    Thanks for the vid. Can you provide a link where I can purchase the gofanco adapter. I’ve been looking for an adapter like this to run the ar glasses and being able to power/charge the steam deck at the sam3 time.

      There is apparently another adapter (or 2) that I learned about today that might also work. The first is the SIIG HDMI to USB C adapter (which I knew about before the review) but is usually more expensive than the Gofanco.
      The one I learned about today is the Redmagic Gaming Dock. I don't have a trustworthy link for that one, but it's listed on aliexpress and other sites.
      Here's the link for the Gofanco and SIIG adapters (both OOS at the moment, but they come in and out of stock often):

    I got a pair and I’m going to return them. The permissions they ask for are crazy. Full access to everything on your phone / computer and a clause that says “we can send your data to another country that has different privacy laws”. That basically says you are legally exposing everything your phone/computer has access to. Bank accounts, personal data etc. it my sound paranoid but I’m prior military intelligence. Believe me, that can be abused like crazy.

This device looks awesome but if it seriously has full access to my entire phone or device and can export any of that data somewhere else…that’s a dealbreaker 100%. It’s pretty much a hardware Trojan horse. Irresistible tech, just like google and the evil empire. Anyways, your review is absolutely perfect. Great to have a non-sponsored review. Cheers.

    Do they have any official adapter that lets you charge the Steamdeck while you use the glasses yet? I know you could prob get a dock to do that but would prefer something small and officially supported incase of compatibility issues affecting visuals or something.

      Thanks for your comments! As far as I know, there's no official adapter for a Steam Deck. There is an adapter for the Switch which sells on Amazon. And yeah you're right about the dock, I used a hub in the video but you could use a dock to do the same thing (as the middle step) I'm looking into another 3rd party adapter and hope to be able to do a comparison of a few once I get them in.

    I've been using mine over a month and I'm loving it! using it for gaming with my Nubia red magic 7, and these are amazing. aside from this I use it for watching content. also about the lack of ports, go to the reddit sub of Nreal, there are lots of users posting and solving the ports with docks, Nreal is also said working on adapters for that. personally Im using the gaming dock that came with my Red magic "Red magic gaming dock", it have two usb c, one for charging and other one for data/video and third port is 3.5 jack for audio and mic. I use the glasses while charging the phone, users does used this dock with their steam deck and it worked as per them. the dock worked for me on my other phone Note 20 ultra. I did use it on Nintendo switch but seems like the switch works with HDMI adapters only. but there are some other adapters and docks that works.
    also, it is AR glasses, it does have sensors when you move your head, I was looking at their 3d augmented app for Mac m1, it let you set up screens around you and look at it while working and same time augmented seeing around you, but I think it's still in beta, but hopefully they bring it to Windows.
    for the steamdeck frame lock issue, I think they pushed update for the glasses framework and fixed that.

    • @gamers-generation
      @gamers-generation  Год назад +1

      Thanks for your detailed comment and suggestions! I did order a redmagic adapter, it'll be awhile until I can do a follow up video since the shipping on it has been delayed though sadly... It is curious about the switch, it must be something to do with Nintendo locking it down or limiting it in some way....
      I agree about the AR glasses... another comment that said it's not -- I think is thinking more so of MR.
      As for the framerates, I will try looking for a firmware update, I didn't see any changes last night when I was using them, still the same behavior in the games I tried at least.

      @@gamers-generation Hello, follw the Nreal reddit sub, I think they pinned the post for the update, you need laptop or android, I updated the glasses on my Android on their app Nebula, once you update the app then connect the glasses it will auto update it, don't unplug it until it's finished updating.
      Glad you got the Nubia gaming dock, it's really good, just the type c port is side mounted and bulky, but I think it's not a problem for the steamdeck, I used a type c extension cabe to solve that 😅.
      for the Nintendo switch, I think it has to do with their hardware, same as iPhones, it needs the adapter to allow video out, unlike on steamdeck, and Android some of it have video out capabilities on that type c port so all you need is a compatible right type c cable to connect it to the display or these glasses. what I love about the red magic dock is I can still use the MR on their Nebula app with it, but some user on reddit told me it doesn't work with his Samsung Z flip, he got a defective one as per him, for me it works with both Note 20 and red magic 7, Im pretty amazed how Nubia made this dock because believe me you won't find many docks online that have this features, especially two type c for charging and video out, most of it is even expensive and only have hdmi. I was so confused searching for days to find such dock but didn’t even know I have already one that came with my red magic phone that can do this.. haha.
      sorry for my bad English 😄

      Update: sorry, I didn't check well, check the about tab on the sub reddit, second post have link will gets you to the new update information, the link for the 3.2.1 apk and other ways to firmware update it is there. Good luck! 😁

    Great thorough review! I’ve been somewhat considering picking up some sort of AR glasses to try out for various reasons (gaming being one) for some time now, but hadn’t heard of this brand yet. I’ve noticed my steam deck doesn’t get remotely close to the battery life it’s claimed to be capable of even with all the settings optimized for maximum battery life, so I imagine I’d have to have everything plugged in in order to have any session with these for longer than an hour or so. I’m sure the price will come down at some point soon, but it doesn’t sound overly expensive for what they are.
    BTW, for a new channel with only a handful of subscribers, this was a great quality video! Wishing you lots of success with your channel, and will be looking for more from you in the future in terms of cool tech reviews like this. 👍

      Thank you so much for your kind words and support!
      With regards to the deck battery life, while I was using the glasses with the deck (playing Spider-Man), I found I could play about 2-2.5 hrs before I felt the need to charge (battery would drop to maybe 25% from 100%) if that helps gauge anything at all. With the adapter, it definitely sidesteps that issue though.
      Also for your reference, there are two other AR glasses I'm aware of (The Rokid Airs I mentioned) and TCL glasses which are on kickstarter right now. All of the specs seem fairly similar with a few different features between them.
      Thanks again for your support and comment!

    I liked this review a-lot coming from a gamer. You got the answers!
    I have some questions of my own:
    1. Are there any input delays? My setup will be plugged into a PC and playing FPS competitive games
    2. Reliability scale 1-10?-Have you experienced any slowdowns or stutters or crashes? For example, running too many tabs or while gaming
    Unrelated question: How good is the steam deck for remote play? (Single player games and competitive)

    • @gamers-generation
      @gamers-generation  Год назад +3

      Thank you for your kind words! As for your questions:
      1. I didn't notice any real input delay when playing on my Steam Deck, I didn't try on my desktop or laptop though. And unfortunately I don't play competitively -- I will say I would expect at least some input delay though since it's using HDMI 2.0 for the desktop conversion, and I can't find information on which version of DisplayPort but I imagine it's not 2.0 so there should be at least some delay.
      2. I'd give it an 8 or 9 for reliability. I didn't notice any stutters really when paired with my deck, but once in a blue moon the image disappeared -- I assume that's more cable related than anything though.
      f
      3. I've only used remote play on my deck seldomly, but it works very well assuming you have a good connection at home and whatever your deck is connected to. From my testing, I didn't notice any real input delay and the controls all mapped correctly to the deck. You'll have to let me know if there's a specific title you're looking at though as I've heard some people haven't had good luck (particularly with unsupported games).

    So for use on a Series X or PC without USB C on the GPU: With a powered adapter, you can go HDMI or DP to USB C and use these as a display for your Xbox or PC?

    • @gamers-generation
      @gamers-generation  Год назад +1

      Presumably yes, I haven't tested DP to USB-C, but I assume that would just require an adapter rather than a converter (since it's the DisplayPort Alt Mode that carries the video signal). I've tested the HDMI to USB-C which works just like plugging in another monitor as it's recognized as an additional display. I intend to do an adapter comparison once I get a few more in hand. I wonder if they will have this so you can order it in Canada. It's like 700 something CDN almost 800 to buy from US site to Canada. Not that I would endorse any specific seller, but have you looked on eBay? I actually got my pair shipped from Japan before they started selling in the US. In Canada you should still be protected by eBay Buyer Protection if anything goes wrong -- of course the issue though is if you simply don't want them anymore -- so until Amazon Canada stocks them, returns might be a bit of a hassle... Do note that there are other glasses I didn't mention (outside the Rokid Air) since I just recently learned of them (both are on crowdfunding sites at the moment):
      Dreamglass Flow (this one has an official adapter which they say supports Steam Decks, this looks similar to the Rokid Airs in terms of looks.)
      TCL NXTwear S (made by the TV company TCL, has replaceable/interchangeable front glasses pieces)
      Their specs all seem pretty similar bar a few slightly different features between all of the glasses.

    I saw a different review that stated these are heavily in need of an update. But from me getting a Rokid, and wanting to switch between my Switch to Pc via the adapter, I'd say it's worth it as a wearable monitor. With my Rokid, I'd always use that for my video game while the other monitors are for random guides or other media I would prioritize watching while playing; I also do switch between my Switch and PC with the Rokid. So the upgrade I'd get is to go from a 120" to 200" visual, and to stop looking like the Terminator. The "VR" aspect of the glasses were something I haven't been real interested in.

    • @gamers-generation

      If you already have the Rokid Airs I'm not sure this would be much of an upgrade at all, or even a sidegrade for that matter. Mind you I've not had hands on experience with the Rokid Airs, but from the specs sheets I've looked at they appear to be nearly identical.
      You do get that change in "look" for sure, if you don't like that "cyperpunk" or "terminator" look as you described. I believe though that TCL is coming out with (or has recently launched) the NXTWEAR S glasses which are also very similar to the Nreals and Rokids but have removable/replaceable frames (just the lens parts) for a different look.

      Sorry I haven't tried this myself but I'm inclined to think that it might either slide from the weight, not fit properly, or just be unviewable. The reason they look way better and sharper with no SDE, compared to the Q2 is the video content is 100% dedicated to the Nreal lenses. The Q2 resolution is spread out twice as much, so if watching a movie as example, it's actually lower resolution for the movie content, since also rendering the environment. I have a Q2 and no longer use it for video. I use the Nreal. Also, the app IMO uses too much device resources and lowers battery life. Best to not use the app, IMO and they are too delicate to jog with and not that water resistant. Sweat could mess it up.

I work night-shifts), I connect to the work wifi 500mbit/s fiber, 5ghz and stream from my gaming PC at home which is ethernetcabled to my router and is also on 500mbit/s fiber.

    Can these replace a gaming monitor?
    Think about that: the projector is plenty big but since it's phisically very small (even though you are very close aswell) resolution shouldn't be an issue, because pixel density SHOULD be even higher than a typical 4k screen.
    Basically, did you experience lack of details or aliasing?
    This might be the cheapest way to get an oled monitor without selling a kidney.
    Also, what's the exact resolution? you said 2x1080, therefore 3840*1080, so is this an ultra ultra wide or is this a 16:9? I think you can check that by looking at what resolution your game is set at.
    The only issues might be refresh rate (I've read somewhere that you can unlock it by updating the firmware) and the lack of any type of variable refresh rate.
    Also, how's motion blur and input lag on these? It's a pretty big deal for OLED compared to normal LCD.
    And lastly, how's eye fatigue? Are they more fatiguing to use compared to a monitor?
    Sorry for the too many questions.

    • @gamers-generation
      @gamers-generation  Год назад +1

      By gaming monitor, do you mean a high refresh rate monitor with low response latency? If so, then I'm thinking no. Definitely not for competitive gaming. However, for casual gaming, especially for single player RPGs that don't rely on high frame rates, I absolutely think these (and other AR glasses of this style) are a nice alternative; especially if you live in a smaller space, or its difficult to wall mount a big screen etc.
      With regards to a cheap OLED, those are coming down in price -- since there are more companies making them -- but OLED monitors have their own issues as well depending on the amount of ambient light in your viewing area, not to mention the burn-in.
      For resolution, their specs indicate 1920x1080 per eye, so yes close to a 3840x1080 theoretically, even though I don't think that's how the math technically works as your eye's don't literally see double the pixels (this is likely a marketing ploy, just like how "4K" is actually 2160p, and not 4000p). The aspect ratio is 16:9 as far as I can tell. Since the FOV is limited, I don't think ultrawide viewing is technically supported -- at least not right now.
      As for the refresh rate.. it's a strange thing -- I was playing Star Wars Squadrons the other day and noticed the FPS would bounce around between 45 and 90, 90 which is supposed to be the device's max refresh rate -- but 45 being half -- which is what I had been seeing in other games. So as I mentioned in the video, it doesn't seem like the FPS counter is accurately displaying the numbers at least not in my experience, but I could absolutely be off here.
      In terms of motion blur, I usually turn it off in the games I play so I don't really notice it -- I have read people saying they've experienced ghosting issues but I haven't tried the UFO test on it or anything -- maybe in a follow up video. Input lag seems... fine? I don't have any equipment to actually test this, but I also don't play games competitively; unfortunately their website also doesn't give any of this information.
      Last, I haven't suffered any eye fatigue but I have read some people reporting strain after an hour or so -- so it's probably one of those your mileage may vary (YMMV) cases.

      Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately I don't think so. Based on my research, it's a bit complicated to get SteamVR working on the deck, and if you could, it probably couldn't run many titles well -- that's not even mentioning the limited ability the Nreals would have. Reviewers of this device seem to omit the fact that you can't have 3 or more floating screens on Windows 10 because they don't have a Windows "Nebula App" to do that. So all it ends up being is a larger screen floating in the air. Same goes for iPhone/iOS use. Really these headsets are only designed for Android devices because that is where you get the full intended experience. You only get a partial experience if you plugin to Windows 10 laptop or an iPhone. You get just one big screen on PC or iOS but when you run the Nebula app on an Android device, you can have multiple floating screens like a triple monitor setup. This is keeping me from buying these as I was really hoping there was at least some development for Windows/iOS devices but there isn't. In fact none of these thin AR glasses give you triple monitors or more on any other operating system other than Android.

      Thanks for your comment. While I didn't explicitly state that there isn't a Nebula App for Desktop (I've reached out to them for more information) I don't think I omitted the limited functionality per se, as I said that the display is limited to your central vision, this is true regardless of what device you're using. Yes, you're correct that none of these AR glasses give you the triple monitor setup, you'd likely need something with greater FOV for that (seems like that tech isn't ready yet).
      At the same time, anything other than say a Quest 2 or Pico 4 is going to cost you more than $400 for a triple monitor set up... even three monitors. Just to be clear though I'm not endorsing the product over 3 monitors or a VR headset just because it's "cheaper" though.
