  • The filmography of legendary screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière is enough to boggle the mind, from his work with Luis Buñuel (The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie) and Jean-Luc Godard (Every Man for Himself) to Louis Malle (May Fools) and Abbas Kiarostami (Certified Copy), to name just a few of his many provocative and multilayered collaborations. This year’s New York Film Festival featured not one but two films co-written by Carrière: Louis Garrel’s A Faithful Man and the closing night selection, Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate. With Warby Parker, we are thrilled to present a conversation with Schnabel and the 87-year-old Carrière about the creation of this extraordinary take on the last days of Vincent Van Gogh.
The 17-day New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent. Since 1963, NYFF has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center. In addition to the Main Slate official selections, the festival includes newly restored classics, special events, filmmaker talks, panel discussions, the avant-garde showcase Projections, and much more.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center is devoted to supporting the art and elevating the craft of cinema. The only branch of the world-renowned arts complex Lincoln Center to shine a light on the everlasting yet evolving importance of the moving image, this nonprofit organization was founded in 1969 to celebrate American and international film. Via year-round programming and discussions; its annual New York Film Festival; and its publications, including Film Comment, the U.S.’s premier magazine about films and film culture, the Film Society endeavors to make the discussion and appreciation of cinema accessible to a broader audience, as well as to ensure that it will remain an essential art form for years to come.

Thank You // Merci Bien. Asked these Heroes The Last Question... Julian Schnabel and Jean-Claude gave me a Five Minute Answer which was Amazing. Especially knowing this Talk + Q&A was supposed to be finished already at that time... PS. Jean-Claude invited me to come and visit him in Paris, oops haha. What a ride this Festival was, thank you Film Society of Lincoln Center, see you next year! -Tommy
