one coat dope to the open bays, have you considered applying a coat or two of sanding sealer ? ( like Sig or Brodak sanding sealer ? ) A sealer is nothing more than butyrate dope and zinc nitrate mixture ( similar to our powdered talcum powder dope mixture we used to do back in the days ). Just a thought .. Let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you.
Before applying the polyspan, can I assume you still prepped the wing with the same solution of 50-50 dope-thinner on the bare wing structure ? You are still using the "tautening" dope ?
I'm in the process of re-covering my ARF Oriental with polyspan after I stripped off all the monocote. Have used polyspan on other models with some success on trial-by-error but appreciate your video as it dos help as I do have trouble with wrinkles at the tips. I have many building videos on youtube and have listened to music while building and your right - youtube doesn't like that so I stopped. However the videos are still available but the music company's are getting any advertising dollars from them so I did get away with it,but you could lose your account so no more listening to radio while you work, so sad.

Gonna have to try that stuff, Thanks!

Yes, 3 coats on Bare wood. I try to use enough dope on the perimeter to secure covering and no it does not like 90-degree angles

I only use Butyrate Dope and you can get it from Wicks Aircraft. Randolph is the brand
The dope comes from Wicks aircraft and I only use Butyrate Dope. Sorry for the late reply. It's best to message me at www.stunthaanger.com/smf
Thank you, very good video and awesome presentation
Thank you

When in doubt use thinner. 60/40 should be fine and add it until it shines before color.
@@Stunthangar thanks so much!

Nice works! You don’t apply dope right over ribs?
Do not dope over ribs until the covering is shrunk. Once shrunk you can dope whole area.
U Da Man Sparky!
Thanks

Glad you like them. Be sure to check out www.stunthanger.com/smf
Generic lacquer thinner works with Sig Butyrate. So does Dupont 3608s
.
I would not use it
Why wouldnt you cover the entire bottom (or top) in one piece ?
so it's double stregnth in the center
so I get double covering in the center section
I love using polyspan
It's good stuff
Do you use Brodak coloured dope or something else for paint?
Randolph dope is what I use. But Randolph makes Brodak dope.
I didnt see any fans or ventilation. Does the stink of the dope bother others in the house?
I do have fans at window
