hello friends ~ I got so many questions on how to actually search for an apartment in nyc & if I had any tips and tricks so I made a separate video: ruclips.net/video/-2y_ldNwZPU/видео.html thank you all for the love and support 🫶
Hey Julia! I'm a real estate agent in NYS and I'm relatively new to being an agent. I know the fee sucks but we do jump through loops and hoops to get our licenses and to get hired by a broker to join their agency on top of all of that. And as you know NYC is really expensive to live in and sometimes it's hard to get ahead as an agent. Most agents quit within their first year of being in business. 😭 This should shine a little more light on things and give people an idea of how hard this gig can be. With that said, I've been successful enough to actually make it in the business as a real estate investor/home remodeler.🙌So now I own my home outright and have transitioned into owning my own brokerage with my wife and becoming a real estate agent full-time. My goal is to help as many people as possible to get to where I am going as fast as possible. If you think this might be interesting to your viewers then give me a thumbs up and share it with the world! You can find me on Instagram @xmrksthespot 🤙😄 Hope to be the one to help you on your next apartment renting or buying adventure. 💛✌️
Girl Zep cleaner for grout for bathroom and all purpose cleaner Zep for everything else and in one weekend that apartment will be soo good. I screamed when i head price. Dont ever leave, make it your home. U litteraly now have 2k for improvement of that apartment monthly!! What a dream
I literally screamed “WHAT?!” when I heard the rent for your new apartment. That is an absolute steal!! Congrats! Excited to see the move in/decorating vlogs 😊
Yeah honestly that would be a good price even in my city which is nothing compared to NYC! I think my jaw hit the floor. TOTALLY worth it, especially with the improvements they're making. Also I feel it must be an excellent place to live since the previous tenant stayed there for so long!
OMG, NEVER MOVE! I wonder how much they can raise your rent yearly or is it the same for your entire tenancy? For that price you would expect half that sq footage! And no laundry, and other negatives. When I lived in NYC my apartment was right on top of NY health and racquet. You can imagine trying to sleep with the noise and vibration from aerobics going on at 6 am (I was working nights)
I had exactly the same reaction! That rent in NYC is just unimaginable...with rent control she can stay there forever and just save up to make it nicer
Insaneee. I would sign up for that apt in a heartbeat. $1050 is cheaper than the average cost of a 1 bedroom apt in a lot of major cities. The fact that you were able to score that in NYC is impressive. Who cares if it’s old and dingy! You can spend the money you save on rent on decorating the heck out of it. You’re only young once! Happy for you!
In Canada, $1050 for a one-bedroom in any tiny shithole with no jobs, no culture, and no people is no longer a possibility. That she found this apartment in NYC is absolutely unreal to me.
@@johnlittle3430 truth! I live in northern Alberta and I pay almost $1300. It is a decent apartment, but there are way worse ones that cost more. There are so few jobs here, everyone is a redneck and it’s so expensive for everything
Congratulations! That price is a steal. Also, the fact that you are getting new appliances, a fresh coat of paint, and buffed floors is a great deal. You can always DIY the cabinets and countertops and install new fixings in the bathroom. That is amazing.
THIS. There are SOOOO many ways you can diy your rental apartment. You could buy laminate wood flooring; stick on floor tiles for the bathroom floors and walls, removable wallpaper. The only thing that would be hard to change is the appliances if they aren’t willing to upgrade them which I would ask for them to do up front.
ARE U KIDDING only a crazy person wouldn't sign ur apartment,it's a steal for sure!! I'm proud of u for making reasonable decision. You can always renovate or decorate it to make it homyy and I can't wait to see it!!💗
As a New Yorker who is most probably going to have to look for a new apartment soon, nothing infuriates me more than these absolutely absurd 15% brokers fees for brokers who do actually zero work for them. criminal.
I was shocked to see the actual apartment you got. When you said the rent price, it made sense. That is incredible for NYC. Hell it's almost impossible to get an apartment that price here in nowhere, Louisiana
girl!!! honestly you do you there's no need to care about what other ppl think + the price is amazing as compared to what you were willing to pay for!! you'll be saving so much money from paying rent and be able to use that money for more life experiences!
I think it's brilliant that you got the place you did for that price. I don't know how handy you are but I've seen some renter friendly RUclips videos that go over easy DIY tricks to get a renovated look. Congrats on your new home!
You got elevator, location, laundry, window light, storage, square footage and LOW RENT! I can't believe how low it is. In your build up I thought for sure it was going to be much higher. You did so well on this one. With the new kitchen appliances and floor/wall fixes (love the floor) it's going to look so good. And I KNOW you will interior decorate this into a beauty spot. Great choice. You must be so relieved to have the stress of the hunt over.
Finding an apartment that’s affordable and safe is so hard anywhere but NYC is just on a whole new level so trust me I know your pain but I’m happy you found a good deal! Can’t wait for this new chapter for you ❤
25:30 Good job, Julia! Your decision making shows wisdom. You demonstrated much patience and perseverance. (I’m actually glad you didn’t get the more expensive ones. 😊)
GIRLLLLL!! When I tell you I just yelled at my phone when I heard the price of your final apartment!!! YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD!!! That apartment size with an elevator and laundry!? SOLD!!! Go you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I really appreciate that you went with a place that wasn't your top pick but was financially helpful for you. I recently did the same thing and just moved in, and I've been feeling bad about it but this video really changed my perspective on my decision. I can't wait to see what you do with the place!
I’m a former New Yorker who moved back after a decade in June. I almost got an apt just like this one in a central neighborhood for $1150 but the Broker fee was 15k….and as a single Mom, I was going to pay it to secure an apartment here for many years. These don’t come around often I’m told so this is very lucky. Congrats! I’ve been paying 3k a month instead 😢but by some miracle just won the housing lottery for a 2 bd in Brooklyn [still expensive at $2500] but with a child good for our future needs and it has in unit laundry and small terrace. Manhattan real estate is tricky and your video shows the reality of what we are dealing with unless you find a unicorn which you were lucky enough to find.
Not what I was expecting but girl! That price is INSANE!! That’s cheaper than apartments in Houston!! Your bank account is going to be overjoyed with you. 😂 I love that you were able to find a place at such an amazing price in a wonderful location, and that they are going to update a few things for you. I know once you add the Julia touch it will be a beautiful space to call your own. People will always have opinions no matter what. You could cure cancer and people would still complain. You do you and don’t listen to the haters. Thank you for your transparency and sharing your life with us. Looking forward to seeing your new space come together! 😀
I think you absolutely made the right choice. You're going to have so much fun renovating and decorating and you can afford it! Jaw-dropping steal. In Manhattan!!! Congrats!
Dude, that broker’s fee is criminal! But you got an absolute STEAL! Also, as an old lady…let me tell you, how anyone feels about how you spend YOUR money is not your business. You’re paying not necessarily just for the apartment, but to live in an exciting, urban location. Haters are gonna hate. Congratulations!
Honestly that's a steal.. the paint and polish on the floor will make it nicer, plus they're giving you new appliances. With the money you save, you could definitely fix up the bathroom, especially if you see yourself living there for more than a year. I think it's a great opportunity to make it your own! And there's so much space!! I would have done the exact same thing, especially if it was in a good location/neighborhood.
A bargain is a bargain, girl.... And all that extra that you save can go towards renos and diys which if the landlord is OK with you updating, that works too... Congrats 🎉🎉
I am not finished watching, but I must say...your budget it YOUR BUDGET- don't let people make you feel any kind of way about it. IDK- I am just saying- it's not like you set the prices out there. I want you to be proud that you can make your dream of living in NYC without a roommate- because I certainly am (and I don't even know you IRL, haha!)
I love the older/vintage character this apartment has! It’s way better than most of the ones you saw IMO, at 1/3 the price! It has so much potential and I slayed out really well. Obsessed with the bathroom tile and the built-in bookshelves by the kitchen!!!!
Agreed, the decor style has to match the bones of the apartment. It might look even more wonky if you use cheap diy stuff to try to get a modern look, but if you respect the apartment’s style you can make it look really good!!
Girl I am so happy for you! You cannot beat that price! And you can always clean a place up, that’s not a big deal. You can upgrade the cabinets and add nice handles to the cabinets. It’s fine. I love it! You’ll be saving money so you can invest in your place. You had better stay there forever! I felt so bad when you said you cried over that one apartment. See, there is always something better waiting for you. 💖✨
Congratulations!! So happy for you, and glad you don't have to deal with the stress of apartment hunting anymore! You are going to make the new place look absolutely stunning and cozy, and I can't wait to see it once you're all moved in and decorated! I love how transparent you are about the whole process and the pricing. It's been a while since I've apartment hunted (in Chicago, not NYC), so it's really interesting to see the reality of it.
Congratulations on finding your apt! Also a NYer and yes that is a steal! There is a lot DIY tools, etc that you can use to make your place feel more comfortable. Glad to hear they are making some adjustments to the apt to update it for you. Looking forward to seeing the moving and home update content!
The fact that you’re able to provide for yourself and pay your own rent in that crazy city while it’s soooo expensive, is something to be so unbelievably proud of!! ❤ I hear ya… Unfortunately in today’s society most of us have to pay an arm and a leg towards rent, while wishing we could be saving it for our own future home, or putting it towards a monthly payment on our own mortgage….😅 but those of us who want it bad enough and are willing to work hard enough for it, we’ll find a way, and get there gurl! I feel like your well on you way ❤🙌🏼😎
This was a complete roller coaster!!!!! I can’t believe what people are going through in New York City. I’m really happy you found an affordable place and can see the potential in it. Thank u for your transparency. Wishing u the best.
I think you can definitely spruce up the place. With a deep clean, and nice furniture and decor, you can easily transform it! And the quirks of the space can be charming depending on how you decorate.
Congratulations Julia! The apartment with a view of the Empire State Building was definitely my favourite but the one you chose makes SO much sense! You'll be saving a lot on rent and could potentially put that into redoing your bathroom and kitchen by yourself over time. I don't know much about the NYC landscape but living in Manhattan sounds very exciting! Looking forward to see your moving in and setting up vlogs ✨♥️
Thats an amazing deal! Congrats and thanks for sharing!!! I just moved to lux rent stabilized 1 bed apartment for $1700 in NYC too. I wish more people had access to affordable housing cause pricing is getting crazy.
Julia, when you mentioned the price, I so understood your choice. I would have taken it too at that rent. You now have a lot of extra money to do some renovations, if you wish. Thanks for filming this video and for being so transparent. I love seeing what rents are in other parts of the country. I live in a large city on the West Coast and rents are comparable to NYC--but the downside is we don't have rent control. Congratulations.
I feel like the savings is worth it since you can do renovations. I can see why you grabbed it and you can really make it your own over time. Good luck!
I literally had to stop the video I was so shook. Damn girl !! My friend pays 1200 for a bedroom in Harlem! So glad you got it and I trust that you can fix it up and make it your own. You can probably also get a tool kit and screw in some of the cabinets so it's a bit more aligned. It looks like my last year of college apartment which we turned into a home so I trust that you can do it too
There’s no doubt in my mind that it will be beautiful once you’re done renovating and decorating!!!!! I think it’s a great choice…dingy can be changed but location and rent can’t!!! I’m looking forward to more apartment videos!!!!!
Honestly that apartment is beautiful, the bathroom might be outdated but you can decorate it with plants and do a big cleaning. The floors in the main area is SO beautiful, that type of wood for parquet is so stunning! I can't wait to see how you decorate x
My last apartment in Chicago was in an older building with slanted floors, but my husband and I LOVED living there for all the same reasons you listed for signing your new apartment. Cheaper rent = being able to save more or spend more on nicer furniture and decor to take to your next place. Excited to see future vlogs in the new place!!
This wasn’t what I was expecting, but I think it was a good choice for the savings alone. It’s not horrible. I always tell my kids with a keen eye, anyone can make a cardboard box look nice. It’s not forever, it’s for now. Maybe you could afford to enlarge the window between the kitchen and living room area, to make your kitchen feel more spacious. My favorite was the one before this last one, but I might have chosen this one, too. Enjoy your new space. 👍🏻
I think you got a great deal and for that price you could afford a few updates if you want to do them on maybe the kitchen cabinets or something like that or you might decide to do some temporary fixes like removable wall paper on the cabinets. Anyway, I would happily take the apartment you got and make it mine, which you will! Congratulations Julia!! I'm happy for you. 😊
Honestly, I wouldn't have guessed this price at all. I even gasped a bit because right now, finding a price like this with the current state of affairs (inflation etc) is amazing! You did great, you picked an option that will allow you to save more money and live in a neighborhood that you enjoy. I live in a studio myself in NYC and pay a few hundreds more! After cleaning properly, and putting your own touch, it will look great! I can't wait to see how you decorate it. Congratulations😊
I gasped when I heard the rent on the last unit. At that price, it would make sense to renovate it yourself and stay forever. I'm really happy for you.
The way my mouth DROPPED! I'm moving to NYC next month and this is getting me so giddy and excited! I think your apartment is super cute and can definitely be cozied up! 😍
Julia....You can paint, bleach and deep clean the place....Make it your own. You could even replace the ugly brown stove with a new one. Good for you. I watched your last apt. hunt. Is it a one year lease? A smart move. As long as it is a safe place. From a 58 yr old woman in Florida. Happy for you. 🍀
A 5,000 brokers fee is really only 416 ish dollars per month for a year which would bring your rent still below 2,000 for NYC!!! Amazing! What a fantastic deal and situation! And…new appliances! It must be a wonderful spot if someone stayed for 50 years! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see how you fix it up!
Thank you for being transparent!!!! That’s what makes me love your videos! There is nothing more frustrating when people are not honest about money. Congratulations on your new home ❤
O.M.G! the plot twist of this episode is just insane. blew me off totally! from the too many heartaches and disappointments (Apt5💔 mostly) to like like.... oh show-me-already level of excitement.. and like eh? OMG! good steal indeed. you made all that crazy twists and turns of emotions in just a 25-minute video! that being old, just opened up so much decorating and interior designing content which makes me so excited about. goodjob Julia! I'm patiently waiting! hurry pls!
That’s a steal!!! You can always DIY your space to your liking.. Congratulations on your new place, I just came across your vlogs this is actually the first vlog I’m truly impressed with your rational thinking, transparency I will be subscribing 😀 thanks for sharing
Not judging at all - apartment hunting is super stressful. The fact that they’re updating appliances & doing some improvements too for the price, is really great. All that matters is YOU like it. Thanks for sharing!
I understand the choice maybe you can renovate the bathroom with the money you are saving. Potential is there 😊 Looking forward to seeing you furnish this place 😊
Going to echo the others and say you did a great job!! 🎉🎉🎉 definitely consider using the money you’d otherwise pay on rent for the other places on getting a deep clean - makes a whole world of difference, especially with that bathroom. Can’t wait to see how you deck the place out! Thank you for being transparent; you don’t owe anybody any explanation or reason. It was SUCH HARD WORK finding a place!!
I just wanted to say you did a really nice job with this video. Everything flowed, the footage of the apartments you got was good, your editing was well paced and well executed. I’m headed to watch more of yours!
Ok the final apartment is such a bargain - definitely be proud of that and try to tune out the haters. Even with splitting the broker's fee across 12 months of rent that is quite the deal for a good building in Manhattan and to live alone nonetheless. Sending positive vibes for the move and I hope the updates they make add a little extra incentive for choosing the space.
Great you finally found a place with light. I like apartments with a lot of windows too for me and my plants. Can't wait to see the final look after the renovations!
One thing I learnt from your apartment search is, delay is not denial... you got turned down a lot, you kept your faith up and in the end you got a good thing.
Your decision is such a smart and forward thinking one!! You can easily cover the kitchen counters with stick and peel to spruce it up and for that price ??? WOW!!!! Congratulations and I hope this new home is full of joy ❤
congrats on your new place and that crazy good deal!! thanks for always being transparent with budgets, prices, etc. i live in dc, and while the market isn’t as nuts as nyc, i still feel your pain. can’t wait for you to get cozy and settled
You were so smart to take this apt because you can make it very cozy and you can live there and actually have enough money to enjoy your life. There is no point in living in NYC if you can’t afford to enjoy the city itself. You made out like a bandit and can easily renovate the bathroom to make it livable. If you stay for 2 years or more you will even be able to travel and keep it while you travel. You’re parents raised you right!!! Go girl!!
Congratulations!! That is awesome!! I can just imagine 10 years later and you just keep renewing... still paying less than $1500. lol I can wait to see more moving vlogs!
I would have signed that too! Don’t feel bad about it. That’s a steal for NYC especially nowadays. Cleaning and decorating will help a lot. And now you have the budget to get nice furniture for it
I am amazed that you were able to find an apartment for the price you did. Good for you! Looking on the bright side, now you can put all your decorating skills to work! (You know you've got them!). Have fun!
You should be proud, girl. 🎉 You can make it wonderful! Also the first video I’ve seen where someone actually lists the paperwork you need instead of just saying, “have your paperwork ready”. Very helpful.
So happy you found a place Julia!! I think you will make it a perfect home for yourself😍 And also, what a bargin?! Congrats! And cant wait to see what you will do with it😊😊
No seriously that’s an absolute steal. But damn the apartment is so 1970s!!! I feel like it’s a pro and a con, I think adding the new appliances and polishing the floors will make it look amazing. Just really lean into those warm tones and you are golden! Also I love the parquet flooring, so cool!!!
im extremely proud of you! regardless of what anyone says you did an amazing job on finding such a steal!! Congrats on ending your search, im sure you can definitely make that space into a space that you'll love.
Congrats on the apartment!! With the rent money you're saving, you can def dedicate some funds to renovations and deep cleaning (esp in the kitchen/bathroom, gotta make sure there's no mold). Also, no judgments on rent prices ever-NYC is $$$ but people pay to live here for a reason lol
I think this was a super smart choice!!!l you can fix it up over time and literally stay here for years!!! At that price in NYC you could actually save all your money for your future. I can't wait to see your future videos making this place home! This was the best NYC apt hunt video I've seen to date!
Congratulations Julia! Good for you on making such a very smart choice! You are going to save so much money, decorating is going to be so much fun. I’m so happy for you!
Julia, I really enjoy your videos, I'm glad you finally find an apartment, and so cheap. The kitchen was the only bad area, but they are going to fix it, so, I think it is a good deal, and also the apartment has many possibilities depending on how you decorate it, it will surely look great!😊💖
Which unit was my favorite? The $1050 rent!!! WOOO HOOO!! You lucked out and that made me very happy that you scored that sweet deal after being tunred down!! Plus they're sprucing it up and putting in new appliances? Wow, win win all the way around!! Happy for you!
Julia! Oh Em Geeeee!! Yasss girl! I'm not mad at you! So glad you found a spot #1 and the price you can't beat it!! I'm sure you can find someone on task rabbit very affordably, to help with jujing(I'm pretty sure that's not how you spell that 🤷🏾♀️) up that bathroom. I can't wait to see you work your magic on that space and make it YOU! Congratulations!!
Hi Julia, You have chosen very well, very wise choice!! Am glad for you that you found this gem, you will make it your new home and am sure you'll 'update' the kitchen to your liking, you might be in that apartment for several years to come 😊 Am really happy for you and thank you for sharing your apartment hunt with us, happy moving and looking forward to see you living there and decorating it with your own lovely style and furniture, it will look good, for sure. 🤗🌼
The number one thing on your list was good lighting and you ended up with north facing windows! I didn't think you would compromise on that so I hope you don't regret it, at least it will feel cooler in the summer. North facing light is actually perfect for artists as it doesn't change throughout the day.
Congrats on the new apartment! What a steal! I think you made a great decision and hopefully you won’t notice the crud after a couple months. I live in a great old house and some things you just can’t fix (I’m looking at you one bathroom, giant radiators and window A/C units in the summer), but we love the location of our home and it’s very functional and well within our means!
I love videos like these! So helpful, and well done on finally finding somewhere you can work with! I can truly dreading finding out how impossible it’s going to be for me moving from the UK on a brand new job contract, no US credit history, and no tax returns 🙃
My favorite unit is the one you picked. There was a reason why you picked it and that is why it’s the best and the favorite of the bunch. One door closes, five more open!
OMMMG your rent is amazing you're gonna be saving soo much, I thought it was gonna be a high price but it was so affordable yet an amazing place to live in !!!

Yes when she mentioned the broker fee she paid I cringed
Should just be illegal honestly 🥱

I think you absolutely made the right choice. You're going to have so much fun renovating and decorating and you can afford it! Jaw-dropping steal. In Manhattan!!! Congrats!
Dude, that broker’s fee is criminal! But you got an absolute STEAL! Also, as an old lady…let me tell you, how anyone feels about how you spend YOUR money is not your business. You’re paying not necessarily just for the apartment, but to live in an exciting, urban location. Haters are gonna hate. Congratulations!
If the last person was happy enough to live there for 50 years then the energy there is good. That's a good sign.
*it’s layer out ! Plz don’t change too much of the retro features!! 🥰
I hear ya… Unfortunately in today’s society most of us have to pay an arm and a leg towards rent, while wishing we could be saving it for our own future home, or putting it towards a monthly payment on our own mortgage….😅
but those of us who want it bad enough and are willing to work hard enough for it, we’ll find a way, and get there gurl! I feel like your well on you way ❤🙌🏼😎
YES!!! YOUR APARTMENT IS DEFINITELY A STEAL! Congratulations Julia and I can't wait to see you get cozy in your new apartment!
It looks like my last year of college apartment which we turned into a home so I trust that you can do it too
$1,050 is a super steal in New York! That’s great!
Your hair looks SOOO good in this video! And thank you for such an informative and fun video! Congrats on the move!!!
girl u shoulda seen the way my jaw DROPPED when u revealed ur rent bc 🤯🤯 super happy that you secured a new place!!
Also, I subscribed so I could see what you do with it over time.
I live in the countryside of the Netherlands myself. Living in a city is not my thing. But I love watching your city life experiences!!
Honestly I am just so happy and wanna applaud you for being so transparent with everything and just willing to share with us
O.M.G! the plot twist of this episode is just insane. blew me off totally! from the too many heartaches and disappointments (Apt5💔 mostly) to like like.... oh show-me-already level of excitement.. and like eh? OMG! good steal indeed. you made all that crazy twists and turns of emotions in just a 25-minute video!
that being old, just opened up so much decorating and interior designing content which makes me so excited about. goodjob Julia!
OMG JULIA! That’s a steal! There’s so much potencial for decor and diy content 🤍congratsss
girl I am so happy for you, no matter the judgements you did a great job at finding an apartment that suits YOU 🎉
I just wanted to say you did a really nice job with this video. Everything flowed, the footage of the apartments you got was good, your editing was well paced and well executed. I’m headed to watch more of yours!
I was SHOCKED at that price!!! Amazing job Julia!
I think you will have fun updating the kitchen, and the new appliances provided by building management will make all the difference. Good shopping!
Great you finally found a place with light. I like apartments with a lot of windows too for me and my plants. Can't wait to see the final look after the renovations!
There definitely was a bit of high expectation but I can definitely see the potential in the apartment and can’t wait to see more videos to come!!🫶🏽
One thing I learnt from your apartment search is, delay is not denial... you got turned down a lot, you kept your faith up and in the end you got a good thing.
This reminds me that I found your channel when you uploaded the first NYC apartment hunting. 🗽✨😀
I can just imagine 10 years later and you just keep renewing... still paying less than $1500. lol
I can wait to see more moving vlogs!
For fifty years
Excited to see how you'll decorate your new space!
I would have signed that too! Don’t feel bad about it. That’s a steal for NYC especially nowadays. Cleaning and decorating will help a lot. And now you have the budget to get nice furniture for it
The price is definitely great! The places needs a lot of work, but the amount of money saved, speaks for itself! Congratulations and smart pick.
I just watched this again, so I know how much better it looks now. What a great find! I completely get why you took it.
I think this was a super smart choice!!!l you can fix it up over time and literally stay here for years!!! At that price in NYC you could actually save all your money for your future. I can't wait to see your future videos making this place home! This was the best NYC apt hunt video I've seen to date!
Good for you, Julia! Worth having to clean, having to maybe cover the cabinets with contact paper, etc. what a great deal.
I literally discovered your channel today and am already obsessed!!Perfect timing for a new video 💜
Girl, you're an ace for scoring this deal broker fees and all! Glad they're upgrading it. Very good!
These videos make me so excited to find my own apartment in the future. Thank you Julia!
Congratulations on the apartment! Amazing price and truly amazing bones in NYC! So excited to see the progress!
WHAT. I cheered when you announced the price! You go, so happy for you!
OMMMG your rent is amazing you're gonna be saving soo much, I thought it was gonna be a high price but it was so affordable yet an amazing place to live in !!!
