Reminds me a Toshiba laptop I used to work on. The sales brochure claimed the chassis used a honeycomb structure for rigidity and lightness. The little panel door that covered the memory and HDD had the honeycomb pattern on the inside surface of the panel. But when I removed the entire back panel of the laptop to access the system board, the panel was just a regular smooth panel of magnesium like any other laptop. So, like maybe 2% of the laptop actually used a honeycomb pattern in it.

Great video ~ taking the time to find the truth of the shoe is great to see. As a person with a large and flat foot, this in-depth study definitely matters to me and I appreciate what you're doing.
I remember when this shoe first came out. This colorway is fresh in my book. But Nike has never and I mean never, been great regarding comfort to me. Before I started wearing orthotics when I was young and wasn't feeling pain in my feet, Nike didn't understand comfort. And after I started wearing orthotics for my flatfeet in my late teens, they still hadn't grasped it. They grasp style. They have legendary history that connects with pop culture. But they simply do not understand what it is to build for comfort. And even with orthotics, the comfort in a shoe still matters.
While this bubble feature on the shoe looks appealing, it's nothing but eye candy to me that doesn't give lasting comfort. Especially that supposed bubble under the heel. I can tell that doesn't do much of anything. Just as you guys said, it would seem as if heel pressure would disperse air within the bubble underneath to the bubble we can visibly see to give more comfort to your heel as it lands on the ground, but even that effect looks minimal if not giving anything at all. And in cutting it, we can see the truth. While every shoe eventually wears out its welcome with use over time, shoe companies can often fool people with aesthetics when the shoe really isn't much of a gamechanger. And as you get older, that matters more and more, especially if you value comfort and a softer touch in a shoe. I personally don't wear Nike anymore because of that, but I still appreciate some of the great styles and colorways they often have from a distance.
My go-to athletic shoe these days tends to be Asics with their built-in orthotic style soles for flatfeet like the Asics Gel-Kayanos and others. I'd love to see a video done for the latest Asics running shoe for flatfeet runners and gym-bodies.

BTW, Nike used to have a replacement service, if your air bubble popped, they would send you a new pair - of whatever the latest version of that shoe was. I had new Nike Air Pegasus and new Nike Air 180s out of them. They didn't publicize it, but it might have been something to do with the 2 year standard warrantee (in UK & Europe).

The old Reebok DMX system (Reebok Answer 1) had individual air "pods" that were all interconnected and you could feel the air moving around as you put pressure down with your foot, some of the most comfortable shoes I had growing up. Would be cool to see an old pair of them cut apart.

I haven't paid but $120 for a pair of Nike running shoes in the past three years. I've gotten everything from the Peg Turbo 2, Infinity Run, and regular Pegasus. For that price Nike's shoes are excellent compared to the competition.

Nike's had some neat looking stuff that i wanted to try back when i ran more. unfortunately, nike doesn't do wide sizes so i can't wear anything they make. i managed to squeeze my feet into a pair of "wide" nike frees once and, on top of being super tight, it was like walking on a railroad track. i could get maybe 3 1/2 toes on the sole, and the rest were just bulging out the side.
Thanks again for the introduction to Redbacks by the way. They've been possibly the most comfortable thing i've ever worn, right up there with the new balance 577v1's that were previously the only thing i could find that were wide and comfy enough for all the walking around i have to do at work.

I agree re good cushion - especially after massive back surgery fusing 10 cervical and thoracic verebrae in 2020, which meant I needed to learn how to walk again, a process made easier and more enjoyable thanks to a brand new pair of comfortable right out of the box RedBack boots. The Saucony and ASICS runners I used to buy also gave me that, as have my RedBack Boots - none of them have involved gimmicky features which creatd the illusion of being so much better and more comfortable than anything else, and often at higher cost. Back in the day I ran with a pair of the early Nike airs, and found them inferior to the (one and only pair) of Brooks I had been wearing. Of course everyone's experience varies. Having said that, I am thankful that on this site we get some pretty objective and well informed perspectives (which is why I got the RedBacks once I got of hospital)!

The Nike Shox R4 would be an interesting shoe to look at. I believe they were ahead of its time when Nike launched this shoe. The Nike Shox BB4 it's the basektball version, but it looks like the materials are different in the shox technology at the heel; more rigid compared to the R4.

I actually have several styles of Timberland's boots and Hiking shoes and im impressed by the quality of the construction. But i dont see good quality lately on these running shoes "the best brands) you usually cut. And they cost way too much of what are they giving.

I bought and returned these because 1) while they were actually quite functional for damping heel strikes, helping my back condition greatly (and I am considering buying another pair for back flare ups), 2) the main flaw is how far back the air unit hangs which just over-leverages the ankle and hence shin muscles, especially if walking downhill. The front of the shoe and transition to it could be better but those are nowhere near the problem of basic ankle geometry. It’s a 10 in concept and I hope they improve on it. Great vid!!👏👏

I would love to see this man do a review on the adidas forum, i've spent my entire life wearing nikes and bought the forum 84 highs because they looked cool and also because it was the shoe that made MJ almost sign with adidas, so i was curious about, and i was expecting it to be super uncomfortable because its a shoe that was design in the early 80s, and also because its a different technology than the AJ1 (even though the first jays were a poor man's version of this shoe), but i was surprised by how comfortable they are, the ankle suport is amazing, the shoe doesnt cramp my foot, but it also doesnt leave my foot loose like the first Jordan, and i feel like i cant actually hoop on them

When I saw this come out I really wanted to buy it. Upon wearing it in the store for fitting before buying I was really disappointed about the comfort. It is really unstable as well. Everything he said about this shoe is the truth. No sugar coating whatsoever. That's what I felt when I tried this. I ended up not buying this. Hoping for the 2022 airmax to be much better looking and much more comfortable.

there was an article last year on a distance runner having their time cut down by some big name manufacturer's new tech in shoes; concept is energy return. i am not sure if i remember correctly but i think there was basically a spring built into it which might suck for your bandsaw. seeing some of that broken down would also be different as i think a number of these things are normally ultralight so it's like a knitted sock upper with all the technology in the sole.

There's a really weird lag in time between new tech being introduced and professional regulating bodies realizing that a tiny fraction of those new introductions are actually having an impact that needs to be curbed somehow. This is due in part by the business of advertising new product innovations (for clout) which largely don't make an impact, as well as the very blurry distinction between a product improvement and an unfair advantage in sport.
