Dick York's ending was not as sad as people think. He did spend his last years in poverty, but had a loving wife and circle of friends. Despite his debilitating emphysema, he spent his last years coordinating the delivery of food that was near expiration date from grocery stores to places that served food to the needy. He was a loving and caring person who, despite his poor health and poverty, still managed to serve the less fortunate.
I think he was the better Darrin also but I liked Dick Sargent also. I was glad he had a different take on the part and didn't try to copy Dick Yorks mannerisms. I get tired of people doggin on Sargent.

Born in the 60's, I watched Bewitched when I was just a young kid. It was one of my favorite shows to watch back then. My favorite actor in the show was always Elizabeth, she was amazing, but Dick York was a close second. He had the best facial impressions ever! I really enjoyed watching the episodes with York. What a fantastic show. As a little girl I used to try and twitch my nose in the mirror and do magic. Dick York was irreplaceable. You could tell he was a sweet soul just by that dear sweet face.😊
Here in my city Adelaide South Australia a local radio station would ring Dick every year to hear how he was going although he was suffering he was always upbeat RIP Dick your not forgotten 😢

Anyone who has to act with an on-screen partner, husband and wife, girlfriend boyfriend, especially on a series it's very difficult not to 'develop' a relationship and feelings for your co-star. One of those things that makes relationships and marriages very fragile in that industry.
Dick York was the real Darren Steven in my eyes. I had a little crush on him as 5 year old girl. I did not understand when they changed actors. Before that time, I thought the Steven's were a real family. The change, ironically broke the magic that was present in the relationship between Darren and Samantha. Rest in Peace Dick York

Sargent really had a difficult task and shoes to fill. He did a really good job considering all he had going against him. He really reminds me of Jack Lemmon

My dad was a Master Sergeant in the NY National Guard. Dick York was in his unit and one day an officer needed a driver. My dad assigned York to this detail but York told him that he couldn't drive a standard shift. So very early on a Saturday morning at Camp Smith Dick York learned to drive a standard shift.
No need to fret hierarchy issues, the man you just told me about sounds like a real trooper and a fine man. Not cut out to be a landlord, maybe, but clearly a fully qualified human being. Dick York ultimately became debilitated from both his back issues and chronic emphysema. He lived in a trailer in Michigan and used all the connections he made while an actor in Hollywood to help raise money for the homeless. Mr. York grew up very poor and knew first hand what it was like to struggle to survive
just saw him on 2 different episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock hour.... i thought he stood out as an above average actor, best acting i have seen out of him.
Dick York was done like garbage by Montgomery and Asher. He could have stayed on that show and played that part sitting on a couch or in a chair-----he was that good. Dick Sargent was a weak actor. Weak.
One of my favorite retro sit-coms! So cleverly written and acted …. York was my fav Darrin/Dustin/Derwood - Sargeant gave a valiant effort but he was a little stiff for the role …. So sad to lose EM at such a young age … but she’ll forever be Samantha Stevens in everyone’s hearts 💞 💫 🧹
Dick York definitely was the better Darrin. I never cared for Dick Sargent. He's usually referred to as the angry Darrin. While York's angriness as Darrin was always funny, Sargent's anger as Darrin was just downright mean and he hardly ever smiled. Something was always making him mad. I understand the debilitating back pain because I go through the same thing daily and it's very difficult to deal with at times and prevents you from doing a lot of things.
Dick York was my favorite. I love this show. I felt so bad when they changed Darrin. It wasn't the same, but the show was still good. I felt bad when they stopped this show. It was lighthearted, romantic, and funny. I have the series on DVD.
