I personally would take that flywheel and floater plate to a local automotive machine shop and get them ground. They will grind any high places off. That way the entire surface of the clutch disk is gripping. It also makes the clutch engagements a lot smoother.

Personally, I would not put it back together without a new rear seal. While I totally agree that the newer parts' quality lacks a lot to be desired, it still would be better than one that you know for a fact has hundreds of hours on it. Just my opinion and it's all you get for free nowadays.

Besides, if you have the time, the will power and most of the all the shop manual, you will save yourself a ton of money. There used to be an Ford implement dealership in our area back in the early 70's and they had a sign on the wall quoting hourly shop rates: $40 an hour if you watch - $50 if you talk - $100 if you help!! Never forget that sign!! As a matter of fact, whenever I was at the dealership, I don't recall seeing anyone watching, talking or helping!! MUST HAVE READ THE SIGN! Take care of that hand my friend. Congrats on getting her split and apart. Yes, working by yourself and waiting for a hand is an extremely frustrating situation.

It's tough going trying to rip a tractor on your own like that... especially a complicated split like that. We're kinda lucky over here in having a few mechanics who will come to you and help out with repairs like this. We're usually just waiting a day or so and when he's finished he moves on to the next project. You just pay for his time and don't have to make work for him. There's a few floating about our area with mobile workshops. I don't know if you've got similar service like that... tax deductible too.

Hey Duffy. I had a JD 5020 & did the pto shaft shaft seals in the bell housing, never doing any work with the tractor it. I didn't realize the clutch slipped because them pressure plate springs where weak, it was double sprigged. Anyway my pressure plate had holes in it for you to fit 3 or4 1/4 unc treaded bar & nuts to get the pressure plate bolts of safely. I cant see holes on yours. so more than likely you are going to need some threaded bar same size as your bolts say if you got 8 bolts holding your pressure plate you need 4 to do it equally, to pull it together or you aint going to get the bolts in. Check your book again to see if it say anything. Nice work though, your giving it ago. Regards from the UK.

Doesn't "the farm" understand getting this tractor fixed is paramount to getting "the farm's" land prepped? I don't understand that at all. Speaking of foreign parts get this. I am working on a 1940 B Deere tractor transmission. All the bearings have to be replaced. All the original ones were Timken made in the USA. All the replacement ones came from Japan and Germany both of which we fought in WWII. Talk about irony. I searched for weeks trying to find bearings. Most came from Deere via a foreign country. So much for originality. Just have to use what you can find now in this global economy we now live in... I would think about all the help you didn't get the next time "the farm" needs help too...
