    Every ACL tear I've witnessed was on my high school's astro turf football field. My buddy in 7th grade on the high school field, 3 kids my freshman year, 2 my sophomore year, and I don't even know how many on Varsity. My buddy had to have both of his knees replaced at 17 after a simple contact drill at practice destroyed his right knee and tore two ligaments in his left. Doctors told him it was a freak accident, but I have a hard time believing the field had nothing to do with it.

    i believe he has a history of hamstring issues but i’m not sure which side of the body he’s had those issues on. i feel that a combination of decreased active stability from the hamstrings combined with possible decreased eccentric control from the L gastrocsoleus complex related to his achilles injury led to increased anterior translation of the L tibia straining the ACL. would love to see a frontal plane view of the injury though.

    I just wanna say it's crazy how we all take stuff like this for granted. These athletes put their bodies through absolute hell. Training most likely multiple hours each day intensely, then playing a high contact, extremely fast paced and physical sport. They push their bodies to the absolute limit and it's crazy.
    Also, I'm not qualified whatsoever but I could only assume that having injuries in the hamstring, quads, achilles, etc could only make knee injuries, and other lower body injuries, even more likely

    If you watch his knee when he is planting to slow down you can see the thigh kind of slide to the outside and rotate slightly because he is looking back. It’s slight and quickly obscured by the right leg but you can see the impact and the slight movement from it. I’ve had my knees shift and just give out on me before stopping like that. Luckily nothing tore but I could easily see it happening.

    My son just tore his ACL in a non contact play during practice (he's a sophomore in high school) we thought there maybe some genetic thing going on because he was having pain towards the rear making us think the PCL was damaged and I tore my PCL and MCL my junior year in high school, but my injury was contact (think Thiesman or Chubb) gruesome. Luckily he didn't damage any other ligament or his meniscus or patella so he should have a full recovery

    I gotta think if this happened while he was just basically jogging that this was a ticking time bomb. It’s probably more related to his previous injuries but if a ligament can break that easily without a lot pressure being forced on it I have to think it was an injury just waiting to happen. For some reason that ACL just wasn’t stable and it was only a matter of time before it gave out.

    Being quad dominant with under use / weak hamstring can knee inStability leads to strain / tear to ACL. I feel that why most athlete are heavy focus on quad and not enough on hamstring training lead to non acl tears. If hamstrings are under active the quads will Compensate. He has a history of hamstring that being said his Eccentric contraction is shot and the quad compensating inwhich that it’s not proper function maybe lead to acl torn

    • @darrenleary5534
      @darrenleary5534 Год назад

      I think it is mainly the style of play. Rugby is a lot rougher by nature, but most tendon injuries in football seem to happen in non-contact incidents. I don't really think the turf is too blame as there are some grass fields that are infamous for causing injuries, FedEx field is a good example. Has singlehandedly claimed multiple careers and numerous ACLs.

    When I saw this play happen live I immediately said "oh. He inside heel hooked himself." Toes point outward slightly. Heel pointed INSIDE (hence inside heel hook) Knee comes in. All bodyweight transferred to the ACL and MCL. Same mechanism of injury the inside heel hook is designed to produce.
    To me this injury is neither strange or confusing. I've had it done to me and done it to other people.
    Doc, you should do a few videos on certain MMA techniques and how some moves are designed to produce certain mechanisms for injury in a specific way. Like heel hooks, oblique kicks. I'm pretty sure you've done the liver kick already.
    The things you're aiming for in combat sports tend to be the same mechanism we tend to see happen in other sports accidentally.

    Just watching the few steps of him running at the start of the video and it looked like his feet always contacted the ground either mostly flat or at least after his toes already started rotating down towards the ground, but on the step where he got injured his foot landed just a split second earlier and all of his weight came down on the point of his heel while his toes were pointed more upwards and his heel acted almost like a fulcrum snapping the front of his foot down. I have no idea whether this contributed to the injury, was caused by the injury, or is completely unrelated to the injury but that last step just looked completely mechanically different than the previous steps with either foot.

Guys now are just running down the field and their knees pop. I still think the let up on practices during the week lays the foundation for this happening.

    He landed on his outer heel area, which landed close to the center plane of the body as his body was tilted looking at the int? When his leg went down, the tortion in his upper hip was spent, so it had to twist elsewhere. Knee or ankle. Since his ankle was secure by the cleats in the grass, his knee had a rotation force on them. Just a guess.
