I’ve always wondered whether she is wondering why her tea has gone cold, or why she got out of bed, at all. She should have explained herself better, because there’s no way to know what she’s wondering about, and that ruins the whole song. It’s hard to make any sense out of it, either way, because, first off, it should be obvious why her tea has gone cold. If it’s iced tea, then the frozen cubes of water would certainly be a contributing factor, along with the fact that it was likely refrigerated. If, however, she drinks hot tea, like a crazy person, then the temperature of the tea would’ve decreased, clearly, due to the cooler temperature of the air in the room. If she didn’t drink her hot tea quickly enough, then that would be the one, and the only, logical explanation for why it’s gone cold. If, on the other hand, she’s wondering why she got out of bed, at all, then that makes even less sense, unfortunately. She evidently made the decision to get out of bed, all on her own, so she should know why she did it. Maybe, she needed to take a leak, and she didn’t want to pee in her bed. Maybe, it could’ve been that she needed to take a dump. I have no idea why she did it, but she should know why, because she is the one who made the decision. It’s possible that she has amnesia, I guess. That would explain why she’s wondering about something that she shouldn’t need to wonder about, but, if that were the case, then it’s strange to think that her tea going cold would be such a major concern to her. It seems like having cold tea would be the least of her problems, if she had amnesia, and I doubt that it would be so important to her, that she’d want to make a song about it. Regardless of what it is that she’s wondering about, it doesn’t make any sense, at all, because there’s no reason to wonder about either of those things. As dumb as it is, though, either way, she should’ve specified which dumb thing it is that she’s wondering about, still, at the very least, but, of course, she doesn’t even do that, and that just makes it even worse. If you’re wondering why the song is so bad, and no one likes it, that’s one of the main reasons, probably.

This is really sad and even finding out that it’s fictional doesn’t change that. Truly a masterpiece of music and storytelling that sticks with you for a long time.
Who says this is fictional? If you mean that the person who inspired this song wasn't named Stan and didn't do exactly what Stan did then; Yeah, sure. But this is most definitely a true story in the sense that Marshall is writing about a fan/fans who have hurt themselves or others because he himself didn't have the energy or time to write back or show his appreciation and that he feels guilty over it. I'm sure not just famous people can relate to this song but probably people who just got caught up in themselves, their own lives or whatever at some point in their lives and didn't see the writing on the wall regarding friends or family who ended up hurting themselves or others.

Эминем спасибо за воспоминания, ты целая эпоха.
I played the heck outta the mmlp cd back in high school yet never realized how much of a masterpiece this was. I listen to this now is such appreciation of the way he delivers the story. The way Stan’s emotion changes and climaxes from beg to end. How Em effortlessly alters his voice/tone when getting into character. And just how poetic the entire song is.
Dude he is like 6-7 years old... as much as him he’s a kid he’s likes what ‘stan’ has showed him of Eminem and he’s grown to love it too but no not as much. He might like him as a ‘biggest fan’ but that’s as a kid. Stan is his real biggest fan like he says... hit me back your biggest fan this is Stan.
I always had known the short version of the video and didn't pay much attention to the lyrics for many years. Last week I read the lyrics on Spotify while it played on shuffle and I was today years old when I truly appreciated this masterpiece.
When the artist is just talking but you hear his emotions in every line he spits ....that shit never leaves you 😍😍🔥 pure talent...one of the best to do this 😍😍i am lucky to be alive ❤️❤️

*@nvrmndryo* and *@ramgadevadoo1780* I saw both your comments next to each other, and I started scratching my head because my own memory was hearing Stan for the first time in 1999. When I looked it up, it turns out I was wrong and it was released in 2000. Do the two of you live in places where it wasn't released until 2004/2005? Here is how I saw your comments in the comment section: *@nvrmndryo* 8 days ago I was 17 years old when I listened the song first time(around 2004-5). That day and today, I still get the goosebumps and I time travel to ‘04! *@ramgadevadoo1780* 1 day ago Literally mad that its already been 18 years since we were listening to this in 2005. I remember coming home from school and going straight to my room and listening to this song. Time flies man.
I don't know what to say other than that I am grateful that I wasn't overlooked. There's a lot of things that should be said, but I never know where to begin and who the message is really for, because people don't listen or seem to understand. I think it's great that people have taken the time to edify certain productions. Edification is love as it is said in a proverb. I'm not missed. I was here too. Just doing my best. Thanks.
Back when I was younger, I remember almost everyone hated Eminem during the Slim Shady LP. Lots of morality and rap purity grandstanding. There were a few who tried to say "You know the whole album is awesome, and this edit of My Name Is isn't as good as anything else on the album" almost no one would listen. Then somewhere between Forgot About Dre and Stan everyone just changed their opinion overnight. So, if you like Stan, I recommended listening to The Slim Shady LP in its entirety. Even if you don't appreciate the psychotically entertaining stories and incredibly tight verses, there's at least the background to the Slim Shady concept Stan is obsessed with in this song.
Send this to Dream Stans, let them know THIS is what Stan truly means, its not another way of being called a fan. Because this beautiful song illustrates it perfectly.
@fuck censorship 2 kpoop stans are another level. They really think that the other fans and their idols will like them for being immature snowflakes. The whole kpop fandom hates them for this. Especially since they harming the idols and the whole fandom by doing so. We can't even mention that we like kpop anymore without being harassed or degraded thanks to these stupid people.
@@ymj4256 The reason why kpop fans did this is because there is already another word that is used to describe obsessive stalkers. They kept that word, and gave stan a new meaning. I don't agree with this, but it honestly seems too late to fix that mistake.
Views don’t classify a masterpiece at all. Songs that aren’t masterpieces have a billion, and there are a lot of undiscovered masterpieces with small amounts of views. Plus 600 million isn’t so bad.
Thats like saying all paintings should express anger. You type of people are tunnel visioned, regardless of your view on your opinion and how it may "cure" the hip-hop scene. It is directly the incorrect way to look at things, end of story.
@@mercifulmerc He doesn't mean all music should be about hate...Just that all songs should actually mean something instead of just talking about money and women
Eminem was killed & replaced in 2006. The new Eminem is a clone. Public enemy number one was his last song and he predicts his death. RIP Eminem 1972-2006
I love how this song exists and there are still stans in the world that think being a Stan makes them quirky and unique even if the song is supposed to be about why you SHOULDN’T be a Stan.
The word “Stan” originated from this song, so no, the song was not about why you shouldn’t be a Stan. It describes a person named Stan being obsessed with Eminem
Panda_doodle_art Nah it was about why you shouldn’t be a stan in one of ems interviews he talked about that song was a message to his fans and not to act like that so technically it was why you shouldn’t be a stan
Oh my God. What a song! I listened to this song and never understood the lyrics but absolutely loved Dido and eminems singing. But it is such an amazing and horrifying experience to fully understand the lyrics. It's looking watching a horror movie unfold really - can't stand to watch it but couldn't stop either. What am amazing song and narrative. All I have to say is I'm glad it isn't based on a real story.
" I loved you slim we couldve been been together think about it you ruined it now i hope you cant sleep and you dream about it and when you dream i hope cant sleep and you scream about it i hope your conscious eats at you and you cant breathe without it'' RIP STAN
It should be illegal to censor a song this much. Seriously. Flat-out illegal. If you don't like a deep serious story with a couple swear words, just go listen to "baby shark" on replay and leave our music alone.
“before you hurt yourself, I think that you’ll be doing just fine if you just relax a little. I’m glad I inspire you but Stan why are you so mad, try to understand that I do want you as a fan. I just don’t want you to do some crazy shit. I’ve seen this one shit on the news a couple weeks ago that made me sick.”

No man, it's actually perfect. Fill in the censored parts with random shit and upload it. You could call it the "Uncensored censored parody" or something like that
What’s so remarkable about “Stan” is how it reconfigured the dynamic between artist and audience, ultimately bequeathing us an entire neologism (“stan”) that captures the fanatic edge of fandom. On one level, it’s a gripping narrative track-Eminem inhabiting the persona of a spiraling fan-but beneath the raw intensity is a commentary on celebrity culture, mental health, and the moral weight artists carry when their words fuel real-life obsessions. A few hidden layers come through when you take a closer look: 1. The Collision of Melancholy and Rage Dido’s “Thank You” sample infuses a wistful, almost tender chorus, creating a dreamlike effect that contrasts sharply with Eminem’s aggressive verses. This tension underscores the song’s emotional whiplash: the calm, reflective anchor (Dido) vs. Stan’s mounting desperation and hostility. The composition itself is a meta-statement on how gentle admiration can mutate into destructive obsession. 2. The Birth of a Cultural Lexicon The term “stan” has outgrown its origin story, becoming shorthand for hyper-devoted fans across all of pop culture. This phenomenon highlights how art can catalyze linguistic evolution. What began as a fictional scenario-an extreme cautionary tale about parasocial relationships-now surfaces daily in discussions about Twitter fandoms or K-pop super fans. The English language effectively co-opted Eminem’s narrative to describe a very real social dynamic. 3. Narrative Rap as a Mirror “Stan” is part of Eminem’s tradition of constructing story-driven tracks, but here he turns the lens outward onto the listener-artist relationship. It’s not just Eminem referencing personal demons or social issues; the story implicates fans who interpret an artist’s lyrics literally or see the artist as a personal confidant. In that sense, the track is an intricate reflection on how celebrity worship can go off the rails when empathy meets obsession in a context of mental fragility. 4. Mental Health & Accountability At its core, “Stan” puts on display the rawness of untreated mental health issues-Stan’s delusions build in each verse-yet it also subtly questions where an artist’s responsibility ends and personal accountability begins. Should Eminem (as the artist) have any blame for Stan’s meltdown simply by virtue of his provocative lyrics, or is that blame misplaced? The song never gives a neat resolution, but the tension of that question resonates through pop culture to this day. 5. The Visual Element: Cinematic Structure The music video’s long version underscores Stan’s progressive unraveling, practically playing like a short film. The drab, claustrophobic settings amplify the sense of entrapment in Stan’s mind. Dido’s cameo, as the girlfriend locked in the trunk, becomes a visual metaphor for how Stan’s personal relationships are ultimately subsumed by his fan-fueled illusions. In a broader sense, it’s rap that moves beyond the standard performance video to a twisted narrative piece. In the End “Stan” was-and still is-more than a chart-topping track. It’s a cultural artifact that thrust a light on the sometimes unnerving synergy between public persona and devoted follower, fused a haunting melodic sample with gritty rap storytelling, and gave us new language for discussing fan culture run amok. If anything, the track’s relevance only grows in an age of social media, where lines between creator and consumer blur daily, and the phenomenon of “stanning” is visible 24/7. Eminem’s “Stan” stands as a potent reminder of how a single song can change the way we talk about fandom-and caution us about the hidden costs of obsession.
I was too young when this song came out. This is the only song I can't memorize the lyrics because it is very long and made no sense to me as the time. Listening to it now on spotify while on my earphones I was so amazed on how great the story is made and on how tragic it can be. Very lyrical and up beat!
I was 8 when I watched it without the stupid censors. I understand why people may feel upset about the song but it is meant to be like that so people would realise how bad fan-obsession really is.
This song has so much story telling.Masterpeice.

I played the heck outta the mmlp cd back in high school yet never realized how much of a masterpiece this was. I listen to this now is such appreciation of the way he delivers the story. Stan Marsh is a pretty decent guy
I rode my bike to best buy and bought the album. I was 13, luckily it was right before they started to ask for ID..
kids at my school loved eminem. especially the boys.
but in my country Napster and such softwares were alot more popular than physical albums.

A few hidden layers come through when you take a closer look:
1. The Collision of Melancholy and Rage
Dido’s “Thank You” sample infuses a wistful, almost tender chorus, creating a dreamlike effect that contrasts sharply with Eminem’s aggressive verses. This tension underscores the song’s emotional whiplash: the calm, reflective anchor (Dido) vs. Stan’s mounting desperation and hostility. The composition itself is a meta-statement on how gentle admiration can mutate into destructive obsession.
2. The Birth of a Cultural Lexicon
The term “stan” has outgrown its origin story, becoming shorthand for hyper-devoted fans across all of pop culture.
3. Narrative Rap as a Mirror
“Stan” is part of Eminem’s tradition of constructing story-driven tracks, but here he turns the lens outward onto the listener-artist relationship.
4. Mental Health & Accountability
At its core, “Stan” puts on display the rawness of untreated mental health issues-Stan’s delusions build in each verse-yet it also subtly questions where an artist’s responsibility ends and personal accountability begins. Should Eminem (as the artist) have any blame for Stan’s meltdown simply by virtue of his provocative lyrics, or is that blame misplaced? The song never gives a neat resolution, but the tension of that question resonates through pop culture to this day.
5. The Visual Element: Cinematic Structure
The music video’s long version underscores Stan’s progressive unraveling, practically playing like a short film.
In the End
“Stan” was-and still is-more than a chart-topping track.
