Hi Reed I have the same detector, I've watched a lot of videos on the MXT and yours by far helped me more than any of the videos ...Thank-You much appreciated!! Keep em coming!
Fellow I talked to said the XLT is a great machine for all types of coin/jewelry/relic hunting. He said he even dropped his in fresh water twice and just dried it out a while and it went right back to working good. One of the best machines White's ever made was the EAGLE 2 SL. DFX is a good one also. MXT is good machine--Not sure if it is better than a XLT? My cousin does great with his MINELAB SE PRO--Those Explorer machines are great at coin hunting--weed out trash well also--really well!
I bought an older MXT to look for large pieces of gold deep and back up a GM 24K and the older whites goldmaster e series and to look for older silver coins along with the DFX. I put the 300 mm coil on the MXT from the DFX 300 and it turned the MXT into a beast on both deep and shallow targets in the back yard. I showed the MXT 300 to a newbi... along with a new Fisher F-19 and he gravitated to the MXT even though I tried to talk up the F-19 since it was brand new and since it is a 19 kHz proven gold finder. Once I have the ground balanced I set it in lock and run it and then re-balance every so often. If I am looking for a spot to set up a drywasher, then I l just leave it in tracking mode. When and where the MXT is gona blow up in hotter ground in places like Colorado... I don't know, but I can swap to the DD's and break out the TDI SL when the ground gets to hot. The frequency is on the low end for a gold machine unless the gold is large then it's a perfect match. The discrimination dial is used over targets to help guess what they might be by turning the dial up and down over the target... the problem being we risk passing over a digable target if we aren't careful... and if we don't try to discriminate and just crazy dig everything... we end up wasting alot of search time digging up junk targets.
The MXT was my very first "real" detector years ago. I moved into a DFX which was the detector that taught me all the basics. Been using Minelabs now for years, mainly the Explorers, Sovereigns and now I have a CTX 3030 on the way. Whatever you swing best of luck to everyone!
AgileMjolnir.... Larry at Big Valley just informed me that you ordered the CTX 3030 in spite of the fact you have an E-Trac.... the 3030 is water resistant like the Garrett AT Pro/Gold but performance wise, its nothing but an E-Trac with Lipstick.... this video is not about the NON-American Minelabs..... its about one the overall BEST VLF Detector on the market. Greg at www.transbaymetaldetectors.com Call me sometime, I'd love to find out where you ordered your 3030 from.
Best detector ever made i own 2 MTX . The best out there ive dug up cans 2 feet down . 6.3 gram gold nugget at 42 VDI , it was 3" deep. I also own a Gold bug 2, and a Garret AT pro but they just sit in my room.
MXT's are great,...... whites sold DVD's that showed you how to use their detectors. They had specialty coils. Many times I found stuff 57 inches deep. It even showed you where to dig black sand,.... I don't think any other detector does that,......it tracks the GND.
The Goldmaster e series gives both a number for ground type and also has a number for ground strength. For me this is a must have feature for making detector and coil selection choices and finding black sand ahead of setting up a drywasher. A large magnet on a stick also does a good job for locating black sand and black sand accumulations. The Deus II has the same feature (giving both numbers), the Gold Bug Pro tracks the ground and gives mineral strength in a series of bars on a graph. Halving both bars and a number would be better.
I bought a new MXT several years back and got the urge to trade it for a cz 6(because I was familiar with cz5 I used to own)bad mistake---the MXT was a better machine in trash and on the beach it found the crap out of change folks lost--wish I'd kept it. I've owned over 30 detectors over the years and write articles for LOST TREASURE magazine from time to time. Detecting is a very good hobby. Been at it 29 years on and off and still love it.
Hello Reed! I love using my old 'lunchbox' Apollo Whites mineral metal detector with it's white-color 4B 8" coil. It's not deep (maybe 7" +/-) but I love the transmit/receive sound of these old detectors. It sounds like the old single-engine planes when it goes over a target. NO discrimination but it will null out nails and other small rusty pieces of iron. If it's a solid target, it will give a nice solid, definite sound. AND I like also, the fact that these old T/Rs were non-motion. Makes pinpointing effortless with no need for a pinpoint mode whatsoever. It's already part of the search mode. Take care and maybe I'll meet you out there someday. Greg.
hey just saw this video , and i can say its the best i have seen on youtube, even the whites video pails in comparison great job guy, hope to see more detecting vids from you as i have subscribed , i also run the whites mxt , and i even piced up a tip from u . funny and i have been detecting for 7 years. thanks!
Yea, I've been doing it like this since way back. It used to make a big difference in the background level on the old Goldmaster Vsat so I've been doing it ever since on every detector I have.
I've had a few detectors but I've stuck with Whites and Minelab for years. I sure enjoy detecting everything and anything :) I've only beach detected that one time so far but it has a bright future for me, hehe.
+Deirdra Doan Hi Deirdra :) Karen and I just got home today :) We worked our way down the coast and left Harris Beach, Or. yesterday :) It was great to meet you also.
Really enjoyed them and need more your my new drug for MXT Vids. ,Love my new machine AKA the Dark Knight ,but got to wait for spring ,aaaah.Merry Christmas Reed .
thanks, if your ever near bakersfield let me know maybe get a chance to swing a detector. and i totaly dig the empire mine as well. great preservation, and the grounds are cool too. wish i could still be up in sacramento like i was before but its under 300 miles away from me now. loved the green mountains. now i need to get use to the desert region.
Yea for gold the GMT or Gold Bug Pro work great. I had a GMT for years but I just didn't use it enough to keep it. A friend has the GPX5000 that he lets me use when needed but I really do enjoy the relic and coin shooting ease with the MXT :)
What's funny is that here you are, another local, you've been on here for 5+ years, & finally we meet after all this time :), I just watched a couple of your videos, The Empire is one of my favorite spots :)
Good vid however, the MXT WILL and DOES find gold. There are a few vids on YT that demonstrates this, Try these proven settings when hingting nuggets: Relic Mode: disc 2, faint threshold tone, trigger forward and sensitivity anywhere from pre-set to as high as 3 depending on soil. OR "Put the MXT in Relic Mode and set the disc control at 1.5 - 2. Crank the Gain, and run in Ground TRAC mode for a minute, then switch to Lock ..my two cents
Great channel...Compliments!!!!Thanks for the Sub.I'm quit new to the game(Just over a year) Working with a humble ( But Great!!!!) White's Coinmaster Pro...I'm just fortunate to life on ancient ground !!!! Good Luck...Roy
From what I've seen it looks like a good unit. Rotapan has been around for years but I have never seen the Reaper itself in action. I will add it to the list as I thought about this last year. It looks like a very good product for final classification though I couldn't come up with the cost on it for comparison to say a UHF table which goes for around $5000 last time we looked at them. It would be good to compare it to a Gold Screw probably but I will need to compare cost as well :)
I just sold a WHITE'S 6000 SL PRO for a cousin and I thought it was hard to GB and use right---he had given it to me and I GAVE IT BACK. then I was allowed to sell it and keep half the profit. So I did. I liked the MXT a lot better--should have kept the MXT I traded for cz6 a few years ago. MXT is way easier to use than the earlier models of White's like SL PRO and the earlier 6000 D Series 2 (I owned one of those too) MXT is good at dry sand beach hunting for coins/jewelry--real good.
I have the MXT and works great for finding gold. Do you really want to dig for specks? First time I used it for nugget hunting, I found a little piece about the same size as a #9 sized shot. I wish I had this when I was a kid.
I've been detecting for years and I didn't buy the MXT for gold. I have 3 other detectors :) My main page has some pics of some gold that I found detecting :)
I found a 6.3 gram nugget in Folsom CA with my Whites MXT , they were building homes and I decided to hit up the area and BAM. My very first nugget . Now I own 2 MXT found one for $100 .
Hello Reed, Im considering purchasing the MXT ALL PRO, or the MX Sport. I will be using it primarily at the beach. With your expertise i was wondering what one you would buy? Please help thanks!
That's a good question and right now I would get the Surf Master Pro because I will hunt waist deep in some parts of the oceans but I asked the question for us both here - www.treasurenet.com/forums/metal-detecting/520851-best-beach-underwater-detectors.html#post5179781 so let's both find out from the pro's :)
He said get a gold unit for gold,.. then he's telling you how to use it prospecting? It is a gold machine,.. it is a coin and jewelry machine and it is a relic machine. I find shit 58 inch's deep,..... the length of the shovel. Read the manual,... its the perfect partner for your gold pan or sluice,.. Because the MXT tells you where black sand is with the GND= numbers. When you find the black sand you find the gold. And it finds little tint pieces of buckshot too.
I GUESS I BOUGHT A PIECE OF JUNK...no wonder everyone beats the crap out of me...the lil girl next door with a Bounty Hunter...a BOUNTY HUNTER...sheeesh...
It is slower then at lot of the high end machines out there but it's a combo machine for gold/coins/ and artifacts. Any gold machine like the gmt will be a lot faster. The hot foot is a good coil but I'm not sure if they sell it anymore. I like your comment because I hadn't really thought about that aspect of it before :)
Going to try mine for the very first time this weekend. Your video was very helpful, thank you.

Mxt all pro here. Wouldn't trade it for anything. It's a monster!

The Book is "ZIP ZIP" By Larry Sallee ( i think the last name is spelled right. It has been many many years since i had that book.)

Sir you have the best machine in the market
I have a Garrett AT PRO, absolutely love it!! Fantastic machine and very user friendly!!!
Great machine I had an xlt also had fishers cz’s. Now I have a Minelab nox 800.
Broken the coil ears yet?
Got one used 3 weeks back. Works great. Found. My oldest coin. 1890 ih
Yea, I've been doing it like this since way back. It used to make a big difference in the background level on the old Goldmaster Vsat so I've been doing it ever since on every detector I have.

Thanks Roy :) I do enjoy all of the Whites detectors that I've ever owned :) They always pay for themselves time & time again.

never run the mxt in coin and jewlery. Relic all the way
What benefit does this give? And thanks for the info
Does it measure inches only or feet as well ?
Inches , if the metal is big enough it can pick it up at 2 ft
Interested on what unit I have , mine says MXT 300 mm , I believe it's about 5-6 years old , lady at whites said only mm is on pin pointers !
Hello Reed. The 950 coil designation means the size of your coil; 9.5" wide coil.
Thanks :)
I just sold a WHITE'S 6000 SL PRO for a cousin and I thought it was hard to GB and use right---he had given it to me and I GAVE IT BACK. then I was allowed to sell it and keep half the profit. So I did. Where do you change the batteries on this..mine has sat for years and is now dead, and I need to change the batteries
The battery pack is under the cover on the back. You may need to hit it with some wd40 if it's been sitting for a while.
I want 3 separate detectors in the Whites series...My favorite whites XLT e series
HAHA, I had an old 5000D back in the 80s with the old push button retune, those were the days.
Whites electronics inc

peace on you how does it cost redwan
I've heard that the XLT whoops both the MXT and the MXT Pro. Doesn't it?
Yep, user friendly can't be beat :)
how much did that cost when new
oops, that would be "when hunting nuggets" as opposed to hingting nuggets
how to get sand out if my coil
He said get a gold unit for gold,.. then he's telling you how to use it prospecting?
It is a gold machine,.. it is a coin and jewelry machine and it is a relic machine.

Right .is this one better than the mxt 300?
A fellow I talked to was using a XLT
I like the sound of the Whites MXT series detectors. Sounds so professional compared to those whiney annoying Tesoros.
Mine won't turn on. Any ideas?
Is there a broken battery post in the battery casing ?
I GUESS I BOUGHT A PIECE OF JUNK...no wonder everyone beats the crap out of me...the lil girl next door with a Bounty Hunter...a BOUNTY HUNTER...sheeesh...
