    Episode 69
Kirby's Dream Land is an impressive debut for one of Nintendo's biggest stars! Since its release, Kirby has been in tons of games - from platforming to pinball - every Super Smash Bros, and even has his own Anime series!
You may think the original Kirby's Dream land is an easy game, but you may be surprised to find out the "Extra Game" - a bonus hard mode that can be unlocked with a simple code - not only features new enemies and boss patterns, but is actually quite difficult! If you want to see the game's TRUE ENDING, you'll have to beat this mode!
Today, the Kirby series is till going strong with the fully 3D Kirby and the Forgotten Land for the Nintendo Switch, but it all started right here on the Game Boy! So how did HAL Laboratory bring us this amazing game? In today's episode we'll find out, then we'll dive deep into the game play where we'll learn:
    * How to beat EVERY LEVEL on the NORMAL and EXTRA MODES!
    * SECRET CODES to make the game much easier, or much more challenging!
    * Full MAPS of every level!
    * Where to find EVERY HIDDEN ITEM!
    * Defeat LOLOLO with the CURRY POWER, and other tricks!
    * How to unlock the game's hidden SOUND TEST!
    * Where to find EVERY HIDDEN ROOM!
    * How to defeat EVERY BOSS... even KING DEDEDE himself... AND MORE!
    Thanks for watching!

This was the first game I ever beat by myself, and I managed to find all the secrets without help, which surprised me. Masahiro Sakurai taught us to notice the little details. I believe you missed a secret in Krakow's stage. In the section with the long, narrow corridor of star blocks, you'll notice a pillar at the end is halfway into its floor. Jump up through there, head all the way to the left, and bump into the bottom of the pillar at the end to knock loose an item inside the gap. Jump through the top of that pillar to grab it! On hard mode, you do need to avoid the falling stars this time. Also, when in fly mode, you float on the water's surface.

In Bubbly Clouds, the long room with the curry and blocks, there's a secret 1up. About 3/4 through, you'll see a pillar that comes down a half-block into the ceiling. It's false, so jump up through then walk all the way to the end of the screen. A 1up will drop from the sky behind the wall, then you can jump over it through another false block to collect it.
Also, in Extra mode the stars that fall from the sky do damage in that room and others.

    • @ZorotheGallade
      @ZorotheGallade 2 года назад

And later games gave Kirby a crazy moveset. Dashing, jumping, bouncing, guarding, dodging, spotdodging, all the different kind of dash and jump-dash attacks from different copy abilities, and the latest one even gave him a *dodge and counter* move. Kirby is just awesome to control. You can still finish the game just by using the basic copy ability moveset, but you can be as flashy as you want if you learn the different techs.

One thing I found with DeDeDe is that when he runs at you with his hammer he will go to where you are standing. If you are standing in the very edge when he starts the attack he will go to the edge. I've found to stay away from the corners and back up to them when he begins his hammer charge, he'll attack where you were and give you room grab the star that is produced. You'll have to be out of the corners before he starts, because once he begins its already locked to your position.

    Happy Anniversary, Kirby!
Kirby is one of my favorite franchises, and characters, of all time. I have a very long history of enjoying the series, over 20 years. Dream Land 3 was my introduction to Kirby, and I haven't missed a game since. This is the game that started it all, though, and it is an absolute Game Boy classic! Thank you so much for covering it, I'd like to see you do more GB games now.

39:46 My strategy here was always to just stay on the left side as I fly up and the coconut will miss you, much like how the coconut is on the left side in the normal game and you can hang right and it will miss you.
46:21 The stars that fall in the corridor in extra game actually deal damage.
But I never have seen the curry trick against Lololo and Lalala and also noticed that a Cawcun (the pelican enemy) in the Mint Leaf area of Bubbly Clouds Extra Game shot projectiles.

I'm very sure it was one of if not THE first game I ever completed as a kid. It had just the right amount of difficulty for me back in the day.
I do remember having a REALLY hard time with Dedede because I could figure out how to actually deal damage to him.
I thought those start he'd let out from his attacks were merely decorative effects, not something you could inhale and use against him xD

I've never played, or even seen any other Kirby game than Kirby's Adventure on Nes, and I played that game alot. Its cool to see where the elements of that game got their start. I always felt the music of the last playable stage of Kirby's Adventure was a bit out of place, and now learned its the level 1 music of this game. Nice little throwback, as well as the title screen music of this game being included in the unlockable sound test from Kirby's Adventure. Another great video, as always!

I think that the Ability to copy was partially inspired by the Curry/Spicy food(Fire) and Mint Leaf(Ice) respectively.
Also, partly inspired by Rockman/MegaMan. Somebody HAD to have looked at the enemies attacks from the first KDL and thought "How can Kirby utilize those abilities without it taking up too much space?" Then they looked into Mega Man's dynamic (Copies the ability of the Robot Master he defeats), and made it more convenient and fun (Copy basic enemies, defeated mini bosses, and certain boss attacks).

I always thought that the magic food bag looked more like a ladybug.

In castle Lololo, in the room with the circle of enemies, if you hop over that block in the center of the room (the one on top of the pyramid) you'll get a maxim tomato.

I noticed in the previous video when putting the game cart in the nes you had Kirby's dreamland in the super Gameboy add on for the snes. I thought to myself "I wonder if this will be a video soon" lol.

Amazing that you made a video nearly an hour long for a game that you can beat in 20 minutes

Loving these. Do you plan on doing Ultima Exodus? As a kid, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing in that game, but I absolutely enjoyed playing it.

For the 2nd boss in extra mode, I usually stay on the third row by the left or right opening upwards. It makes it easier to grab the block from behind and avoid both of them.

I'd always thought that Lolo and Lala having an extra syllable in Kirby meant that the king's name was pronounced Dede. That is also how they pronounced it in the Kirby's Adventure commercial in the US.
