I had the honor of knowing Jeremy for brief, brief moment in time. Junior High, late 80's, Kirkland Washington. We had Shop Class and he sat at my table. Wore a big black over coat and he was the "troublemaker" of the class....giving the teacher fits with his wry off kilter humor......wise and funny and deep waaaaay beyond his years. We werent "friends", we didnt "hang out" but it was sure cool to look back on it now. His music is just amazing and touches the soul.
Probably one of music's best kept secrets and most special and gifted practioners, been following Jeremy for what must be like 20 yrs and he just gets better with time
Simply astonishing. Maybe 100 years from now people will grasp his talent as it deserves. Perhaps not. How fortunate for we who get to hear this man sing.
An artist who sticks by his vision, unswayed by public opinion or the lure of fame and money, is a rare thing these days. Jeremy Enigk is one of those musicians.
Got to meet Jeremy once, and shake his hand at a SDRE show at the glasshouse, Pomona. Immense talent. When someone feels his music-you can tell. It communicates more than the music-it communicates the feelings and ideas behind that music in a way that a song alone simply cant. I was in highschool, and saved for weeks to get those tickets, and Im glad I did.
Speechless, but then again his music has always done that. Music's best kept secret. One of the few artists I can truly think of that has NEVER let me down.
Can't wait to see Jeremy Thursday in Seattle. This song always makes me well up and tear... a little taste of heaven. How can words describe? Wow Jeremy, you're the best brother! Play on and melt us as you do so well, good sir...
I just saw him play at Neumos in Seattle last night and he played this song on his guitar and it sounded awesome!!!! He had a 15 piece orchestra on stage with him. Words cannot describe his performance last night.
I keep coming back to watch this video....i cant get enough of it. I am happy as shit SDRE will be playing in chicago this september. I just noticed he is drinking a new castle....
Oh dear what a bonnie song so sad and yet so happy in the comfort that music, brings to the devastated and heartbroken! Love this I'm gonna cover it on mtn dulcimer"
Threw myself on the floor Chasing time At the door Half-past nine Self-control Lace your own heart On the door Night will mourn And I'm sleeping on the better debt of day Like the rising off They won't need me till tomorrow Night that claims the sky Forever dreams of a better day Half-past nine Rise at four Tracing time After all Casting iron Self-control Lace your heart On the door Night will mourn And I'm sleeping on the better debt of day Like the rising off They won't need me till tomorrow Night that claims the sky Forever dreams of a better day Say you'll be around
@AveryIslandTV agreed. I think people even then started to back-date the "emo" term and apply it to Rites of Spring as kind of the "birth of emo". It was really around the year 2000 or so when emo kind of took on the form of putting a look and fashion over the quality of the music associated with it.
OK...I posted on this video over a year ago, and still have to say the same thing...absolutely stunning! This version blows the album version away! JE...hope you are well.....
@BirchBigsleyBroShow I remember hearing Enigk say this was inspired by stay up late into the night and not being able to sleep. Not sure where I read/heard that.
Yeah no kidding. It's kinda funny because before I watched this I checked out 30 Seconds to Mars just for shits and giggles, and they, honestly, they kinda suck. Jared Leto wishes he was as soulful and talented as this guy. Amazing.
How does this only have 593 likes??? This is one of the best songs of my life.

Pretty sure this is the 26th time i listened to this today.
Simply astonishing. Maybe 100 years from now people will grasp his talent as it deserves. Perhaps not. How fortunate for we who get to hear this man sing.
Back because I needed to hear it again.

this gets more beautiful every time i listen to it. mournful and profound.
The master of beautiful music... So in touch with what a real musician really is. Guitar. Piano. Just a way to get his incredible vocals across.
One of the most unique and beautiful voices in music today.
Can't wait to see Jeremy Thursday in Seattle. This song always makes me well up and tear... a little taste of heaven. How can words describe? Wow Jeremy, you're the best brother! Play on and melt us as you do so well, good sir...
this song rips out my feelings from my whole body. Jeremy, only one word: unmatchable

@BirchBigsleyBroShow I remember hearing Enigk say this was inspired by stay up late into the night and not being able to sleep. Not sure where I read/heard that.

Something is wrong with a person who can't feel emotion to music" especially this man! !
Please come to Australia. Or Sweden after August. This ... No enough. You undrstand.

Chords are A, D, G.
Later in the chorus it changes to D, G, A. And he adds some other ones which I can't figure out yet.
Ir something like that
@AveryIslandTV absolutely right, when "EMO" meant something honest and good.

With the half emptied bottled just aside...
I've always thought that his voice doesn't go along with his appearance -- he looks like he should have a deeper voice. But his voice is so lovely.
He had an Irish accent on Return of the Frog Queen.
Emo shmeemo, emo or not this guy is awesome & talented.
i'm sure he always does:D
What kind of hoodie is he wearing?
dad_isaac_go_gardening I asked the same question and I check the comments once in awhile to see if anyone knows.
@AveryIslandTV there were emo(core) bands much earlier than SDRE
Grea
Say hi to one of the creators of Emotional music.
2:01... the groan of agony?
anyone else think Jeremy Enigk looks really like Phil Collins?
@NightSkiesBand how is it not emo?
Jeremy needs to front Blind Melon...
this mother fucker can sing
Or even both.
jeremy is not fucking around
people call this emo because his band sunny day real estate was one of the first bands 'labelled' emo. its a fucking joke.
Yeah no kidding. It's kinda funny because before I watched this I checked out 30 Seconds to Mars just for shits and giggles, and they, honestly, they kinda suck. Jared Leto wishes he was as soulful and talented as this guy. Amazing.
sleazattle isnt any better than LA bud ! but enigk is amazing anywhere he goes
i love his voice, but not so much the piano for some reason
emo befoer emo was emo
I'm sure Jeremy Enigk wouldn't consider his music Emo, but Emo was amazing when Seattle & Portland had it.....LA ruined it......LA destroys all music.
rigt. this is emo....
